When I was a new & nervous hairdresser, my friend @amieshoe brought me with her downtown to The Studio An Elite Salon & Spa. I told her I didn’t belong there but she disagreed. I spent the next 2 years there learning, growing, exploring, arguing, laughing, being frustrated, getting over it, and making discoveries about myself, #salonlife, and the world of #hairdressing. Leaving was hard, and a little dramatic, and I tried to do my best to make it gracious but I was leaving my little family and that wasn’t easy. I knew I had to go off and have new salon experiences because I had this weird feeling it was all leading to something else. I couldn’t have guessed the changes of the last few years, but I’m thankful for all the moments that laid the groundwork for where I’m headed today. And just to be sure there was never any doubt, I scribbled this inside my station cabinet at The Studio, on my last day, after I packed the last of my brushes and combs. Shelby and I definitely bonded today during her very long color appointment on her VERY long hair, and even though we were both pretty tired, I couldn’t let her go without a few pictures. I was really excited for today because TODAY, I got to finally meet Stacie! Stacie has been my Instagram friend, and has even sent her family to me to get their hair done (and I love them all) but I had yet to meet Stacie herself, until today! Stacie is a “retired” hairdresser (☺️) and so she showed me a picture of what she wanted for a cut, but clarified it was “just for inspiration”, and then said she’d like to go much lighter, and clarified that she “knows it’s a process”. Wow guys, super sweet girl, realistic expectations, and just look at how cute it all came together! After I dried it, she said she’d never been this light before and I thought it was pretty rad that I got to be the one to do it. 🙌🏻 Thanks for being so awesome, Stacie! Today was my Saturday off, but when a friend reached out because HER friend was having a hair emergency, I couldn’t say no. What would you do if this sat down in your chair on a brisk Saturday morning? I decided the simplest solution would probably be the best one, so I just said a few magic words, and voila. 😆 I really wanted the curl it afterward, but this guest prefers straight, and until today had been relegated to ONLY curls to hide that color that made her feel less-than-confident. Afterward, in lieu of a pat on the back, I treated myself to a cute new shirt. Did a perm yesterday and forgot about it until I walked into the salon this morning and COULD NOT figure out the odd scent in the air. 😆 Luckily, perms smell A LOT better than they used to. I remember back when my mom would get them and then she couldn’t wash her hair for a few days and so the whole house would smell like perm. 😳 I always loved my mom’s hair permed though. No matter how much you tell yourself to prepare for the unexpected, you just can’t be ready for everything. But this can also mean unexpected happiness and positivity - it’s not always the things that go wrong, but also the things that go amazingly and spectacularly right. I haven’t been sure what day it is for about a week, but I know that when your heart is 100% in it, you keep going until it’s officially day one of a new beginning.
