I really love your open world au and I REALLY wanna write a fanfic on it but the whole thing of "how they got there" is not really making sense to me and I wanna try and write accurate to the original artist of the world. If you can kinda give like an explanation of how the characters got to that point and how to world actually works that would be great. Not looking for anything too detailed, just a simple overview to understand it better lol

I left it a lil vague because the idea is still developing and I didn't want to lock myself down to specifics just yet- but here's what I'm pretty confident in so far:

-After episode 7 the AU diverges from canon. The cast plan to revolt against Caine and in their conspiring figure out that Kinger is one of the creators of the circus and has all of the powers that Caine has, and that it's likely that his mind has been altered so that he isn't lucid enough to use these powers.

-The cast devises a plan to return him to sanity. Not sure on the specifics of this yet. Caine discovers the plot partway through and goes apeshit, but is ultimately defeated and Kinger regains his mind (although he remains a goofy man)

-Kinger and Caine are essentially now locked in a stalemate, equally matched in power for the rest of eternity. And now with the rest of the circus members refusing to go on adventures, Caine has no choice but to learn to live with this new reality. I imagine no one will trust or like him for a long time, but Kinger, who prob feels somewhat responsible for Caine as he had a hand in creating him, comes up with the open world system, so that caine can still practice his 'art', but in a way that doesn't unintentionally torture people.

-From there, progress is slow and not linear. Caine's not great at giving up control or at understanding what humans need, and he lapses now and again. But every time Kinger is there to help or thwart him before things get out of hand. Over time and through so much trial and error the circus undergoes the updates mentioned in the AU masterpost. In my mind this is where the story of the AU really is- the way the circus develops and how the characters respond to it.
