they were in their hotel room, lilly’s blood mostly on the floor of the bathroom. her husband finishing the last of her stitches on her back, having finished the scars on the front of her body earlier in the night. she didn’t like being wrong and that’s exactly what happened. cursing herself over and over in her head as to why she didn’t know it was a trap. she was more angry at herself than her enemies.

when spencer cut the last of the remaining thread, he went over to the shower and started it the tub immediately started to fill. he could always make her smile, even if she was in the worst mood, and that’s what he did when he cupped her cheek with his hand reassuring her this would never happen again.

she placed her own hand on top of his, ‘ and i know you’ll always protect me. ‘ there was a beat before her tone changed into playful. ‘ i want you in this bath with me. ‘

if anyone else had said that before him, lilly would’ve punched them in the face for being a walking red flag. but when spencer said it, a warm feeling of euphoria ran through her body. having this type of connection was everything she’d ever hoped for, even more so that it was with spencer.

both of them sat on the back of the ambulance, lilly’s wounds were much less serious than spencer’s beaten lip and bruised eye. if being at gunpoint tonight taught her anything, is that a little trust in her team can go a long way, especially with spencer.

never trust them, you’re there to do a job not make connections. her uncle’s words rang in her ears yet their cases so far were not what she expected. they trust their lives with each other and tonight she had to do exactly that but never wanted to.

[ TWENTY-THREE ] sender is in a vengeful rage because of something that happened to receiver. receiver gently approaches to calm them down saying this isn’t what they want. ( from bucky , for natasha )

it wasn’t that she was unprepared, it was that there were twice as many mercenaries than she was expecting. she woke up on the floor from a haze, taking a couple of seconds until her eyes focused to try and sit up. she heard distant crashing and grunting coming from the other side of the room. she felt warm blood coming down the side of her face when she saw james in focus finishing her enemies off. every one of them bloodied and not moving.

standing up, she knew she had a concussion but her primary focus was james’ mental state. he was covered in blood and it took her coming over to where he was and laying her hands on his back for him to pause the beating he was doing.
