First off James smokes a lot. Easily over a pack of cigarettes a day and sometimes weed to keep him calm

His main two vices are cocaine and alcohol

Never intended to get into things this deep but it’s too late to look back

It was bound to happen though. His dad would hit him a lot and in return James fell into a crowd that said they could make him feel better

Didn’t get a job until he was 19

No college education and barely passed high school because he skipped out a lot

Sometimes misses his job at the docks but doesn’t miss the hard labor

Due to the work accident he has very little use in his left hand. It was his dominant hand and he had to learn to write with his right hand and thus has poor penmanship 

Was only in his 20s when he overdosed

He was briefly clean when he met Narissa and he fell in love fast but he felt into old habits and ended up doing drugs

To his surprise she stayed with him and they ended up married.

Peter Pan fucked his wife and he divorced her

He hates kids

He hates disloyal people

He doesn’t believe in cheating on your partner despite how scummy he is

He may be loyal to those close to him but he often finds loopholes to get out of things. So technically it’s okay, right?

Is really only a successful shop owner because of the money he gets from smuggling in drugs

Doesn’t really know if he would settle down again or just keep relationships more casual but he often finds himself lonely 

Lives in a houseboat at the docks which means his shop is nearby

Named his shop after his boat. The boat is Jolly Roger and the shop is Jolly Roger Fishing Supplies

He actually does quite enjoy fishing and does it frequently.

Another hobby is reading. It takes him a while to actually finish a book but it’s rewarding

Wears a lot of black and dark clothing. Mostly jeans and decent yet wrinkled tops and a leather jacket. Does quite love sweaters though

“Were you going to say Peter? Oh, mister Hook, you don’t have to worry about him. He hasn’t been around for a bit. Probably off adventuring with some new friends he cares about more or something,” she said sadly, with a shrug. “You think I’m annoying?” Wendy asked, frowning. It was bad enough that Tink had told her she once thought she was, and now he did, too? “No, I’m twenty-four, actually. The boys are a little younger than I am. Oh, I–you don’t have to say that. I can handle myself just fine, thank you very much. Like, maybe I had a tiiiiny bit too much tonight, but I am an adult, and I’m at least not going to go beat someone up or drunk text like Randy did. Did I mention him before? I think you might like him less than Peter.”

“I honestly don’t care. At all. I could not care any less than I do at this moment in time.” James let out a sigh that ended up turning into a groan. “I think you and all of your friends are annoying. Does that make you feel better? You’re not singled out. I do think you’re the mature one out of the lot of you though.” James glanced up at the bartender as if they would save him or something, but they simply shrugged and walked away. “Clearly.” When his drink arrives he is quick to start drinking it. “Nope. Don’t really care about Randy either. Sounds like he’s a real great guy though,” he said sarcastically. “Never met the guy so can’t say if I hate him or not. Probably don’t since he didn’t sleep with my wife, but you know. Minor details.”

Wendy had been going through a bit of a rough patch with herself, with the boys seeming to have grown up in their own ways. Tootles was happy with Tink, Nibs simply wanted to be alone all the time after his heartbreak, and Slightly was busy with work and who knew what else, it seemed. It felt like her position in their lives was changing, and it was starting to catch up with her. On top of that, she was stressed about writing her book, teaching, and writing articles, all while still being contacted by Randy. It was all of this balled up into one big breakdown that sent her to the bar, one too many glasses of wine in after Violet had finally gone home. Wendy had decided to stay to finish her drink, and it was mid-sip that she laid eyes on Mr. Hook. Why was it that she was always finding him when she was drinking?

“Oh, you again!” she exclaimed, sliding over a seat to sit beside the older man. “What do you know, we meet here again. Do you always come alone?” Wendy asked, tilting her head as she spoke. The words slipping out of her mouth indicated that she probably should’ve stopped a glass ago, but it was too late now. “I promise I wasn’t. I was here with my friend, Violet. Not one of the boys who you dislike so very much, even though I love them. They’re all growing up now, though, and it’s quite sad. Is this what being an empty nester feels like?”

James almost always went to the bar alone. That evening was not unlike most others. He was alone, a few rum and cokes in, and just enjoying his time alone. Then she appeared. Right next to him again. “Yes, me,” he said dully. “I try to come alone.” Her questions didn’t seem to end though. “I really could not care less if you were with your friend or not. As long as it’s fucking...never mind.” He shook his head. “Aren’t you like twenty?” he asked. “How the hell am I supposed to know? You ask too many questions and are rather annoying. Did you know that?” Then it clicked. She was drunk. And way too friendly. Sighing, he ordered himself another drink. He would need them. “Please don’t give her any thing else to drink,” he told the bartender. “Except water.”

“Get the fuck OUT!” James screamed as he chased the small girl out of the office of his shop. “How many times do I need to tell you to stay the fuck away from me?!” He was angry and when he had her cornered he towered over her. His eyes were narrowed and it took ever ounce of self control not to literally pick her up and throw her out of the building. “Stay away from me, my property, and just this area in general! You have no business being here. I swear I will call the cops next time and file a restraining order if I have to.” It wasn’t something he wanted to do as it could unravel a load of problems for him, but the threat was still there.

Narissa wanted to tease him endlessly for referring to himself as a captain but she held her tongue. Instead she just took another sip of her wine and nodded. “I thought you lived in some shack near the pier,” she said dead honest. She had imagined a small, tiny, falling-apart little hut of a home for him. She didn’t feel bad for thinking that way because based on how he dressed it seemed so!

“I’m sure you can,” she said smoothly, taking her glass in her hand and leaving the kitchen. “I am not letting that happen in the kitchen, though. I’m sure you can behave yourself for at least a day. Don’t you want a tour or something? It’s a big house after all.”

“I do not live in a shack. That’s just rude to assume. I didn’t need a seven bedroom house. It was just me and I spent more time at work than I did at home.” He shrugged, not really feeling the need to justify himself. Rolling his eyes, he followed her out of the kitchen. She could really be such a tease sometimes. “Sure, fine. A tour. Whatever you’d like to do, love.” He takes a sip of his wine then glances around the place again. It was huge. And elegant. Definitely like five steps up from what he was used to.

“She’s an intelligent young woman, that’s for sure,” James says before downing the rest of his rum and coke. “Horrible taste in men though. Like, god woman, pull yourself together! I just don’t get it. Yet she defends him!” ‘Him’ being Peter, of course. “She’s like, really smart? That’s the most I know about her. She always has books with her too. Kind of a nerd if you ask me. Definitely the type of girl I would have bullied in high school. Well, when I would show up that is. I think she’s a bit troubled, if I’m being honest. Maybe she has some skeletons in the closet or maybe she’s just caught up in some bullshit that she can’t get herself out of. I don’t know. I don’t really know her well enough to say. She seems alright and is always polite, which is more than I can say about her asshole little friends.”

Narissa was really doing it. She was letting James move in on a small trial period and honestly she wasn’t sure how she felt on it. On one hand she did want to try with him, she really did; but on the other hand she really enjoyed her own space. She was able to run her own empire off of it and she had her spaces that were off-limits like her work room. Still, the home was big enough to home more than her and James even so she supposed it couldn’t hurt. She was giving him his own room, though she wasn’t sure how much he was going to even use it. Still, it was a big step on her end. And his.

Once the moving in part was done, Narissa was in the kitchen pouring them both a glass of wine. “I honestly thought you had a lot less,” she said with a sigh. “But still, there is plenty of room I suppose. What would you like to do now?”

James wasn’t sure how he felt about moving into Narissa’s place. It just didn’t feel like home. Though with enough time he was certain it would. Still, things were strange between them. He loved her, he truly did, and he knew she did as well. But, it wasn’t the same as before. James had recently been able to start letting ago a lot of the past. He wanted to move on and have a future. If that meant going out of his comfort zone and even having separate rooms for a while that was fine with him to. 

“I have plenty of things. I just organize them well enough to keep them condensed. A captain wouldn’t want a messy cabin after all,” he states. When the glasses of wine are poured he takes one and gently taps his glass to hers as a little toast before taking a sip. “I didn’t think that far ahead. There’s plenty of things we could do.” He leans across the counter so he’s closer to her. “I can think of a few.”

It’d been quite a while since Wendy had run into Mr. Hook, and it was clear from his expression that he was just as glad about it as she was. She had come to not mind the company of the older man, especially now that Peter wasn’t around to fill her head about the horrible things he’d done to him. It wasn’t even sure if any of it was true anymore. “Why is it that I always find you alone?” she asked, sliding into the seat beside him at the bar, her notes from her interview tucked under her arm. “And drinking, for that matter. Not that I’m one to judge, you usually find me the same way. How have you been?”

James had been...well. Him and Narissa had agreed to try and actually make things work again. For the most part things were going really smooth. Except, well, his drinking. He knew she didn’t like it so most of the time he hid the fact that he was. They weren’t living together so it was easier to hide, but he had been going to bars he didn’t frequent much in case people would recognize him or she would find him. It was a very sneaky thing to do, but the man had a problem. He had started wearing his old wedding ring. Not always, but sometimes. This was one of those times. He was fiddling with it while he enjoyed a few drinks at the bar when Wendy just so happened to show up. It was a rather quiet bar, so it made sense. She was a quiet person. “I like being alone,” he stated. “Gives me time to think and be away from the idiots I work with all day.” He glanced over at her. “I also like to drink.” At least he was honest part of the time. “I’m fine. Shouldn’t you be studying or something? Isn’t it like a school night?”

He wanted to know how she was feeling. She supposed she couldn’t fault him from that. Since this has happened Narissa was trying to not let herself feel too much because she knew how things went when she did. And now she was faced with it all and it was a little overwhelming to say the least. She wasn’t sure what good it was going to do her in saying anything, but she was going to do that since it would stop the bullshit back and forth they had been on. “Fine. I feel….like I could really get used to this,” she admitted, sighing deeply. “I feel like I shouldn’t let myself get used to this or you or any of that….but I can’t lie and say I didn’t miss you ever. That I didn’t have feelings for you that aren’t coming back to me when we do have a good day because that…that would not be true. And it may be selfish of me to say this, but preserving my feelings was the only thing I could do to protect myself if this blew up in my face. And here we are fighting and I can’t help but wonder if this is a mistake.” She took his hand into hers, lacing their fingers together. “I shouldn’t love you. I really shouldn’t. But I do. And I kind of want to see how this goes even though everything is so different now.” She looked up at him. “I never know how serious something is to you until it’s too late so….I guess right now is the time to decide how much you want this. Want me….”

This was...the absolute least likely outcome that James expected. It was the outcome he wanted, but he didn’t expect it to happen. He was delighted it did. He felt like he could fly. This was the side of Narissa he fell in love with. The one that showed actual feelings and was honest. He knew they both had bitter and cruel sides as well, but he felt that they leveled each other out. “That’s all I wanted to hear,” he said softly. “Was the truth.” Deep down he felt he knew this all along but he could never be sure with her, and he certainly wasn’t going to say that. “I could get used to this too. The good days we have. I think most of them could be good if we tried. Which, is now clear it’s something we both want.” He squeezes her hand when she laces his fingers through hers and cracks a smile. Never in a million years did he think he would end up with her again, but for the first time since their split...he felt at peace with what happened. “Different can be good.” James takes a step closer to her. “I do want you. And everything that comes along with you. The good, the bad...all of it.” He leaned down and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “I love you, you know. I think it’s important that you hear me say it out loud.”

Narissa didn’t say anything for a moment. She was tired of the back and forth. She was tired of James acting like he wanted her and then trying to run away from it. She wasn’t giving him an easy time, she never did, but now that they were here and she was starting to warm up to it all again, it felt like they were back at square one. She didn’t think it was wrong to keep her distance despite their marriage, but she didn’t really give a shit that he was still torn up on this either. She wished she did but his narrative was boring. It was tired. “You’re the only one here going so out of your way to find a way out.” she finally said. “You are the one who wants to go. So go then. You don’t actually care about how I feel at all, do you? This was just some thing you could do so you could feel like a good person for trying again and shit but in reality you were waiting for me to fuck up in your eyes somehow and I haven’t, so you’re bringing up the past.”

“Find a way out?!” he snapped. He had told her he still loved her. Told her that he wanted to try and make things work out a second time, literal seconds ago. “I’m not going anywhere. So, unless you really want to get rid of me I’m going to try and make this work. Against all odds, I’m going to.” His expression was one of stress and annoyance but it softened into a more neutral one. “I do care about how you feel. It would be nice to know what you’re feeling, actually.” He shook his head. “Fine. I’ll stop bringing up the past if you can agree to try and move onto the future.” James knew he wasn’t a good person, but neither was Narissa. Maybe for that reason they were meant for each other. Regardless, this wouldn’t be an easy path taken but James was still going to walk down it, barefoot if need be, to attempt to salvage something. He had never stopped loving the woman in front of him. Part of him longed for a life of normalcy. A house, decent marriage, and a dog. He thought he could have that with her and then everything happened and his life turned to a shit show. Things weren’t perfect, but he was happy with her. Despite the ups, and many downs, he loved her more than anything. “Do you want me to apologize? I thought I covered that. I just want to live my life with you. No nonsense this time. Just you and me. Is that something you want to try and obtain or not?” He holds his hand out for her. A peace offering at the least, but a vow at most. “Say the word and we can. Or, you can tell me to fuck off right here and you’ll never see me again. If that’s what you want. But part of me-- a small part, still believes that somewhere deep inside of you still cares about me at least a little bit. If you didn’t you wouldn’t have agreed to marry me again. Drunk or not. If I’m wrong then shame on me, but at least I can say I want to try.”

For the first time in a very long time James was at a loss for words. He always seemed to be able to clap back at whatever venom Narissa spit at im, but in that moment he was frozen. “I--” he began but nothing else would form. He closed his mouth and shoved his hands in his pockets. She was right though, and that pissed him off. He did want to go drink after this. That would just cause more problems than solve them though. After a long silence he finally said, “I’m sorry. I don’t want to keep fighting with you.” He bit the inside of his cheek. “But,” he said carefully, “my feelings are just as valid as yours are.” He was trying to be as adult about this as possible. “I don’t know why I ever thought we could make this work a second time. As much as I want to...it seems that you don’t.”

“I don’t think we were ever on the same page,” James said. “I never had any intentions of dragging...whatever we had going on out. It was purely physical for me.” There was a lot of attraction to Angelique, for sure, and James didn’t wish anything bad to happen to her. But he had never been in love with her or anything like that. “I do apologize that I wasn’t honest with my intentions.” He felt a little guilty. James knew he wasn’t a great person, but he knew he at least owed Angelique an explanation and an apology. “I was going through a strange time. I needed a distraction.”

Wendy was a bit shocked to see the man beside her dressed up for the event; he didn’t seem like one to even attend one like this, nevermind come in costume. She motioned to the empty seat beside her as he sat down, her gaze shifting to the dance floor, hoping none of the boys had noticed her new guest. They didn’t know that she was cordial with Hook instead of trying to nearly torture the man at any chance she got. “Oh, yes, thank you. We all dressed up together, which has been fun. All of the scary things aren’t my personal favorite, though, so I’m trying to avoid that.”

James listened to her speak, nodding his head a little bit. He was quite buzzed. He wasn’t going to lie about that. And while he didn’t necessarily care about her group costume or the other friends she was with he was polite enough to actually listen. “How cute,” he comments blandly. “I pieced together there was a group costume going around when I spotted the Tinman and the Wicked Witch. And don’t act surprised. Everyone’s seen the Wizard of Oz.” His eyebrows raise. “Not a fan of the scary things? That’s the only fun part of Halloween though. Seeing children terrified as something creepy jumps out at them. Well, I guess I can’t complain about the candy either.”

It had been a while since Wendy had seen Mr. Hook, and she supposed that maybe this was a good thing. Though he’d proven himself to be not as scary as she’d previously thought, there was still something about him that felt unnerving to her, and Halloween made Wendy especially spooked. It seemed he only showed up to events like these for the cheap drinks, not that she could blame him, and he always seemed to find Wendy with her own in her hand. “You can take a spot here,” she offered as he passed by, seemingly looking for a table. “My friends just wanted to put their things down. I’m sure it’ll be their turn to watch it soon. I know you don’t like the boys very much, but for now, it’s just me.”

James felt silly dressing up for Halloween. It wasn’t something he’d done much in his adult life. Still, it was sort of fun. For the time being he had his Ghostface mask in his bad hand and a drink in the other. Sure, he came mostly to pester Narissa and for the cheap drinks but that didn’t mean he couldn’t still have fun. He wanted to sit for a moment, gather his thoughts until he made his next move, and when he passed Wendy and she offered him a place at her table he accepted. “I suppose just you is fine,” he teased with a slight smirk. “Are you enjoying yourself tonight, Miss Wendy?” Wendy had never really done anything to him personally so, for the most part, he tried to show her politeness. That could change with the flip of a coin though.
