The one where both reader and Riki are devastated after the news of March 10th.
warnings: use of Riki and Ki as a nickname, reader and Ni-ki are in long distance relationship, no use of y/n, crying, Ni-ki is a softie, mentions of Heeseung, angst but not really gut-wrenching, shitty english, hurt/comfort ig, beginner level writing fr, there may be some grammar/vocab mistakes, sorry!
notes: current situation pushed me to start writing things, and well, posting things too, till now I only posted stuff on wattpad in my native language so it's a little different hehe, feel free to kindly give me any advice on what I can do to write better but please don't be rude with it <3 also, yes, I'm and I will be ot7 so if you are not, then please don't leave unecessary comments, thank you! also it's quite short but I hope you'll enjoy it

"Incoming video call from Ki" her screen lit up once again, probably for the 100th time today. But she didn't dare to pick up, not right now when her heart was broken into a million pieces. She lied on her bed curled into a ball and sobbed quietly. It's been 10 hours since the announcement that destroyed all engenes around the world was released. She tried to be strong, she tried to motivate other fans to do something about it. She acted like a mother figure, comforting whoever she stumbled upon on her Twitter timeline, but no one was there to comfort her, or maybe there was.
Her boyfriend has been calling and texting her since 7 am, even though it's the middle of the night for him. He knew that all engenes were stunned by the news, damn it, he was too. He was mad he couldn't go out there and comfort each and every engene and tell them it will be okay. But he could be there for his girlfriend, the most important engene in his life, and he felt so helpless when once again his messages were left on read.
'It will be okay trust me please'
'you know you can always talk to me right?'
He stared blankly at the wall. Heeseung left the dorm yesterday, saying he was visiting his family. They didn't question it. Each and every one of them wanted to go home and get their well-deserved rest. Since the news dropped, they couldn't contact Heeseung, as if he had vanished into thin air. Every member was confused, some were angry, some were just sad. Riki felt everything at once. Locked himself in the room for the time being. He always hid his emotions so well. Years of being in the cruelest industry in the world took a toll on him. Even though he may look nonchalant and heartless, he is soft. So soft that each passing minute without an answer broke him. It's like the whole world was against him right now and his only saviour was deliberately avoiding him.
By the time she picked herself up, the tears started to dry on her cheeks. The sun was setting and the room got even darker and gloomier. This time, when her phone quietly buzzed, she reached for it and unlocked it. With shaking fingers she typed:
The very next second his message came in.
'do u want to talk about it?'
'do u just want to talk? about whatever?'
She propped her phone up against the wall as she sat by the desk and started a video call. After two beeps, the call was answered. Riki was looking at her, his hair mischeveled, face a little puffier than usual. She didn't look any better.
They were quiet for a while, just being there, not really sure what is the best thing to say in a situation like this.
'Why?' she broke the silence with a question neither of them knew the answer to.
He was silent for a second, covering his face with his hands.
'I-i-we don't know' he muttered.
'But, he will come back? It's just a group hallucination, no, it's a prank, right?' her voice cracked as tears welled up in her eyes again.
'I... ' he started, but his lips started to tremble. He couldn't stop it anymore. He had to be strong, for his hyungs, for Heeseung, for her...
'Hey, Ki, don't cry, please. You'll make me cry even more' she attempted to light up the atmosphere. It, obviously, didn't work since she was fighting the tears herself.
The silence fell between them once again, but this time there was some comfort to it. The only thing that could be heard was their soft sobbing and quiet gasps as they tried to slow down their breath. It felt personal, it felt way too real. They never opened up to themselves like this before. This was the closest their long-distance relationship had ever let them feel. If any of them had doubts up to this point, whether this relation was something real, they were now long gone and buried somewhere far, far away.
'Shit, didn't mean to, you know' he sniffled 'Break down like this' and whispered as he wiped his eyes with the sleeve of his hoodie.
'Yeah' she blinked frantically to dry off the tears 'Me too'
'Let's keep it a secret, okay?' Riki mumbled
