I do think I could still be counted as a hermit if I spend time with only you. Which, I do tend to do, since you are by far my favorite person.

I seriously could not be more of a hermit if I lived in a shack in the woods. Hermiting in paradise is a rather ridiculous notion. It should end now, while there are holidays to be enjoyed.

I don’t think so. I take lots of pictures with the observatory telescope, but the conjunction is something that you can view without going to the observatory and I don’t have the right sort of camera to take a nice photo.

Dear Cassidy –

I hope this gets there in time for your birthday, but if it doesn’t, I’m sorry.  I don’t get to go down to the post office much, there’s a lot to do around the farm and Jason stays really busy at work.  I swear, the more often I go to the feed store, the more animals I wind up bringing home to take care of.  Hamlet is our newest addition, I’m sending a picture because he’s too cute not to share with you.  But things are so good, I’m so happy here, Cassidy.  And I hope you’re happy at Orenda and I’m sure you and Jared are going to claim soon.  You guys should definitely come visit when you do, okay?  I’m even half-decent at cooking now, I’ll make you something really special.  But this is a little constellation lamp globe … thing.  I’m sure you get to go out to see them all the time but for when it’s raining and you can’t, you can still have a little bit of the sky and maybe even think of me sometimes.  I know I do when I go out at night.  But I really hope you had a special birthday and I love and miss you, okay?  You’re still my best friend, even if it’s been a while.

Cassidy didn’t think he was supposed to be crying, but he couldn’t seem to stop so hoped it was an okay way to react. His hands shook as he read the note. He’d worked very hard not to think about how much he miss people -- his parents, all his friends who’d left, but the tremor in his hands made him realize he wasn’t doing a very good job. Everyone who’d left said they’d miss him, said they’d stay in touch, but Isabel was the first person he’d heard from. Swiping at his eyes he shook his head. ‘No no no,’ he told himself. He wouldn’t be sad and let his feelings ruin Isabel’s wonderful present. Sitting at his desk he started to to write a thank you note with lots of reminders about how much he loves her and how wonderful his present is. He’d be sure to check the address three times to make sure it didn’t get lost in the mail the way his letters to his parents always did.

Huh.  Well, as far as I can tell, self confidence comes from knowing that I can solve the problems I’m likely to come across.  I know my own abilities.  So not much frightens me.  Although not giving a shit is a big part of it.  Things don’t frighten you when you just don’t care about them.

Oh. Well I’m good at solving problems, but what about problems that aren’t solvable? What if you trip and fall and get hurt? Or, even worse, what if you friend slips and falls and gets hurt? How do you solve that problem?

I think I’d rather be scared than not care, Sir. Don’t you get lonely?
