MMMMM, the LAYERS to this.

She’s technically a monster too. She might not look it at first glance and seems mostly human, but it isn’t deniable even despite her looks compared to the other monsters.

But she realizes that she is still not like the rest of the monsters either and may not have entirely the same experiences as them, which is why she feels that she might not belong to or deserve to go to the support group. By sometimes passing as human, she feels she isn’t worthy of the space.

The sad reality though is even though she’s mostly human in appearance, that tail she has undeniably would still cause her some struggle. Humans are still gonna look at that tail and think she’s a freak. There are probably still accommodations she needs because of the tail that she may still struggle to have access to. Even if it is just the tail, that tail is still enough to other her from humans and cause her problems and discrimination.

She should get to belong in that support group even if she gets told she’s not monster “enough”. She still shares some of the same struggles as them that are caused by being a monster, and needs support.

This is an excellent demonstration of the flaws in the concept of passing privilege. Bravo to the artist.

Even if she didn’t have a tail she’s still a monster. Period. As a mixed person this is a struggle I have faced SO MANY TIMES. Not brown enough to be brown not white enough to be white. It wasn’t until I was in my late 20s I realized I CHOOSE, my identity. Not them. She chooses to identify as a monster because SHE IS ONE, she was raised one in a monster culture.

I’m not sure what the artist wanted to show her feeling in the beginning, her expression confused me a bit but at the end you could tell she didn’t feel welcome. Maybe she actually wanted to be part of the group. Sometimes looking the group you don’t identify with can be really hard. You hear all the horrible things people think about your people because they dont know you are part of that group.

Yes, I am projecting, but only because this is a PERFECT example of the struggle of a mixed person.

To me the tail was cute but un-necessary, her brother already showed the truth. She is a monster, she doesn’t have to “Look like it”.

(I also liked the Michael Jordan “Bulls” jersey, I’m a sucker for mixing modern with mythic)

This is a cute joke to anyone under 80 who doesn’t remember the land shark craze of the 1940s.

Gills aren’t like lungs- When lungs fill with water you’re dead. But when gills have air, they can breathe about as well as a human could on Mt. Everest. So humans, domesticating as they do, bred some fish, including nurse sharks, to breathe better and better in air until finally, the land shark was born.

The land shark, or “Georgia land shark” as it was known in Georgia for legal reasons, became extremely popular with a few caveats: They could not be pet backwards, as their scales were directional and would cut up your hand if stroked in the wrong direction; They had to rest in water once every few days to stay healthy; And most importantly, you had to file their teeth regularly, as they were naturally very sharp and grew anew at a very fast rate.

Most owners were responsible with their land sharks and lived happily. The big problem didn’t come from irresponsible pet owners. The problem came from the American Military.

Seeing the ability to dwell on land, the military immediately began breeding larger, more voracious sharks, including the great white- Intended for use in battle. They never made it that far, as the government decided to invest instead in nuclear arms. So the military was left with several hundred weaponized land shark embryos. And they did what any responsible government agency would do- Made a quick buck by selling them to unsuspecting domesticated land shark breeders.

The results were disastrous. Hundreds were bitten, some were killed. The land shark craze ended with the euthanasia of all land sharks in America. There were too few abroad to maintain a genetic pool, and the species went extinct in 1944.

The effects would be longer lasting. The brief flirtation with land sharks led to the modern shark’s bad reputation. Jaws was made to capitalize on this fear, and to this day people still believe sharks account for the majority of deaths at sea. In fact, over 98% of recorded shark bites were on land from the militarized land sharks, and Jaws is grossly inaccurate, the natural great white shark being only one foot in size.

So it’s fine to be amused by the concept above, it’s even cute. But never forget history and the dangers of tinkering with nature.
