“What seems to be the matter?”
❝Not a thing, Your Majesty. Everything is absolutely perfect. What has given you the impression that something was wrong?❞
la-duchessina:
“Kind? I’m not certain I agree. I merely have a concern for the common people that is quite natural for someone meant to rule over some of them, as I am.” She turned her stern gaze to the troublemaking lady. “I can’t IMAGINE what it would be like, should royalty cease to have a care for people, can you?”
❝I can’t fathom it at all.❞ She said, a smirk tugging on her lips. ❝But there’s no denying that that was an act of kindness, Lady Medici. It is one thing to acknowledge a servant’s foolish mistake, and another to help them.❞ Gingerly stepping over the spill of wine that seemed to be spreading her way, Carolena looked past the dark haired woman’s shoulder. ❝I hope she intends to come back, someone really should clean this up. Perhaps you would like to help her with that, too.❞
la-duchessina:
As Grand Duchess of Tuscany, Eleanor was far too well bred to actually glare at the woman. Rather, she bent to help up the girl on the floor, whispering assurances that everything was fine. Straightening, she turned back to the woman responsible.
“A pity,” said Eleanor in a slightly frosty tone, “that you were so close to that…. accident. There appears to be a splash of wine on your skirt.” She’d wanted to simply sail away and allow the other woman to look like a messy fool, but in the end decided to be courteous… mostly.
Carolena’s face reddened in a moment of weakness as she looked down at the wine on her skirt. Quickly fixing herself, she flashed a sickeningly sweet smile at the duchess. ❝I do hope she’s alright. What an embarrassing accident.❞ The princess watched with mock concern as the servant girl walked by, head held low. ❝You’re very kind for helping her.❞
The poor passing servant girl didn’t know what hit her. Carolena stepped on the young girl’s skirts, sending her, and the tray full of deep red wine, falling to the floor with a thud and a clang. ❝Servants, they can’t do a thing right, can they?❞ Carolena asked with mock innocence, turning to the person beside her.
