Villager Care 101

Dearest Mushy,

It has been only one day since I have undertaken the fulfilling yet burdensome task of rebuilding and modifying a village, to give the villagers proper living arrangements. I have plans to expand into building a school and several other businesses along with residential abodes.

I have completed one home and only one home (both with upstairs and downstairs with furnishings included) and now my bones scream for reprieve, and my mind is becoming foggy as exhaustion is setting in. I do not know how I will go on, but I shall find a way, or I shall make one.

May Mojang be merciful on my aging laptop.

The work of a hero is kind yet challenging. Although you may make brick, build walls, and destroy with your bare hands, you're still human, and henceforth prone to exhaustion.

I understand houses can be big projects, so, if you are happy to build shelter for your villagers but overwhelmed by bigger builds, I suggest making small huts in the meanwhile and building up til you are more comfortable!

I've attached houses I often copy for more casual moments. Simple and cheap, but still very good for our large-nosed friends!

Keep going, hero! As long as you are having fun, the villagers are having fun! I am sure that even though it is little, The villagers will love your efforts all the same!

Remember to take breaks so you may not burn out from your beloved village! time does not pass while you are out so they will not notice a difference!

It's always sweet to see villagers interacting with stray cats. It's so interesting how a skittish cat can be so relaxed around villagers, while it's totally spooked by me. It might have to do with my clunky armor actually 😅. Too much visual noise compared to villagers?

I try to befriend every cat that shows up in a village but not make every one a pet. Although I've made a few pets and put their beds at the entrance of the village wall/near the gates to help keep creepers from following me inside.

Villagers are VEGETARIAN!

They trade for meat/fish but don't eat it!

Feeding them an omnivore diet is unethical and will not lead to breeding. Usually consuming meat makes them I'll and sluggish.

Reminder that having 3 bread, 12 carrots, 12 potatoes, or 12 beetroots is enough for breeding.

Personally I prefer using potatoes to encourage breeding, since also enjoy cooked potatoes and potatoes multiply like crazy. But I do feed them a varied diet and often allow the farmers in the village to naturally farm carrots or wheat.

Villagers of all varient are SOCIAL creatures!!! They need other villagers around (atleast one) otherwise they will get depressed!!! I hate seeing those little one by three prisons people keep their villagers in. No one to socialize with. No room to roam.

Even the Wandering Trader varient needs an animal to bond with, llamas are it's preferred bonding species but will also be happy with donkeys and mules.

Even Iron Golems (while not a species of Villager, I still have quite a bit of knowledge on them due to how common they are around large Villager numbers) are relatively social creatures, although it can be ethical to keep them alone as long as you're prepared to be the one they bond with/become protective of.

Wandering Trader varient villagers need to be put on a lead and walked *everyday*. They naturally roam far and wide to collect their items for trade, and are the most active and adventurous of the Villager types. People get them because they think they're cool and unique and then don't realize the effort required to keep them healthy and happy.

It's a good idea to leave flowers, dye, ice blocks, and living coral blocks floating around on the path you plan to take with your wandering villager so they can naturally collect these items.

I made a blog because I really see people mistreating their pet villagers! I want to help people understand the species better and help teach better care for them :)
