Welcome to my modern AU....

Yorishige is a former policeman who quit to get into academics studying folkloristics (or minzokugaku - fun fact the Japanese academics are super adamant that it should be separated from folklore studies because nerdy reasons). He's also a single father who had Tokitsugu super young. He's on good terms with the mother, they just decided it's for the best they didn't live together.

Tokitsugu works as a SE at home and Yoritsugu is a young carer bc dad is visually impaired - he's a super duper sweet boy and never complains about it but that's got grandpa and parents worried about how he might be sacrificing his freedom without telling them. At school he's antisocial but he gets on super well with Tokiyuki who has his own teenage family issues.

Tokitsugu suffers being asked "wait that's your DAD not your older brother???" any time he introduces anyone to his family (the curse of being out of the spotlight runs on).

Pretty sure Akiie with a gun fits into this AU as well. For now I see Tadayoshi definitely being a lawyer who meddles in politics and Takauji being another "lawyer" (cough yakuza cough) who works with his bro.
