I’ll never forget when I was in nursing school and one of the patients’ family member overheard me say that I was too broke to buy lunch.

This lady slid me a ten dollar bill and got mad when I said I couldn’t take it. She said “Don’t block my blessings, especially if I’m trying to help you. GO EAT”.

Never declined a single dollar, gift or a favor since then. Fuck that.

Last time I accepted something from a patients family was like two years ago. Just got finished treating his moms and he was like hey I JUST got jerk chicken, you have it. I was hesitant at first but then I realized hey you don’t deny gifts when someone does it unprovoked like that. So I accepted and we sat there and talked while I ate and he vented till he was done. Up until the I didn’t think anyone in the city was that nice but he made me remember why I was there in the first place
