Western Australia Tours – 4 Places to Visit in 2019!
Albany, found in the great southern region of WA, is the oldest colonial settlement in the state. The city was founded on 26th December 1826, over two years before Perth and Fremantle. Originally named Frederick Town, and then renamed in 1831 when it was transferred into the control of the Swan River Colony. The town has had a diverse history, serving as a major port, and then becoming a centre for agriculture, timber and whaling. There is a highly interesting whaling centre which explores the history of this industry and its links with the town. The town also played a part in the story of the ANZACs, as the port of departure for troops departing for the First World War. The ANZAC centre explores the legend of the ANZACs and pays homage to their bravery and sacrifice. Casey Tours run several tours which visit this wonderful city in the great southern including: 4 Day Australia Day, 8 Day Historic Goldfields, 4 Day ANZAC Day and many more.
Boyup Brook
Each year the sleepy town of Boyup Brook springs to life to celebrate country music. The town, 269 kilometers south-east of Perth is well known by country music fans for this music festival. The festival began in 1986 and attendance has increased steadily over the years with over 13,000 attendees in recent years. The Harvey Dickson’s Country Music Centre is also located a short 5 kilometers outside of the town, a site of a huge unique collection of vehicles and an assortment of country music memorabilia. Casey Tours run a 4 Day camping trip to the country music festival each year, creating a fun base camp for passengers to explore the event.
Kalgoorlie
Kalgoorlie-Boulder came to life in 1893 during the WA gold rush, which was centred around the “golden mile.” Prospectors Paddy Hannan, Tom Flanagan & Dan Shea were travelling past the area when one of their horses cast a shoe, while they were stopped they noticed signs of gold, so they stayed to prospect. After a reward claim was later filed by Hannan, hundreds of gold hunters flooded the area in hopes of striking it rich. Gold and Nickel have been major industries in Kalgoorlie ever since, with the industry still alive and well today. The town is home to the Super Pit, an open cut gold mine that boggles the mind to behold, there is a lookout and visitors centre from which you can view the impressive engineering feat. Casey Tours travels to Kalgoorlie on several departures including: 8 Day Historic Goldfields, Esperance & Albany, 8 Day Holland Way & Golden Quest Discovery, 16 Day Central Australia, Lake Eyre & Flinders Ranges and the 15 Day Australia’s Longest Shortcut.
Mount Augustus
Located 852 kilometers north of Perth, Mount Augustus is a monocline which stands 715 meters above the surrounding plain. The National Park which surrounds the mount is a wonderful place to experience the beauty of the Australian outback. The park was gazetted on 22 September 1989, and is home to native wattles, cassias and eremophilas and other arid shrubs that dot the landscape of the mount. During wildflower time the park blooms with native flowers, and throughout the year the park is home to birds, lizards, snakes, emus, wild turkey and a host of other wildlife. Casey Tours 5 Day and 8 Day Mount Augustus tours stay at Mount Augustus for two nights, allowing you to soak up the magic if this wonderful part of WA.

St Patrick’s Irish Mystery Tour
The feast of Saint Patrick is held on the 17th March each year and celebrates the patron saint of Ireland. The 17th March is the anniversary of the saint’s death, and the day has been observed this date for over 1000 years! Saint Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to the people of Ireland, famously using the 3 leaves of the Shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity (father, son and Holy Spirit). This tour will take you to a mystery location where you will enjoy a festive hotel luncheon and get into the jovial spirit that surrounds this holiday.
Western Rock Lobster Tour
Western Rock Lobsters are part of the family of spiny lobsters, often known as crayfish. Rock Lobsters can live for more than 20 years in the wild and can grow to a whopping 5 kilograms! They mature at 6-7 years of age, and this species is the most abundant in the waters around Western Australia. Rock Lobsters eat algae, dead and dying marine matter, other small crustaceans and molluscs. A fun fact is that they can regrow legs and antennae which are lost. Casey Tours will take you north of Perth to the Indian Ocean Rock Lobster Factory in Cervantes where you can learn more facts about these crustaceans. After a tour of the factory where you can see how the lobsters and caught and processed you can enjoy a delicious half lobster lunch.

Essential Advice For Seniors Day Bus Trips
Bus trips for seniors are an ideal way to enjoy an active life. As we age, we need to keep both our minds and bodies active, so why stay stuck at home? Bus trips can help you to see a myriad of sights without needing to worry about driving on unfamiliar roads or planning a stressful journey. You can simply relax and enjoy the day. However, there are some tips and tricks to ensure that you enjoy a successful trip and make the most of your day.
Plan in Advance:
While spontaneous events can be fun, they can add to your stress. When considering seniors day bus trips, having a few weeks or months to plan your trip will help you to feel organised and eliminate stress. By planning in advance, you can choose a date that is not in a busy season so that you won’t feel under pressure by massive crowds at any popular tourist destinations and sights.
Pack Right:
Bus trips for seniors tend to be day trips, so you while you will need to pack light, you need to pack right. Plan for the weather, so you may need a light jacket if the temperatures may be changeable. Remember to wear clothing that is comfortable. Choose clothing that gives you room to move, but won’t wrinkle when you are sat on a bus for an extended period. Although your day trip may include a break for lunch at a nice restaurant or cafe, don’t forget to pack a few snacks. Pack a few of your favourite treats that are easy to carry and eat. You won’t want anything that requires preparation or crockery.
Medications:
If you are going to be away from home for an entire day, you will need to carry any medications you will need. If you are having an early start for your trip, it could disrupt your usual medication schedule, so you will need to plan in advance. It is also a good idea to have a full day’s medications with you, just in case your tour gets back a little late. Since you will be away from home, consider setting a reminder or alarm on your phone to prompt you to take your medications at the usual time.
Transportation:
Finally, you need to consider how you will be getting to your tour bus. Although most of the transportation for your day is already planned, you will need to consider how you will get to and from your pick up point.

Perth Wildflowers
It’s still many months until spring, but that doesn’t stop the team at Casey Australia Tours for thinking about wildflowers! The 2018 season was fantastic with an abundance of flowers to be found here in Western Australia, here are some of the varietals that we found last year.
Leschenaultia Macrantha (Wreath Leschenaultia)
One of the most eye-catching wildflowers in WA, and tricky to find – the Wreath Leschenaultia is a wonderful bloom. Found growing in areas such as Mullewa, often in dry, well-drained soil on the side of the road. The flowers itself are red and pink and the bush grows into an unusual round shape, with the flowers on the outside edge.
Hakea
Part of the Proteaeae family, Hakeas are a diverse group of plants The flowers are diverse, some are spidery flowers, others elongated spear shaped ones, and others rounded flowers. Hakea Laurina is a pretty varietal, known as the pincushion hakea as the flowers look like pincushions. Red Pokers or Hakea Bucculenta flowers are green to start, but with stunning tangerine spikes. Keep an eye out for birds when you are enjoying hakeas, as the plants have nectar and flowers galore – making them a popular stop off for native birds.
Chamelaucium
Known as Waxflower, is a woody evergreen shrub ranging from 15 cm to 3 meters high, the leaves are quite aromatic when crushed and the flowers are very pretty small five petal blooms. The flowers have a waxy feel, giving the plant its common name.
Enamel Orchids
These orchids have bright petals with a shiny appearance, and are found throughout the south west of WA. One of the features of these flowers is that the underside is as colourful as the topside of the blooms.
Bell Orchids
This flower grows up to 50cm high with sometimes up to 30 small bell-shaped flowers. Found along the south coast in forests, interestingly this flower has no green colouring. It is also sometimes known as a Potato Orchids.
Hammer Orchids
Generally found in sandy soil in forested areas, this species of orchids has several varieties including; wart hammer, slender hammer, narrow-lipped hammer orchid. These orchids are often quite difficult to spy in the bush as they blend in among the shrubs they grow in.
Casey Australia Tours run wildflower tours from late August until the end of October, tours range from 1 – 11 days in length and cover a wide region of WA.
