EASY WAY TO RECOGNIZE SCREAMERS

One type of screamer is the .swf screamer. It’s just a webpage with a demon picture flashing in different colors at a certain speed, but it can cause seizures because it has a loud screeching noise.

The way to see if a link is a screamer is to do this:

Hover over the link and look in the lower right-hand corner of your browser.

If, at the end of your url it says .swf, DO NOT CLICK THAT SHIT.

Dear Feminists,

Why are you never mad at the people who commit false rape allegations for making it so much harder for real victims to be believed?

In the Duke Lacrosse case the men who were falsely accused continued to get more death treats even after it was proven beyond a reasonable doubt they hadn’t raped anyone. Employers still wouldn’t hire them, their lives were still ruined. No one sent the women who caused it all death threats. No one refused to hire her. She is the only one who did anything wrong and the only one to not have to deal with her life being destroyed.

Dear Anti-Self-DX'ers

I am a self-diagnosed auttistic. I am not professionally diagnosed because:

1. I am a woman.

2. I am visually impaired.

3. The therapist I spoke to was only familiar with male autistics and attributed my symptoms to personality type and my impairment. I was too nervous to explain further.

4. There is no one in my state qualified to diagnose adults.

5. I am in grad school and have neither the time, money, or means to travel out of states for a diagnosis.

6. There is almost no research into the presentation of autism in visually impaired persons. There is one study which describes autistic symptoms as they manifest in non-verbal visually impaired individuals and relies on stereotypes, describing the person as withdrawn using others as tools, lacking empathy, no interest in others, etc. All other works focus on a need for more research.

So, anti-self-dx’ers, please tell me how I should see a doctor and what a horrible, deserving of hate person I am, given the current literal impossibility of my obtaining of a diagnosis, and the likelihood that I may never obtain one, as, even if I could find a doctor, in my state, capable of diagnosing a female adult—given the differences in symptom presentation between men and women—my visual impairment would keep me from being diagnosed. [The first part is sarcasm, which I’ve learned to use.]

You aren’t really deserving of hate–you’re deserving of an education. You can think that you have something all you want, but until a doctor diagnoses you, you can’t claim it. You can’t get any benefits or medication related to this autism that you claim you have. The likelihood that I’ll NEVER obtain one? Wow, you’re just full of sunshine.

After you graduate, I’m SURE you’ll figure out a way to get a real diagnosis. Because while being on Tumblr and talking about your self-dxes is pretty common, going out into the real world and explaining it won’t be the same. You have to be professionally diagnosed, end of story.

There are differences between how autism presents in males vs females, and I’ve seen people in psychiatry who still think it’s a male only thing, oddly enough.

However, as feels-by-the-foot already said, diagnosing yourself won’t actually do anything. You can say you believe you’re autistic, but the only thing that can do is create either a bias or understanding in the people around you.

I definitely encourage people to research, to study, to educate themselves, but to hold that thought that you might be wrong in mind. Leave room for that possibility, because if you aren’t autistic, if it’s something else, it would be less of a letdown. I’ve seen people who were dead set on a specific problem, and they had multiple psychiatrists tell them they had something else but they wouldn’t accept it.

And remember, a label won’t change who you are, and it may not even help with social interactions. I’ve found that there are plenty of people who refuse to accept it, deny it, or tell me I’m broken and need to be fixed. Or worse, get told I should have died as a child of cancer to spare my parents the misery of raising a stolen child. And so I only mention it if it’s absolutely necessary. The only thing that label can really do is get you services you need, and that only works if it comes from a professional.

Autistic people don't realise they are autistic until it is pointed out to them, so while you may have some sort of mental health stuff going on I really doubt it's autism if you were the first one to think you're autistic.

I want to applaud Ashley Williams, the #BlackLivesMatter protester who confronted Hillary Clinton and demanded an apology for Clinton’s use of “superpredators with no conscience and no empathy, who need to be brought to heel” when she used dog whistles to refer to Black youths as little more than animals, as she advocated for Bill Clinton’s notorious 3-Strikes crime bill (which disproportionately targeted and imprisoned Black people).

Clinton replied, “You know what? No one has ever asked me about this before. You’re the first one to ask me about it.”

Besides noting the obvious problem with Ms. Clinton apparently needing to be publicly prompted before it ever even occurred to her to apologize for saying something so casually racist, if there are people who have spoken to her about this, then I hope they feel sufficiently empowered to step forward and make Mrs. Clinton have to explain her obfuscation.

I find it very hard to believe that no one at all has ever spoken to her and never asked about this before.

And once again, all respect to Ms. Ashley Williams. Disruptive action protests take a lot more than planning and coordination - it also requires guts. I’m a soon to be 32 year old Black man who is an inch shy of 6 feet tall, tipping the scales at 185 pounds, and I seriously doubt that I would have had even half the courage needed to do what Ms. Williams so bravely did.

From Bree Newsome to Sandra Bland and beyond, my people are stepping up and speaking out, and I am so proud.

Homeless people get assaulted by the police

Homelessness is a huge problem for our society. There are so many people living on the streets it is hard not to notice. Everything can happen in life, the devil can take the wheel and your life can become a nightmare in a moment. These people have already experienced something like that and you know, life doesn’t get better and it doesn’t seem like it would for them. But they are here and they are human beings, who were someones sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, grandmothers and grandfathers… It not just that they don’t get any help from the government , it`s ordinary people shaming them and treating them like nothing, it`s the police , who just don’t care… We need a change.
