todd anderson and the day he outgrows neil's sweater, realising that he's lived longer and deeper than neil now and even his clothes know it, even they can't cling to todd anymore because him and neil belong in different worlds.

yes todd and neil are in love but also hear me out:

Looks of longing and admiration: gay, yes, and also an example of how they admire what one another lives for.

Beauty, art, romance, love these are what we stay alive for. They both admire each other's freedom to express those.

Neil sees that Todd has a natural art of poetry inside of him that is celebrated in school, granting him the freedom to create. Todd sees that Neil has the natural ability to love--love living--and the freedom to perform (even if it's performance that's killing him).

The beautiful part of it all is that they both pursue these artistic passions naturally, they're good at them, and they enjoy them. The difference is their freedom.

Todd's freedom is defined in how he gets to create a life for himself and to explore his ability and build his confidence (at deleted scene). This is what Neil wants. Neil's freedom is guise, it looks like he is free to converse with his friends and be distinguished without fear, which is what Todd wants--he thinks that there is nothing of value inside him, but really Neil is trapped. He doesn't have the freedom to do what he wants.

Maybe that's why he makes Todd join the club and tells him he can't take care of himself just fine--he's been shown love and care in the planning and control from his parents. But going a step further, he's able to recognize that there is more to Todd than this blank slate, that he does have some value and worth inside of him and needs a push to come out.

Neil can give Todd his freedom, but Todd can't give Neil his, a nice juxtaposition to the fact that Todd's a writer and Neil's a performer--it was Neil planning out the life that Todd got to live, a complete role reversal to their artistic pursuits because Todd was able to get what he deserved. While Neil just performed.

charlie has a top hat and magic wand and once tried to show todd a magic trick he'd been practising for ages and he fucked it up and todd laughed at him (he got really upset and took his hat off in defeat)

meeks is REALLY good at swimming

charlie would absolutely play careless whisper on his sax, cameron had enough and tried to stuff it with tissue whilst charlie was sleeping
