Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu OP - Super Driver - by Aya Hirano
LOOK AT ME. Look at me go.
quoting myself like a boss.
Kris perked up from where she had taken refuge on his couch, her body draped across it so that there was only room for one person on it and that person was HER because shedeserved it, dammit.
“Hot damn,” she exclaimed appreciatively, climbing over the back of the couch for the shortest possible route to the kitchen counter. “Y’know, when I asked fer ice cream, I was kinda expectin’ one’a ‘dose pre-packaged t’ings—y’know, like a King Cone? But ‘dis! ‘Dis is incredible!!”
She didn’t bother bringing the dish to a table, instead hopping up and taking a seat on the counter, legs dangling off the side and ice cream sitting in her lap. She was hard-pressed to not be in a good mood; it was so much warmer here!! And now there was a sundae involved! Beneath it all Kris was a girl of simple pleasures, truly.
“I didn’t know you was da sundae-maker extraordinaire,” she said after a bite, spoon dangling from her mouth and heels kicking against the cabinets.

“Ya know, waving around meat like that isn’t going to bring them over to you. If you’re trying to get their attention, you’re doing it all wrong! I’ve made lots of animal friends, maybe I can try?”
He totally hasn’t been observing the teal haired girl the past ten or so minutes. With nothing fun going on, he had to go and search–coming across a sight like this was surely unexpected, but he couldn’t just watch her flail around all night.
UGH. She’d been aware of Smiley loitering around, but had rather hoped that he’d remain quiet. She may have come out of her room, but there was still a vast majority of people she’d rather not have to talk to, and this guy was near the top of the list. What was he even doing? NO ONE came around to Adventureland anymore, especially not at night. And now he was acting like that one Team Plasma freak, calling them ‘animal friends’ like he was some sort of Disney Princess?
“Fine.” The single word was bloated with rancor as she glared at him. “You wanna give it a shot? Give it a shot, Snow White. F’you can somehow get Betelgeuse ova’ here, I’ll eat my shorts.” She gestured with a jerk of her head towards a particularly large alligator, loitering disinterestedly about fifteen yards beyond the Adventureland border.
[ ★ ] THESE SENTENCE STARTERS FILL YOU WITH DETERMINATION!
“Don’t try and tell me what ta do!!”
Hiding was never one of Kris’ go-to strategies—nine-times-out-of-ten she’d stand and fight, and the last one-out-of-ten-times were reserved for her running away (which, for those curious, usually only happened after she’d tried fighting.) Hiding was for cowards—and now that Silver’d told her to do exactly that, she was more averse to it than ever.
“Fuck you, Firecrotch, YOU go behind ‘da conveniently-shaped lamp!!”

When the heavy, round, spherical thing rebounded off the back of his head Hydreigon initially paid it no mind. After all, he still had his prey to focus on, and it was so incredibly rude to attempt to run out on a meal when someone was waiting for you — even if the only one waiting was the meal itself. The beast’s heads came down, and with them three sets of razor-blade teeth fit to tear through bone and sinew as though it were margarine.
But the satisfaction of torn flesh pressing against his gums never came. The Hydreigon was blind, but that hardly left him unable to perceive the world around him. It only took him a fraction of a second to realise that his meal had vanished, and then, with the sound of the spherical thing that had assaulted the back of his head falling to the ground in tandem with the tell-tale snik-tch of a Pokémon getting returned into its Pokéball, one moment more for the realisation of what’d just happened to set in. All morning the Audino had been his play thing, tempting him with its pudgy body while he’d bashed it haphazardly against trees and stones, and right when they’d been just about to reach the grand finale of their little game he’d been robbed of his climax. The Dark-Dragon-type looked up; there was a curl of contempt to his mouth, the corners of his lips twisting into an ugly grimace darkened with a quiet sort of fury. Madness swelled within him like a wild dog.
A human being. Small — somewhere within his lizard brain, within the basal ganglia, something hissed darkly in his inner ear: weak, that the offending party was small, weak, helpless, a perfectly easy meal to catch to replace the Audino that had been so rudely spirited away. His stomach rolled, knotted tightly and weighted down with a growing sense of hunger-pain-induced injustice. He had, after all, done nothing wrong. To hunt, to prey, to attack — it was all nature taking its course. If anything, it was the human who had to be sorry for the crime against the natural order she’d committed — but it was fine. He was flexible; he would take a different sort of meal.
It would hardly be the first time he’d tasted human flesh, but not every experience needed to be a new one. Naturally, he advanced on her.
There was a low, rolling sort of growl as he lowered his heads and slowly sundered up behind her while his warped, frighteningly underdeveloped secondary heads threw their jaws open in a piercing sort of shriek-wail. The unholy sound did not cease once he got closer, close enough to butt the left secondary head against her shoulder; it pressed its scaly snout hard against her throat, specifically against the area just beneath her ear so it could more easily feel the faint pulsing of the artery underneath her skin, all the while still screaming like a banshee. It only ever stopped once, to take in a deep breath of her scent before the Hydreigon suddenly grew more aggressive. All three sets of jaws suddenly snapped open and rushed down at her at once, and all of a sudden the scene with the Audino had been picked up right where it’d left off, except standing in for the Audino was one human girl.
【 HYDREIGON used CRUNCH! 】
Kris turned around (who wouldn’t, with that awful screeching?) just in time to be face-to-face with the dragon—or, face-to-face-to-face-to-face? It didn’t matter—especially not now, when one of its secondary heads pressed against her cervical lymph nodes, too high up on her neck for the collar of her shirt to offer any sort of buffer. The muscles in her throat tensed and flexed and strained at the proximity—for a moment she felt vulnerable, with the frightful excuse for a head pressed to her neck like a blade.
But Hydreigon had made a miscalculation; Kris Clarity was small in form, yes, but in spirit she dwarfed entire universes. She was not small, nor weak, nor helpless—and by the time the Brutal Pokemon’s jaws had snapped open, a dozen courses of action had already been contemplated and planned. By the time the trio of heads was lunging for her throat, the most favourable one was already being put into effect.
Kris slammed the brunt of her forearm against the offending head’s neck before she lunged—not backward, but forward, defying presumable expectations and working counterintuitively to Hydreigon’s forward momentum. She nearly collided with his collarbone, the balls of her feet making imprints in the dirt as she pivoted sharply, kicking off to the right—in the direction of the head that had, just a second ago, been up against her throat. She kept hunched over, ducked so low that her fingertips might have scraped the ground had her hands not been busy retrieving a pokeball from her bag— —her bag, that snagged on something.
Had it gotten caught in one of the beast’s maws? She didn’t have time to contemplate it—she released the pokeball from its holster with a dexterous hand before slipping her arms free, peeling towards where Moxie had stood just thirty seconds prior. Hydreigon were fast, she knew—trying to outrun it would be… not the most viable. In fact—the more she recalled about hydreigon, the more she remembered just how impressive it was. Powerful. Aggressive. Bulky and durable. Fast.
But a pokemon nonetheless. Nothing that she couldn’t handle.
She released the pokeball in her grip as she ran, as soon as she felt there was adequate space between her and the dragon. Behind her she could hear the warp of the pokeball expanding, the mechanical hum of the contained energy manifesting, coalescing into something massive—and she felt the ground shake as the pokemon crashed down.
“SCULLY, GO!”
The hulking rampardos responded immediately, adjusting his angle and nearly taking out his own trainer with his thick tail. He let out a thundering howl, spittle flying from his maw as he lowered his head and charged.
【 SCULLY used HEAD SMASH! 】

“ Or maybe, ” she thought aloud, “ When I tawk, it could look a little somethin’ like ‘dis!! ”
“Alright,” said girlfriend to her boyfriend, with a wink and a nudge. “I’m thinking I’ll handle it like this: when there are threads with actions in between the dialogue——” as if to make a point, she did a little jig and sang a song. Look at her go! She certainly is a catch.
“When this kind of stuff happen, I’ll keep all of the dialogue bolded. BUT...” She cast her gaze downward, and then sprang immediately into monologue mode:
“When I’m doing dash commentary or something like that, or I’m presenting evidence in DPOE, and there’s absolutely no actions other than dialogue, I think I’ll just do it like this. That way there’s more room for emphasis and variety in what I’m trying to punctuate! What do you think?”
