Day 5 - Carmilla fanfiction based on fanart
Could’ve been based on many because it is generic Hollstein at Hogwarts and I’m so unhappy with it but I really want to contribute to the challenge.
Laura groaned, clinging to the bannister of the staircase as it chose to move just as she was getting close to being on time to her potions class.
“Where’s the fire, cupcake?” She heard a chuckle from the bottom of the staircase, which had just settled. And now Laura didn’t know where she was, except next to Carmilla, who seemed to find her predicament extremely amusing, judging from the smirk on her face. Laura huffed in response, and made to storm away, hoping to regain her bearings at some point. However, she didn’t manage to take a step before Carmilla caught her arm.
“Hey,” Carmilla’s eyes glinted mischeviously. “You know, you’ll only get in trouble for turning up late if you actually turn up late.”
Laura raised her eyebrows, unimpressed. “Do you have a time turner?”
Carmilla smirked. “I was thinking more along the lines of ‘just don’t go.’” She laughed at the look of horror on the Hufflepuff’s face, grabbing her hand to pull her towards another staircase.
“Woah, Carm, what are you doing?” Laura stopped, pulling Carmilla to a halt as they reached the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
“C’mon, you think I’d get you into trouble?”
“Well… yeah!” Laura exclaimed, causing a grin to spread across Carmilla’s face.
“Don’t worry, we’re not going in too far.” Carmilla smiled encouragingly, starting to walk Laura slowly towards the forest again. “You’ll like it. I promise.”
“Like what?” Laura asked, but Carmilla only held a finger to her lips.
She held a tree branch aside for Laura to pass, then pointed wordlessly towards a clearing.
Laura looked at her enquiringly, edging towards the opening in the trees. Carmilla nodded encouragingly, “Go slow.”
Laura peered in suspiciously, her breath leaving her when she saw the family of unicorns gathered inside. Carmilla ushered her inside, lurking behind a tree as she watched the creatures notice Laura. They slowly approached allowing her to reach out and touch them; Carmilla smiled at the childlike wonder in her eyes.
“I know a lot of things.” Carmilla replied, enjoying the view of the girl beside her who looked positively enchanted. “I could show you more sometime. If you like.”
Laura dawdled alongside Perry and Lafontaine, fondly listening to them quarrel out the pro and cons of having a ghost as their History of Magic. God, it was like they were married.
Her adventure the week before hadn’t left her mind, though she hadn’t spoken a word of it to anyone. And there was Carmilla leaning against a pillar, unmoving in the flurry of movement around her, absorbed in a book. Laura found herself dying to be next to her when her skirt suddenly flew up. Of course shed been too preoccupied to notice the first years Charms class exiting nearby. She tried to force it back down, when suddenly her skirt was obeying the laws of gravity again and the first year in question was hanging from the air by his ankle.
She turned to Perry and Lafontaine in confusion, but both of them seemed just as befuddled as her. She looked around for Kirsch or Danny, but they were nowhere to be seen either, leaving only… No, would she? Laura snuck a glance to Carmilla, who lifted her eyes from her book just in time to meet her gaze. She smiled for just a second, before returning to her book, leaving Laura embarrassed and with the realisation that she had the best crush ever.
She woke up in the night to a giant black cat, climbing up on to her bed. “Hey, kitty,” Laura cooed fondly, stroking the cat, focusing on the spot behind its ear the made it purr. Suddenly it jumped off her bed and ran from the room. “See ya, kitty.” She mumbled, her eyes closing sleepily.
She headed toward the Great Hall, a few minutes early for dinner, when she caught sight of Carmilla. God, she had her hair up and she looked like a daydream. Laura was so caught up it took her a moment to realise Carmilla was looking right at her.
“Ready for another adventure, cupcake?”
And god, how could Laura say anything but yes to that face? She felt like she was being swept away into a fantasy as Carmilla took hold of her hand and began to run with her back up the stairs - a fantasy that was turning to a nightmare as they reached the fourth flight.
“Come on creampuff, aren’t you used to these staircases by now?” Carmilla teased.
“Not with so much running,” Laura replied between breaths, thankful for the slowing of their pace.
“We’re almost there,” Carmilla smiled looking almost elated. “I found this so long ago. I’ve always wanted to show someone but I’ve never…” She trailed off, an Laura could see that she was trying to cover up her excitement. She was like a kid on Christmas.
“Okay, close your eyes.” She told Laura, coming to a stop in front of… A blank wall?
“Why?” Laura asked warily.
“I just need to get the door open. Okay, cupcake?” Carmilla smiled, and Laura knew she could never say no. She was aware of Carmilla walking up and down in front of her, and as she was pretty sure that wasn’t involved in opening in a door, she opened her mouth to ask, but then Carmilla’s hands covered her eyes as she started to lead her forward. When her eyes were uncovered, her mouth fell open in surprise. They were literally just on the fifth floor, and suddenly they were outside. Looking up at the starlit sky. Was it even dark out?
She looked at Carmilla, and caught the tail end of what looked like - to Laura’s crush stricken heart - adoration, before Carmilla recomposed herself into her usual unreadable expression.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” She asked. Laura could only nod in agreement.
“Carmilla, I got them!” Laura called, haphazardly carrying the two butterbeers to their table in a way that made Carmilla wonder in she’d somehow accidentally consumed firewhisky.
Laura placed them gently on the table, and plopped herself down next to her girlfriend. “Hey Carm?”
Carmilla raised an eyebrow in response, and Laura snuck in with a kiss to her cheek, earning herself a small smile.
