fauna was in awe of everything. while she had lived in breezy hollow as a kid, it had been six years since she’d been here. everything seems the same, yet so different. the BBQ was the perfect way to catch up with everyone. “oh my goodness.” she said, stopping and turning to look at her. “thank you so much. are you positive?”

“Absolutely!” she promised the brunette with friendly smile, urging the glass towards her once more. “And if you hate it then think about it this way– at least it was free, right?” Cara added with a soft laugh. “Although I hope you don’t hate it of course. It’s freshly squeezed lemonade. I’d say a glass of that can be even more refreshing than water on a day like this.”

“See? Apple peeling isn’t that hard. It’s like carving a pumpkin except smaller.” Flurry held up the apple she was working on, turning it to show the cat face she’d just carved into it. During the small lull between activities at the barbecue Flurry thought she’d give a small demonstration of apple peeling. It was easy with a small sculpting knife and apple or at least Flurry found it easy. “Plus everything you carve off,” She grabs a bit of the peeled apple skin to plop in her mouth. “Makes for a nice snack or a ingredients to a nice apple recipe.”

“If it’s not meant to be that hard... then my results are embarrassing,” Cara sighed in defeat, her fingers sporting tiny cuts from whenever her sculpting knife had slipped. The apple itself was not beautifully carved but instead had some chucks properly shaved off of the top and side. “I can perform a root canal with my eyes closed but this is certainly not my calling,” she added. “Perhaps I should stick to the eating part. You on the other hand– you’re a proper pro! How did you even figure out you had this talent?”

Ever the genius, he can’t help but sport an almost mischievous grin as he accepts the drink, followed by a, “Only the first?” The young man pauses for a moment, joke passing. “Actually, though, thanks!” Sipping at his drink absentmindedly, he takes in the rest of the barbecue, and the people wandering around it. He’s much more an unintentional wallflower at these sorts of events than an active participant, but that’s never stopped him from enjoying them. (Or enjoying the food, for that matter.) “So when you volunteer for this — did you know you were gonna be handling the drinks? Or did you just really wanna help in general?”

“Don’t get greedy,” she teased in response as he takes the drink from her. Cara was already working on filling some of the other cups so that they’d be ready if anyone else came by. They had be graced with some great weather and it just called for a nice refreshing drink. “I mean you can volunteer and specify what you’d like to do or let them place you somewhere where they need more help. I just knew I shouldn’t be touching any of the plants or grills so I suggested I just pour lemonade,” she admitted, definitely prone to getting a bit distracted. “But it’s nice to be able to help out, I dunno,” Cara shrugged. “Why? Were you thinking of helping out?”

Lucky had heard that there was going to be food, which was most of why he was here, but he hadn’t known any of it would be free. This? This was next-level good stuff going on right here. “Am I that obvious?” he had to ask, taking the drink with a smile and taking a sip. “Thanks, though, this is good.” Whatever he’d taken a sip of. He probably would’ve said anything tasted good.

“Lucky guess?” she replied with a little shrug and a smile. He seemed to enjoy the beverage and Cara was honestly just relieved. If the lemonade was too bitter it’d be a total flop but she didn’t want to put too much sugar in it either. A dentist’s instinct perhaps. “Okay but wait until you pair it with some of the food around here! Serious some of the stuff is delectable. There might be not a single thing at this BBQ that I don’t reccomend.”

“No, you’re right Cara,” Cheyenne smiled and nodded at the blonde’s point. “Honestly, I can’t say I’ve really given it a try. All that dirt…it seems a bit too messy for me,” she joked. “I think gardens and people who’s closet is mostly white fabrics don’t mix very well. But it will definitely be educational, so I can’t argue with that.”

“I know it’s not really your style but there is something about being hands on and planting something yourself that’s satisfying,” she admitted. She’d taken part in town events like this before, but she certainly didn’t try repotting her plants at home without help from someone more knowledgable. “Maybe you should get a few more pops of color in there, Cheyenne,” the blonde teased with a warm smile. “Yeah seeing the kids get all excited about gardening might be one of my favorite parts. Who knows, maybe today is the day someone finds out their new life’s passion you know?”

The blonde had volunteered to help with the refreshments at the BBQ. As she poured drinks out for people as they came by, Cara enjoyed seeing members of the town come together. She liked having a sense of community. “Hey, you look like you could use a cold drink,” she called to somebody passing by the different food stands. “Here. First one’s on the house,” Cara added with a wink.

Cheyenne had just listened to a bit of the instructions on the new community garden being unveiled before turning to someone nearby. “Do you think this will work out? People would have to be pretty dedicated to be checking up on this every day,” she pondered.

“I mean I don’t see why it shouldn’t,” Cara replied optimistically. “Sure it’s a lot of work, but I like those enthusiastic about gardening will get a real kick out of it,” she added with a little shrug. “I don’t know too much about plants so I’ll probably enjoy it from afar to not mess anything up,” the blonde mentioned with a soft laugh. “Do you have a green thumb at all?”
