It's 8pm and I suddenly desperately want to try making a milkshake, so, uh...off to the store?

Just because I like to imagine the confusion it would cause : Daemon, Jon, Rhaegar and their dragons get transported just in time to save Aemon, so there are now two Caraxes flying around. Poor Aemon think he is seeing double.

Now I'm imagining the Caraxes exchanging notes about their riders. Our Caraxes telling younger Caraxes horror stories about dealing with Daemon as a rider, and the constant stress of spending a decade in a warzone with your rider practically trying to get himself taken out by the terrible iron-tipped sticks that the enemy fires.

Younger Caraxes is more upset to learn that he fails his rider and loses him that way. To him, Daemon is just a cute little accessory that Aemon occasionally brings along on a dragon ride.

How, uh, do we think Daemon breaks it to Aemon that Jaehaerys passes his daughter's line over for Baelon's? Or that Baelon never even ascends the throne, because he too dies young(ish)? HOW HAPPY IS DAEMON TO SHOW BOTH OF THEM HIS SONS? (And how ready to bitterly bitch about Jaehaerys forcing him into a marriage he didn't want, with Baelon not intervening.)

To say nothing of Jaehaerys discovering that Daemon's line has the prophecy vibes. If Rhaenys weren't already pregnant with Corlys's baby, how fast would he have betrothed her to younger Daemon to solve the thorny succession issue?

The ship is obviously Daemon x Suffering. The trope is… found family? In any case, happy Resonant buffering!

Daemon is really in his suffering era right now, isn't he? The poor man wants to burn the world, and Mellos keeps dosing him with dreamwine. (Just wait until he's back in the Stepstones without his babies, thinking about all the wasted years he could have been with them and worrying 24/7 about their safety while he deals with the more immediate Triarchy threat.)

Also RIP ambitious buffer goals. I ran into a hard wall at around 3800. I think I just need to set a more lax goal? When I get behind even a day, I want to "make it up" the next day, which doubles the pressure, which compounds until the impulse to give up wins. 500/day is probably the sweet spot, and was roughly what I was hitting until I encountered the "writing 5 different versions of the conversation" issue that blocked me.

That said, got a solid 500 in for today, and am feeling unblocked, so I'll probably remake my TrackBear project with the new goal tonight. And the temptation to post something (whatever the buffer size) for S3 release day is probably gonna win out!

@jubs here, today, to tell you about a feature we're building: Comments by author!

Comments (or replies) have been around for a while, but they have always been tucked away from your regular feed, and so we're working on a few ways to integrate them into the rest of our experience.

Soon, blogs will have a Comments tab alongside Posts, Likes, and Following. There, you will be able to see posts other people have been commenting on, and, more importantly, find your own comments! This was not possible before, except through notifications if someone engaged with your comment.

We're also working on a way to surface posts commented on by people you follow in your feeds. You will be able to find those in the For You tab, and later, alongside chronological posts in the Following tab.

So, how do you identify those posts in the feeds? 

Replied posts will show a small preview right there in your dashboard, before you click anything. 

This is not out yet, but soon! In the meantime, tell us what you think and expect from this! ☺︎

Launch Day

First of all, thank you all for the feedback in the original post!

Today, we're launching the new "Comments" tab for Blog pages, and we'll be testing a For You recommendation based on comments from people you follow. The posts will have a preview of the reply, so you know why you're seeing that post.

You will be able to control the new tab visibility, and whether we should include your comments in your follower's feeds, through a new setting:

The toggle can be found on https://www.tumblr.com/settings/blog/YOUR_BLOG or in the General Settings > Replies section, on Mobile. If you have already disabled the "Share posts you like" setting, the setting will default to disabled.

The new tab is only available on Web and iOS (44.8+) for now, but the toggle is available to everyone (including on Android), so you can control what other people see on your blogs, even if you don't have the new feature yet. Don't worry, we have plans to implement the tab and posts on Android, soon!

We want to later include these replied posts to the Following feed as well, and we're planning on adapting the current "Include posts liked by the blogs you follow" toggle to also consider comments, in case you don't want to see shared comments from people you follow.

Here's the thing though: Daemon has basically convinced himself of his own Rhea cover story. He just. Internalized it as true. So it doesn't even really register as lying to him lol.

Going through and deleting old saved notes on my phone and found these three gems:

1 -- untitled note

Arthur, stop being so obvious. I love how loyal he is, ngl, best kingsguard. Princesguard!

Also love how protective Jon and Daemon are of Rhaegar, and how they match, lmao, AND how Arryk notes it and clearly enjoys the fact. They're so stinking cute.

- rhaenyra finds out daemon named rhaegar after her, awwwwwww

- laena proposing and daemon accepting; alternatively, laena proposing and jon & rhaegar accepting for him

- rhaegar has some sort of hair related disaster that results in tears and jon panics because rhaegar is crying and he doesn't know what to do and so he starts crying and daemon gets an urgent summoning from ser arryk and erryk because *the princes are crying*

- jon and rhaegar claim vermithor and silverwing au

- ser willam pov of finding out wtf is happening

- lord cox opening up a dragon themed attraction (tours and wheelbarrow rides incoming) in the saltpans in honor of prince jon and prince rhaegar's dragon hatchings

- "somebody" "accidentally" sets the bedroom on fire 🔥 😅 🐉

- smaller small council - first session! (debating jon's name, dessert at dinner, princesguard tourney ideas, brainstorming how to get viserys' head out of his butt, kid designed party for the adults, dealing with cole after an incident...?), or viserys being enthused, or the competition for who gets to be cupbearer

- anything with Oscar Tully in it 😂

- rhaegar being amazed at jon's (lack of) composure when it comes to girls flirting with him

Awww, Knight of Stars AU! It's fun having things a little further down the line (closer to six months since becoming a family), so dynamics are more comfortable and established, and Daemon and Jon get to enjoy being united on several fronts. I feel like a very fun thing to explore is the various ways pairs of them end up teaming up against the other. What sorts of issues do Daemon and Rhaegar connect on, to Jon's eternal dismay, for example.

And yes, Arthur stressing not about the matches, really, but whether he's right whether that is his Rhaegar, and does he notice him? Does he know it's him?

Some of (most of?) those prompts look familiar, so I think they've made it into prompt posts before! Eternal sadness that Tumblr doesn't let us search replies, there is SO MUCH good stuff in the replies. 😭 Love that you were so inspired by your own hair disaster prompt that you wrote your own fill! (And then inspired me to write the Daemon POV lol.)

Actually, we've hit a nontrivial number of these! Like Corlys + chocolate (Aemon's Sons AU), and Jon walking into a wall because he's distracted by Laena + Rhaegar being astonished at his lack of game (Veteran AU).

And lmao at you not ACTUALLY having written down ways for Crayne to die. I'm sure Daemon has his own list, and it's probably the most detailed and graphic of the people he views as having wronged him/his babies. That man is so lucky that both the Triarchy and Volantis/warlocks (and Viserys to a degree) are occupying Daemon's time and energy right now, because otherwise his sole mission in life would be to hunt Crayne down and murder him (slowly).

There was a thought-post about a winterfelled Daemon (turned female) with the twins, and how Cat thinks that fDaemon is Ned’s mistress/first love, and “she’s going to seduce Ned” and fDaemon gets so annoyed with Cat’s attitude, that they go “f-it I am going to seduce him”.

I’ve been thinking of that scenario, but wondering how different it would be if it was a winterfelled Rhaella, with a 17 year old Arthur.

Bobby and Co. mistake Arthur for Elder Jon’s twin, (Bobby makes jokes about how Ned’s woman always gives him twins, one that looks like her and one that looks like him). Jamie and Ser Barristan can be haunted, and everytime someone brings up Rhaegar, Ned and Rhaella make the excuse that it’s not Targaryen blood everyone sees it’s Dayne (Rhaegar got features from Dyanna Dayne.

I'm wondering if Rhaella would actually unintentionally succeed in seducing Ned and bring out Cat’s nightmares. Because

She knows how rare a good man like Ned is, and how good a life Cat has, and is unconsciously or consciously pissed that Cat’s acting the way she is. Plus how she treats Elder Jon.

How much do you think Ned would fall for Rhaella, he always seemed a little like Sansa, believing in chivalry, warning Cersei about his plans to tell Bobby about the kids in cannon. Rhaella is the ultimate damsel in distress, or would they just form a deep friendship because they are so alike, dutiful and quietly strong. How likely is it that everyone mistakes that friendship as a love affair.

How much would Rhaella’s presence haunt and hurt Ser B?

What chaos unleashes when the Daynes show up…fully in the know about Ned’s original lie, but playing along like….we’re just here to see family, yes Lady Stark, we will gladly take them home with us and any “pets” that are following them.

Believe it or not, Rhaella and Arthur showing up in some Restoration AU variant has come up before! IMO, Ned really can't get away with his cover story that he has in Restoration AU in this scenario. Like, at least Rhaegar is a 10-year-old (and sporting some extra DNA from House Royce and Daemon), so he's not immediately going to ping Robert's Rhaegar-dar, especially when smuggled into his worldview as a Ned-shaped thing.

Rhaella at 24ish, however, is much more like the adult Rhaella that Robert would have seen on multiple occasions. The Targaryen association would be immediate. And Arthur was a famous Kingsguard, his hated enemy's closest friend. You can bet that Robert remembers his face. The danger is less "Robert thinks these are those exact people" (though who knows if he's more open to the notion of magical shenanigans!), and more "Robert's gonna start thinking about Ned's/Jon's ties to House Targaryen."

House Dayne, meanwhile, is an interesting wrinkle I hadn't considered originally. My original thought was that with actual adults to supervise their wellbeing, Ned would send them + the kiddos (including W!Jon) to Howland Reed to hide them away. But the risk still exists that Robert will want to see them, so maybe it's simpler to send them instead south, to Dorne. They can go by boat to bypass the roads that Robert's taking, and it would be faster. House Dayne probably takes one look at their Arthur lookalike and wants keepsies, to say nothing of the goodwill it will foster with Dorne to present them with a gaggle of obvious Targaryens (probably with dragons, who would be following along).

And that assumes Rhaella doesn't have Vermithor! If Vermithor made the trip, then it could be Arthur + Rhaella + W!Jon on Vermithor, and the twins on their own drakes. That's also a very safe mode of travel, and one they can try to keep to mostly at night so as not to draw attention.

The hilarity comes later, when Daemon has to recalculate his worldview at the backward situation he's in, where Dorne is one of House Targaryen's most important allies.

As for the seduction side of things in a handwavy scenario where Rhaella is there (and Arthur isn't), I truly don't see Ned straying from Cat, and Rhaella has enough trauma around unwanted sex that I don't see her playing the seductress role, even at her most angry, unless it was an Aerys-type situation where literally her life or the life of her child(ren) are at risk.

You’ve mentioned that the Veteran Au is possibly the only one where Otto would throw in the metaphorical towel but something I’m curious about is if he’d start pushing for a marriage between Jace and Helaena?

Jace at this point isn’t betrothed and is relatively close to Helaena’s age and she’s the only “true” Valyrian available as the Iron Throne is almost certainly not looking towards Essos for Valyrian brides.

I imagine that if Vet!Jon and Laena have Baela and Rhaena that’s an easy shoe in but Otto even having thrown in the towel in regards to Aegon sitting on the throne has gotta try

It does seem like the natural path to assure that his family's blood continues within House Targaryen, but I feel like that's more of a secondary thing to him? Like, obviously, it does enhance House Hightower's prestige, but the whole appeal of Aegon-as-king was being the power behind the throne and the self-righteous aspect of "my grandsons are more worthy/godly than their whore of an elder sister."

Points against Jace: outside of his control/realm of influence, almost certainly a bastard (and we know the various opinions about the character of bastards), and grew up idolizing monsters like Daemon Targaryen.

Points for Jace: he is at least a firstborn son, which appeals to Otto's more conservative view of how inheritance ought to work, has a dragon, is somewhat civilized for a child of bastard blood.

I think Daemon's boogeyman status is almost elevated in this AU, especially with Volantis-raised Jon being a huge influence/power at court, so maybe Otto throws his efforts into trying to get his hooks into Jace instead? Helaena is a useful tool for that, naturally.

But yes, if Jon and Laena have some girl babies, he then has to overcome that hurdle. (A true nightmare: Daemon's and Jon's blood entering the main royal line!) And this assumes Otto escapes all of the upheaval of Jon's arrival with some power intact at court (and over Viserys) to even play a factor in royal politics!
