something that kills me about many of the activists against the construction of mega data centers is that some of them are the same people who think the United States needs more nuclear power plants... no offense but, if you think the environmental impacts and land theft involved in data center construction is bad, wait until you learn about uranium mining and how we "get rid of" nuclear waste

My best friend is in the hospital finally being treated for some life-threatening conditions, that were ignored for years while they were institutionalised. The first hospital wanted to just institutionalise them again, rather than figure out what's wrong. My friend might've died if that happened. Psychiatry fucking kills people, and my friend is only alive because they got lucky. No one will face any consequences for the way my friend has been treated, and they'll be allowed to continue doing this to people.

It's genuinely so dangerous how many psychiatrized people face medical neglect due to the automatic assumption that any complaint of ours must be "all in our heads." Your friend deteriorating for years without treatment to the point of almost dying is literally evil and I hate that no one's being held responsible for not taking them seriously in time.

a specific type of suicidism that i haven’t seen anyone talk about yet is that suicidal people are unable to talk about their experiences, unfiltered, in mainstream online spaces. you look up the word “suicide” on any social media and you get a pseudo-nice message about how much the corporation really truly cares about you :(🫶

a few examples:

what this really is (allegedly) is a signal of not being liable should you die. connection, community, etc. for suicidal people doesn’t matter because suicide is a no-no word for corporations. so instead of being able to talk about your experiences as someone who lives with suicidality, you’re either forced to use advertiser-friendly toddlerspeak (e.g. “sewer slide”) costing you your dignity, or you get hotlines shoveled your way - hotlines that can call the police on you if you are too candid about your suicidal experience.

TL;DR: being a suicidal person violates community guidelines.

Now that the Flotilla members have been released and with those photos of brutal physical abuse and sexual assault, can we admit that there is no line they wouldn't cross. Let's be serious the israelis know that even attacking the "untouchable" ie people with european and american passports won't cut off the aid they get from the very countries the members come from. Its a message to peaceful advocates everywhere that they are not hesitant to treat you like palestinian prisoners. I said this before but there is no peaceful action or violent act that the israelis wont respond to with violence. And the israelis will respond to violence from Palestinians with incredible violence. But violence threatens them the most. When an iof soldier is killed, when a checkpoint is attacked, when a wall is breached after years of standing, it shows the holes in their power structure. It tells other palestinians that there are ways to hurt them, that they are not totally invincible. That is why they reacted to october 7th with horrific violence bc palestinians everywhere learned that a multi biilion dollar wall with latest technology can be breached with less. This is why standing with palestinians that raise guns and trying to meet them where they are is important. We wont ever raise an army equal to them, but we dont need to. Empires have come down with less. The FLN was almost completely disarmed and imprisoned in Algeria but France left only a few years later to a renewed rebellion.The French didn't leave bc their people "got tired of the war," their people got tired bc it was clear to them that the indigenous will always fight and their colony will never be secure. The US dropped millions of napalm bombs on Vietnam and left but they could have continued. These empires have the money and the weaponry but when they realize that no weapon will give them total control, then their effort will be abandoned. But under the oppressed who love their land, there will be traitors but there will always be those fighting no matter the cost. That is the difference and that is why armed resistance matters more than boycotts and more than flotillas. If there is no palestinian with a weapon, then there is no threat to israeli power

The very concept of 'voluntary' psychiatric hospitalization is so absurd and laughable to me. No one who has ever been subjected to psychiatric confinement has ever been fully informed of the kind of treatment they will receive in the psych ward. Informed consent does not exist in psychiatry.

You may naïvely go in as a 'voluntary' psych patient believing that psychiatric hospital staff are acting in your self-interest only to emerge finally realizing that their only job is to prevent you from having any human dignity or bodily autonomy whatsoever.

my first hospitalization asked me to sign a form for voluntary hospitalization during intake. actually, they put a clipboard and pen into my hands and told me to sign, and i had to ask what it was i was signing. they did not explain anything. told me that on average people who don’t sign the form have longer stays. i signed it.

at the hospital i tried to determine what i had signed. i was told the state is legally allowed to hold you for up to 72 hours, and signing makes it easier to do their job and get you out when you’re ready to leave. i asked if that meant being on voluntary status means i can leave at will. the answer was no. i asked if i would be able to leave at will if i hadn’t signed the form. the answer was no. i was discharged after seven days, believing the form was essentially meaningless but very confused about that reality.

my understanding now is that refusing the form means you get a court date, where a lawyer will argue before a judge that you are not a danger to yourself or others, and the judge will determine your freedom. signing the form is waiving your right to that lawyer. i guess insurance cares too in some circumstances but that’s another can of worms.

i was told i would be hospitalized for 5 days and it was 15, i was considered a dangerous patient and then they just handwaved that. they gave me antianxiety / depression meds that wouldnt start working for a month at regular dose (and only gave me 1/4 the regular dose), along with antipsychotics (something i didnt need, but couldnt not take). i was told we met with a therapist everday, i met with my therapist 3 times the entire time, and the first time was during admission to sign paperwork. i was told id meet with my doctor 3/week, met with him once the first week and then when he discharged me. there was a riot in the wing for dangerous patients and the entire facility was on lockdown, we received no medicine or information during this 6 hour period. one of the people in my wing was a prolific sexual predator who was not in the dangerous patients wing, we were not disclosed of this fact, and when they began sexually harassing a minor (when said minor should have been in the adolsecent patients wing, but for some reason was in ours) they transferred the adolescent patient instead of the offender.

of the 20+ psych professionals i met during that time, only 1 treated me like an actual human being, and his kindness (giving me crayons) got us both in trouble.

no part of the process made me heal faster, get better, or feel better. and no part of the process was voluntary, every step of the way i was coerced into following the ever-changing orders of our facility.

the first time we did art therapy i made a collage i was proud of. we only did art therapy 3 times, but the third time was a repeat of the 1st time (because the facility was only supposed to keep patients for 1 week at a time). i was in therapy with the therapist that i almost never saw during that time, and after that was done, i had less than 5 minutes to attend. when i tried to re-submit my collage, she rejected it and marked me as "non-compliant" bc i didn't do the activity. i lost my privlidges to go to the cafeteria for this.

i will say they did let me play a lot of folk punk there, so it wasnt a complete bust

Israeli attacks exposed his mother to toxic gasses while she was pregnant with Ahmed, and he was born with a disorder that affects the growth of his teeth.
