Sorry professor there is no way I could possibly turn in my assignment tonight. You see, theres been a level 5 event in my fandom, no I can not work around this.
Everyone, we can fix Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet if we just switch the leads.
Romeo wakes up in Hamlet's body and meets the ghost of "his" father telling him to kill his uncle. So if course Romeo just fucking does it, because he never considers consequences, and then gets onto more important shit, like romancing Ophelia, political fallout be damned! But given that he's the son of the murdered king, he'd probably end up on top.
Hamlet wakes up as Romeo and is told that he can't marry the love of his life because his family hates her family. Instead of killing Tybalt and getting Merucio murdered, he's planning elaborate meet-cutes for the two warring families. He's putting on plays about blood feuds and how to overcome them. He either succeeds in bringing the families together or bores Juliet enough with his indecision that the glow wears off and she moves on; both positive options. Everybody lives.
i think pretty much every character in hamlet is equally fascinating but i do kind of feel worst for horatio. imagine you go to your friend’s house to visit over like a college break and while you’re there your friend and his whole family gets murdered in front of you. horatio doesn’t even live there

The lesson of avatar was never “killing bad people makes you just as bad as them” it was “you cannot be letting fascists dictate what counts as a win or loss” guys like come on it’s been 20 years
Katara doesn’t forgive Yon Rha and hug him and dry him off and walk him home she leaves him scared and sniveling and crying in the mud but she leaves him alive because she realized in that moment that she was only doing this because she felt like she had to. She hates this man, therefore she should want to kill him, right? The narrative isn’t saying wow Katara killing a mass murdering fascist dickwad is just as bad as said dickwad killing an innocent wife and mother during a raid on her home, it’s saying wow isn’t it fucked up that this little girl has been forced to carry this deep seated anger in her for most of her life to the point where the only outlet she believes she has for it is killing a man in cold blood? And like… yeah! That is pretty fucked!
And you know what ELSE is pretty fucked? That a 12 year old survivor of a genocide be told, over and over again that in order to bring balance and peace to the world he needs to go against the central tenants of his culture. Yeah, there didnt seem to be any other way than killing Ozai to stop the war but by constantly telling this kid that lethal violence, the same method used against his people by the fire nation, is the only path forward was indeed, very fucked!

Hiii, I was wondering what specific ethnicity (atleast phenotypically) you see the fire family as! I'm an artist and I've had my own opinions but it'd be great to see yours as I really enjoy your blog. I've seen them depicted mostly as Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Thai and was wondering what you think of that as well?
Yeah, I pretty much agree with the common consensus on what they would look like as real people. I've actually made fancast posts on them (as well as the rest of the ATLA character roster, actually).
My favorite find is Vincent Rodriguez III, who genuinely looks like a young Sozin come to life.
I don't really want to say that the fire family phenotypically looks like a specific ethnicity, because there's honestly so much overlap in facial features between different East Asian groups, and even some Southeast Asians with East Asian ancestry (like Vincent Rodriguez III). I say this as an Asian that has been assumed to be just about every ethnicity imaginable by other Asians, both in the US and Asia.
Most people in the English-speaking world who say they can tell different Asian ethnicities apart are actually picking up more on the accent, fashion style, and mannerisms than they are on facial features.
A better way to describe the fire family is that most of them fit the modern-day East Asian beauty standard, either fully or partially: Light skin, narrow nose with a defined bridge, and a v-shaped jawline. There are obviously subtle distinctions between the beauty standards of different East Asian nations, but the three standards I listed are the expectation throughout all of East Asia.

Possible Ty Sister Names
I know one of the "Free Comic Book Day" comics already named her sisters, but I've always viewed the side story comics as "optional" canon. Here's my take on possible Ty sister names, assuming that Ty Lee's name means "Soot Plum":
Ty Tao (炱桃): Soot Peach
Ty Zao (炱枣): Soot Jujube
Ty Xing (炱杏): Soot Apricot
Ty Ju (炱橘): Soot Tangerine
Ty Cheng (炱橙): Soot Orange
Ty Shi (炱柿): Soot Persimmon
Ty You (炱柚): Soot Pomelo
Ty Ye (炱椰): Soot Coconut
Personally, I think a "fruit basket" theme would work well for a set of septuplets.
Random question: Do you think that spirits and fruit could have been involved in the septuplets' conception? There's a lot of stories about conception in mythology/religion and fruit tends to feel significant. (And I'm pretty sure septuplets weren't a thing until some invitro fertilization methods. So I feel like this would work.)
Also... is Ty the surname? I kind of like the idea of Ty being the last name. (Though always saying it makes some questions.) I guess we see some Fire Nation in Korra where the surname is second, but that also feels optional... OR does the 'Ty' mean that they are all of the same birth? So twins would have the same name followed by a distinctive name?
This post is giving me too many ideas.
I don't believe that Ty is Ty Lee's surname, mainly because it doesn't make sense for her to be referred to by her full name while Mai is referred to only by her given name. As far as I can tell, she and Mai appear to be of relatively equal social status, so Azula and Zuko would likely address them in the same way.
I think it's more likely that Ty is a generation name. A generation name refers to the practice of giving each person within a family's generation a shared character/syllable, while the other character/syllable is unique to the individual. This practice is traditional to Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese culture.
Considering that Ty Lee is one of seven sisters--- for all we know, she may even have brothers, on top of that--- it makes sense that her parents would give them a generation name, as a way of showing off how many children they have (and to make naming them easier).
As for how Ty Lee ended up with six sisters... If we assume she is part of a set of septuplets, I'm thinking this was a case of spirit shenanigans. I like to think her mother begged a spirit to help her get pregnant and the spirit fulfilled the wish a little too well; it was a monkey's paw situation. I also like to think this is where Ty Lee's ability to see auras came from.
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
oh shit
As the OP of this post, I’m going to threaten that if this gets to one million notes by the 10 year anniversary on 1 June 2026, one year from today, I will get a lower back tattoo of the loch ness bear monster.
Y'all know what to do Tumblr.
