"Because the most important lesson we learned from seeing killer whales in captivity is that they don’t belong in captivity." - Gabriela Cowperthwaite
After 28 days of blue coves, two red coves came along. It was too good to be true for 2 months of blue coves. I just can't take this anymore.

I LOVE ARIANA SO MUCH YOU GUYS. PLEASE VOTE FOR HER HERE: http://artistontherise.mtv.com/ HELP HER WIN ARTIST ON THE RISE FROM THE EMA’S :) SHE LOVES SEA LIFE. SHE USED TO WANT TO BE A SEAWORLD TRAINER BUT NOW SHE’S CHANGED HER MIND SINCE SEEING BLACKFISH.
Today it is 30 years since Tilikum was kidnapped from the wild.
30 years since he last saw and felt the ocean. 30 years since he last saw his mother. 30 years of having to perform circus tricks to get food. 30 years of being the sperm bank of the captive orca breeding program. 30 years of being raked and attacked by other orcas. 30 years of being isolated in small tanks. 30 years of stress, loneliness and frustration.
On behalf of all mankind: I’m so sorry, Tilikum.
How can anyone call this acceptable??!
I have seen many sad pictures of Tilikum over the years, but this one really takes the cake. This is just heartbreaking
I can actually tell you a thing.
For those who don’t know, that’s Malia. She is often seen at his gate, just like this, and it’s really saddening. I eventually got tired of just watching her lurk his gate and asked a trainer why they’re kept apart. They’re father and daughter, shouldn’t you give them a chance, I asked. The trainer told me that they would like to introduce them, but the reasons they’ve been kept apart are the some of the same reasons that Makaio and Tilikum are never in the same pool.
Tilikum is really rough with little whales sometimes. He’s not normally with Trua, but I’ve seen him get agitated by Trua on occasion (sometimes he doesn’t want to swim or play tag i’d assume) and he’s a big boy. He’s never hurt Trua, but he could easily, and he has a history of getting rather rough with smaller whales. Makaio and Malia are both smaller than Trua, and they don’t want them getting hurt.
They don’t think it would happen, but they also don’t want to risk Malia and Tilikum mating. Not only are they obviously related, but she’s too young. They keep them apart mostly for her safety.
So while I agree that it’s sad that they’re never in the same pool (believe me, I almost always feel bad for Malia) it’s not just because they’re being cruel. They’re making sure nothing happens to either of them.
Reblog every time.
Edit creds: @freedomforwhales Due to popular demand, BLACKFISH IS PLAYING AGAIN TONIGHT! HARRY STYLES IS TWEETING ABOUT THE COVE, I REPEAT, HARRY STYLES IS INVOLVED AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID I WANTED A FEW DAYS AGO.
I literally don’t care what you think of One Direction, but you cannot deny that their reach is incredible, tweeting about The Cove to 17 million+ followers is HUGE.
IT IS! I don't really like 1D, BUT WITH THAT MANY FOLLOWERS THIS IS BIG!
Keiko at the under water wieving windows in his tank in Oregon.
Keiko lived at the Oregon Coast Aquarium from January 7, 1996 to September 9, 1998. While he lived there he was rehabilitated and prepared for a life back in the wild.
He’s too cute. I can’t cope with him, he’s so adorable!
Meet Yaka.
This female Orca was a Northern Resident that was captured from the wild for the entertainment industry in 1969. She was brought to Marine World Africa in California alongside another Orca named Nepo.
Yaka died at around 28-30 years of age, despite wild female counterparts living to be over 60, and up to even 100 years of age. She’s believed to be a part of the A5 pod, meaning she was a family member of Corky, who is still alive at Seaworld California.
Yaka is one of the forgotten faces of the captivity industry. She’s just a number. Wild captures not only decimate wild populations, but they also are extremely traumatic and captivity can dramatically shorten the life span of the animal due to the stresses of confinement.
Don’t let her death in this prison be forgotten, and don’t let more Orcas face the same fate. Fight for captivity to end, and boycott all marine parks housing captive dolphins and whales.
a dolphins smile is natures greatest deception; it creates an illusion that they are always happy.

"Jack has enjoyed a longtime association with SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, which includes exclusive national sponsorship of his television show and several personal appearances a year at the parks.”
(from the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund site)
Man, I wonder why Jack Hanna was twisting reality so hard to defend Seaworld last night during CNN’s discussion segments on Blackfish.
He was also the guy in the pre-show video back when Seaworld’s orca show was “The Shamu Adventure.” His claiming that he isn’t affiliated with Seaworld last night when the debate started is just a straight up lie.
But then again, when has anyone in the marine park industry told the truth when asked about the morals of what they’re doing?
Joke Hanna
I used to watch (and still have the tapes)
Jack Hannah’s Animal Adventures when I was a kid. One episode had him visiting a Seaworld Facility where they focused on Belugas. Can’t remember the episode name. Anyway, this is the same man who, during an interview just a few months after Ms. Brancheau’s death, openly slandered SeaWorld and it’s practices over the news. And then if I recall, he was in Lolita: Slave to Entertainment, talking about how she was being worked to death. Oh, this shit is amazing right up in here. Pick a damn chair and sit on it, Hannah. And stay there. You can’t play both flutes without messing up.
