Hey a Deaf person here. FYI several states have their own visor cards that you can get for FREE.

Contact National Association of the Deaf (NAD) to see what local association is in your state and contact them. Honestly I have never heard of (excuse the pun) that place that sells the visor card. So it’s better to go thru NAD.

For Ontario, I’ve designed the visor card for Ontario Association of the Deaf along with Ontario Provincial Police so they’re aware of this visor card! Trainings for Ontario Police is underway. You can find the visor card at here: https://www.deafontario.ca/2018/06/07/visor-card-print-at-home/

I’m biased but I like the design we used because it includes various communication methods that ppl can point to. 😁

During the holidays break, I redid this art I made in 1999 when I was 9. This was still fun to do 20 years later! (and who knew I'd end up having a black cat that's basically a panther. makes for a great reference picture!)

Drag Queens x3! This is American Sign Language (ASL) for Drag Queens. It represents big wigs that Drag Queens usually wear. Yes, of course the sign for Drag Queen has to be fabulous! Admittedly, this is quite tricky to draw. Please be aware that 2D illustrations of signs are not always a totally accurate representation of a 3D language. hello!! ive been following you for a while now & i love your art!!! :D i have an asl question: im a nonbinary interpreting student that uses they/them pronouns. have you ever encountered a way to convey "pronouns" during introductions without spelling it out? i know pronouns arent used in asl, but i still get misgendered by people using feminine signs when referring to me. would signing "man-woman-not" be confusing? thank you!!!!!!💕💕

Hey thanks! I do spell out ‘they/them’. If they don’t understand, I explain that I am “not man and woman” and “g-e-n-d-e-r neutral”

idk if you've seen it, but @aroace-venue has a post (post/187335800833/ace-and-aro-asl) with an question for Deaf aros, aces, etc. about whether some a-spec terms are still just fingerspelled or if there are some signs coming into being to replace fingerspelling (example of a long word to fingerspell in the post - amatonormativity). i wasn't sure if you maybe knew or could signal boost?

Pansexual in American Sign Language (ASL) with Pansexual pride flag color. This sign's movement is similar to movement of sign for 'soul' but with handshape that's used in sign for heart. Basically, it translates to love one's soul. I am pansexual and I really love that sign!

Hey there! I'm completely hearing, but I want to become fluent in ASL. I've been taking a beginner's class now and got visibility on the deaf community for the first time in my life. I actually have 3 questions: 1) What would be the best way to enhance my ASL skills other than classes? 2) Are there groups or forums I could join to talk with more deaf people and get to know the culture better? And, unrelated; 3) How do you feel about a hearing person songsigning?

1) Volunteer at local deaf organizations. Watch ASL videos. 2) Facebook has a lot of great ASL groups. Also you can follow some tags on social media like #deaftalent to meet neat deaf people. 3) I’m fine if you do it for fun. But some has tried to make money off it and that’s a big no no. It’s deaf people who should be hired for signing songs and we have a lot of amazing singers.

I hope this is fine to ask, but I've been learning ASL at my college for the past like 2 months (I'm a beginner, obviously) and my professor told me that I'll have to eventually volunteer at deaf events/go to deaf events/speak to deaf people even if I don't know them which is my worst nightmare as I don't sign very well yet and have anxiety. Obviously you can't speak for every deaf/HOH person out there, but how would you recommend I approach those situations?

Hey! I’d suggest you to volunteer. You can stay busy and at the same time get some practice in conversation. :) A lot of local deaf organizations are understaffed and lack enough resources so volunteering is great!

Hi I think I asked this before but it was so long ago and I can't find it on my blog anymore, but I work as a cashier and we have about 5 regular customers who are completely or partially deaf. They are so sweet and nice and I'd love to actually tell them to have a good day. I also am autistic and tend to always want to fiddle around and move my hands. So I thought sign language would be a good thing to learn anyway! Do you have any sources for beginners? I try searching but there's so much!

Hey! You can check out the ASL app. It’s created by deafies. Also, lifeprint.com has great ASL dictionary. If you’re interested in keeping learning I’d highly recommend you taking ASL classes (best if the professor is deaf themselves). Have fun!
