Armand Jean du Plessis, duc de Richelieu
Homme d'Église et homme d'État
It’s been a long time when I drew, but voilà, a little piece of art for you !
Three times The Grand Deceiver failed to hide a smirk and one time he wouldn’t even have wanted try to for anything in the word.
@cardinalarmandrichelieu @himmeldurchkrieg
"I don't why I have been summoned before you. I have committed no crime towards the church or crown."
The Cardinal sat at his desk, his eyes still down to the papers in his hands. He cleared his throat to speak, although his eye remained on his work.
“I called you here, out of interest,” he remarked, “You just may be a valuable asset.”
levixthxn-thegirl:
Possible victims of witchcraft? Now that was more up her alley. She loved to hear the pompous and over boasting clergymen talk of witchcraft and ‘other dark arts’, even though they were only trying to rationalize their own fears. This was really the only time she was able to let her true talents come to light.
“Of course, I would like nothing more assist you clean their reputation.”
Ambrosine would be lying if she said she wasn’t excited, her eyes lit up with interest. Hopefully it will more than just speculations.
A coy smile slid its way onto the cardinal’s face, keenly enjoying Rosie’s enthusiasm. “Well, mademoiselle Taggart, then it appears we have an accord. I expect you here within the week, ready for this...let’s say budding chapter of our alliance.”

“And from how the wording was put, it was written by the Dominican Order to a Cardinal…” she trailed off, marveling at it. Once again, she was lost and forgotten about His Eminence for a moment.
“The detail is still all there, incredible…”
The cardinal lifted his brow, quite amused by Ambrosine’s keen eye for detail and her quick intellect. It would seem, as it were, that she would make a fine addition to his line of associates. Time would note if this observation were correct.
“Well done, now I have other matters I would like your keen eye for. There are three women, one of is accused of witchcraft. The other two are, collateral damage. They are of noble families, I would like to avoid an execution of these women. If they have fallen under possession, or worse, under the spell of the witch, I’m afraid I will need you to take care of it.”
“Within the week I will bring you to where they are being held, and we will further discuss their condition.”
A soft hum pasted her lips, looking thoroughly at the document, checking through each and every detail. Delicately, she traced her fingertips over the paper. She seemed to have forgotten about Cardinal Richelieu, even if it was just for a moment.
“Even with such care, if it was older, it certainly wouldn’t look this well intact. It’s more towards the 14th century for sure.”
An uncontrollable smile befalls the Cardinals lips. Truthfully he would have been quite disappointed if the rumors did not prove themselves true...well, at least not all of them.
“Excellent...”
He poured himself a glass of wine, still watching her examine the document. It was a gift from the dominicans from their archives, Florentine in origin, once a gift to cardinal.
Once again, left alone with him. Did he do this often with his guests, or was she just special? Still, nothing to worry about. At least, just yet. A lot of it was supervising restoring relics or documents or providing assistance when needed. Nothing was independently done by her.
Ambrosine gave a sudden nod to the Cardinal before approaching him. Ohh, a test. Immediately once she was presented with the manuscript, she came over and seemed to hover over it, inspecting it carefully.
“It seems that is handled with a lot of care. That’s good.”
The Cardinal walked back to his desk, watching Ambrosine muse over the text from there. He found himself curious if she could catch that it was not quite as old as the 13th century, more so 14th century than anything. If she was worth her salt she would correct him in this. And until she did, he would right her off.
“And?”
“I will let Father Dimitrios know of my absence at once, Your Eminence. I hope I can fulfill what you need to be accomplished.”
There is a possibility he doesn’t know, and God did she pray for that. Maybe just maybe he did just need her careful hand at preserving some things for the church or even cleaning some texts. Usually, the simplest answers were the best ones.
Later, into the following day, Cardinal Richelieu summoned Ambrosine to his office. This time, they were left alone, apart from a guard at the door. He stood up from his desk, his cloak billowing behind him. In his arms was a text he had received a week prior. He gestured for Ambrosine to come closer to take a look.
“I have here an illuminated manuscript from the 13th-14th century, now this should be simple enough for you to decipher. Call it a brain teaser if you will, I want you to tell me of its country of origin, and who may have made it.”
“I have been brought up to work that way, to focus on the betterment rather than the glory of it all.”
Ambrosine knew that look on his face was one of distaste when a noble name didn’t pass her lips. Oh well, how could she help that? But she was apart of a society with more roots and ties than any royal family. The Taggarts were worth more for their knowledge and magics than any silver or gold.
“I assume this isn’t about my works, isn’t it?”
The cardinal smoothed his thumb and index finger over his mustache and goatee, while still eyeing down Ambrosine. Her beauty and grace reminded him of Milady De’ Winter, although it would yet to be seen what else she would bring. If reputation would follow through.
“On the contrary it is, but on a trial basis. I have yet to see your work for myself. I am not a man to follow rumor and reputation.”
“You will work for me for two months, in that time you will prove your self worthy of my time.”
She took notice of how confident he felt that he didn’t need the guards that escorting her in. Most who knew of her blight had rosaries at her throats and spears to her back, but he didn’t seem to bat at an eye. He must have been too involved with her pretty face to even care.
“My family name is Taggart, sir. And I wasn’t aware that anyone of importance had heard of my work.”
A frown befell his face. She was a nobody, not of noble blood or title...although her influence and reputation were perplexing given the circumstance. He crossed his arms over his chest, pondering his thoughts for a moment.
“You deal in the shadows, as do my associates. Not all work for the crown glitters like gold.”
Asset? What could he possibly mean? Her help with the recovery and preservation of documents and other holy artifacts were known yes, but typically she was never called for personally.
“I’m sorry Your Eminence, but I don’t understand what you mean.”
Unless…does he know? How would he know?
Finally, he looks up at her, surprised to see she is of exquisite beauty and seemingly breathtaking grace. The Cardinal stands up from his desk, moving around to get a better look at her.
“Your work is important to the work I do. I will keep it in simple terms for now.”
He waves off two guards that stand in his way from closing the distance between himself and his guest.
“What is your family name?”
"I don't why I have been summoned before you. I have committed no crime towards the church or crown."
The Cardinal sat at his desk, his eyes still down to the papers in his hands. He cleared his throat to speak, although his eye remained on his work.
