Thanks for sharing these 🙏 I read The Transfeminist Manifesto a while ago, but reading snippets of it again now it's really interesting to see Koyama hinting at a theory that's basically the opposite of the one Serano would later propose. Koyama also believes in one form of oppression for gender deviance (i.e. what Serano would call "oppositional sexism"), and a separate one for misogyny/"traditional sexism", but Koyama believes "misogyny" is really a kind of "AFAB" oppression not tied to gender roles, identity or expression, while Serano considers it to be the denigration of "femaleness and femininity" not tied to birth assignment.

The upshot is that Koyama thinks trans women are affected purely by transphobia/"oppositional sexism", while trans men are uniquely affected by the intersection of transphobia and misogyny, the exact opposite of how we generally think of things today. It strange to imagine that she could easily have come up with a word like "trans-misogyny" to refer to the intersection, except used it to refer to trans men's oppression. The way she talks about trans women's lives as "a dynamic interaction between male privilege and the disadvantage of being trans" is exactly the kind of thing we'd say today about trans men.

Obviously Koyama's theory is empirically proved wrong and Serano's proved right by actual data e.g. gender pay gap statistics, but I hadn't realised how so-close-yet-so-far Koyama came to a decent theory, except her own bigotry prevented her from seeing it.

Omg, I used to be a big admirer of Eli Erlick like 5 years ago when I was still on Twitter. That infographic, though... I looked into it and it seems it was made by two cis women who volunteered for the San Diego State University Women's Resource Center. The same two people (ironically) made an infographic using Serano's definition of the intersectional oppression of "transwomen" as a dual oppression for being women and being trans (without mentioning Serano 🤷). But they also said non-binary people face the same dual oppression for being women and being non-binary... Being kinda familiar with this type of cis woman activist, I can guess who they mean by that and I don't think it's those we would call transmisogynised non-binary women lol.

Looking at that infographic is giving me flashbacks to having to gently point out factual errors and bigotry in infographics to the non-transfem volunteers who insist on making them (despite no one else wanting them), and then them being sulky because they "did all the work" and "all you did was criticise it". Is there a name for the activism that consists in doing nothing material but purely in making infographics about things you don't understand (and have no interest in spending some time learning about before speaking), and then feeling aggrieved because it took you a long time and no one is sufficiently grateful? I feel like it's an increasingly big issue I'm running up against.
