introducing..... my colouring process 😼😼

it's pretty dodgy bc yk. quick tutorial and all. but it'll do. more detailed tips under the cut!

pick ur base colours! my advice: don't pick the "true" bright versions of the colours you wanna use. go a lil bit desaturated so it's not so glaring. it's gunna look PLENTY vibrant later anyway. this isn't a hard rule, it's just what works for my style. you can go super bright if u wanna! i'm not your boss idk

make a slight dark gradient from the bottom! i personally use a multiply layer for that

add some broad shadows- helps you figure out the forms, where the light is coming from, etc

i like to darken the shadows but only where the shadow meets the lighter areas, adds visual interest imo

from here, i like to add more light "shadows" for a bit of texture.

next, i do a lil "add" layer! i use an airbrush to brighten the top of the mask a bit, then i add the same textures i did with the light shadows earlier. ties it together a bit

now for the fun part...... finishing effect layers...... i usually abuse overlay layers LOLOL but for this example i just used one. i keep the colours cooler in the shadows, warmer in the light

another finishing touch! colouring lineart. sometimes i'll leave the lineart black, but in more elaborate pieces, i colour the lineart to make it look a lil less busy
