Conrad Veidt

Hans Walter Conrad Veidt (22 January 1893 – 3 April 1943) was a German actor best remembered for his roles in films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), The Man Who Laughs (1928), The Thief of Bagdad (1940) and Casablanca (1942). After a successful career in German silent film, where he was one of the best paid stars of Ufa, he left Germany in 1933 with his new Jewish wife after the Nazis came to power. They settled in the United Kingdom, where he participated in a number of films before emigrating to the United States around 1941. From 1916 until his death, Veidt appeared in well over 100 films. One of his earliest performances was as the murderous somnambulist Cesare in director Robert Wiene’s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), a classic of German Expressionist cinema, with Werner Krauss and Lil Dagover. […] Finally in 1943 Veidt was once again allowed to play a good guy, a leader of the German resistance in Above Suspicion with Joan Crawford and Fred MacMurray. Sadly, it was to be Veidt’s last role. Shortly after shooting had been completed, Conrad Veidt died suddenly on a Hollywood golf course, the victim of a heart attack. He was only fifty years old. After starring in Jew Süss and stepping off German soil forever in 1933, Veidt was declared persona non grata in his home country. No official announcement was made there of his death. So excited that we got to build our Haunted Mansion inspired Halloween town pumpkin hill Christmas tree! We originally got the idea from The Hollywood Haunter on YouTube! We took apart two trees to form this guy!

Nightmarw before Christmas is my favorite film. So it’s nice to have a piece of Halloween Town right in my home!

Lestat Update:

I made a custom Lestat 1/6 doll from the film INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE. I found a blank resin tom cruise head, painted it and made a wig/wig cap out of fur.

I added a curl activating gel, to bring out the wave in the fur. And used some light heat, to remove some of the volume on the sides of the wig. So that it would look more natural.

For the clothing, I used Gaston’s outfit from the 2017 live action Beauty and the Beast doll line. The set came with an amazing ruffled shirt that was exactly what I was looking for. But unfortunately Gaston’s vest was a light beige, the color did not suit the brat prince. So I dyed the vest blue using fabric markers. I hand embroidered a gold baroque pattern on to the vest so it would be more ornate. I mean Lestat is a french nobleman after all. I then ordered napoleon era shoes and socks. I rolled up the bottoms of Gaston’s full pants, turning them into pantaloons, tucking in his socks. They fit perfectly.

It was hard to find any doll clothing from that era, so I had a lot of tailoring to do.

I’ve ordered a doll piano and new hands that are smaller.

This is the first doll I have ever worked on, and I will say I am pretty impressed with my first attempt. I hope Anne Rice would be proud!
