My name's Gem and I write, draw and suffer through programming to see my ideas come to fruition. For all my complaining, I actually enjoy programming, I just wish it were easier to learn it all faster.

I write, read and draw a lot. It's what I enjoy. Micro-Update

Been hammered with bad news pretty much all year and this month is no different.

Trying to learn about Godot and realising in a good way and bad what I can do differently with Accessories to Murder. From animations and camera angle for the main walking loop to updating character abilities and having a clear idea of what the deduction screen will actually look/act like. It's frustrating to can a bunch of work but I think it'll be better in the long run.

Balancing that, I've also been trying to write my Scarlet Rose book, which has been... every emotion under the sun. Fun, frustrating, exciting, painful, too much, not enough, better than I could've hoped for. Finding the time, energy and will to get work done on top of the other work that needs getting done is a task in and of itself. Still, progress is progress.

As for Memories of Aether, I haven't touched it other than to throw the character in Tomodachi Life. I'm at capacity for workload at the moment but the siren's song of writing a lengthy outline to turn into a proper draft of a novel has been singing to me quite a bit these days.

My tooth ache is still beating me to death but I have I will see the dentist next week. I dread it.

I like to get gripped by new ideas so I've tried something out. I have written a very in-depth summary of a new project, from start to finish (with a few blank spots to come back to later).

Now I've printed off those pages to go over and see if I can draw out where each chapter should begin/finish.

From there I'll write it. If everything goes smoothly, I may actually have a book completed.

Happy 3rd Anniversary to Accessories to Murder

Big claim for someone who hasn't actually completed the prototype but working alone is very time-consuming and if I don't mark milestones with tiny celebrations then it will all be drudge work. I can't let that happen!!

I wanted to redraw something to give myself a little boost so I chose my first anniversary picture.

Vague Updates

I quit therapy early January. After three sessions with a new guy I felt more insane than ever. So I spent a few days deciding if I wanted to find a private therapist or do something else. I picked "do something else".

Yesterday marks 5 weeks of my doing meditations in the morning and a session of Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku (don't judge, it's fun and gets me moving) with a few days to rest my bones every now and then. I also finally got myself a library card and have been borrowing books, both fiction and non-fiction, to just feed my mind. I used up all my remaining Audible credits so I could safely close my account there, grabbing books on philosophy, rhetoric, and a book on helping me figure out mathematics.

Speaking of, I started digging more into maths. I never actually completed school and was home-schooled quite poorly. I knew a lot about history, art and all the fun subjects but no one actually liked maths or science, so they didn't bother and for all their love of reading and writing, they did a bad job at teaching grammar too... But I'm tackling these things. Better late than never.

As for my personal projects, I've moved all my writing to ellipsus and started making new documents there. I'll miss not being able to make random generators with google sheets but whatever, right? I should be writing more than I play and I do plenty of playing around too. I've been going over the list of needs for my RPG Maker prototype of Accessories to Murder, learning in-depth how to program with C# for when I'm ready to bring it to Unity, and compiling what assets I'll still need to make for the prototype. I recently started work on Scarlet Rose's story, and blocked out the first half of the story in depth. I'm leaving things stewing for a bit before I make my charge towards the the end of the outline but it's going well. Memories of Aether is also gonna get a written up outline and I figure out how much of the story I want to cover in the first book. This is the problem when you start with an idea as a game, then turn it into a book. You end up wanting to cover so much ground that you get swallowed up by it! But I'm deciding the pace I want for the first story, treating it exactly like it is: a portion of a much longer story.

And that's about it. I've been busy chipping away at commission work on the side too but it can be tricky to balance all things at once. Some days you don't have the energy to handle it all so you make do with just a bit. It's fine though. I'm not stressed and I'm taking things as they come.

Here's to a much, much stronger 2026 for me.
