It covered some 8,600 individuals. About 320 of those are gentry that lived on Combe Down and about 2,900 are ‘ordinary’ people that that lived on Combe Down or in Monkton Combe. Benjamin Wingrove

In another tenuous coincidence I have discovered that Benjamin Wingrove (1773 – 1840), who has his own page on this site, and was an attorney, land speculator, agriculturalist and road builder is the 1st cousin 1x removed of the wife of the husband of the 7th great-aunt of our son-in-law. I said it was tenuous!

The Wingroves were a family based in North Bradley until Benjamin Wingrove (1693-1768)

Somehow when ever I see the words ‘master plan’ I give a tiny shudder. I think of evil dictators and ‘James Bond villains‘, the ‘black hats of cowboy movies too.

SAVE FOXHILL from Beth Sabey on Vimeo.

In 2013, the residents of ex-council estate in Bath, Foxhill, became aware of regeneration plans for their community. With proposals lead by Curo Housing association, who took over the remaining social housing stock in Foxhill from B&NES council (Bath & North East Somerset) in 1999, plans revealed Curo's intentions for the complete demolition of the heart of the estate, with an overall loss of 542 homes. While 700 homes were accounted for in the rebuild, they marked an increase of 395 at market value, and a decrease of 256 for social rent.

Joining together and forming the Foxhill Resident's Association, the Save Foxhill Campaign was initiated to fight against the inevitable displacement of their long-standing community and the bulldozing of their cherished homes under Curo's regeneration plans.

With the campaign increasingly growing momentum to stand up for the social value of housing against a wider culture of financialisation, this short documentary SAVE FOXHILL reflects upon the communal and personal impact of regeneration plans, the journey undergone in times of uncertainty, and the power of collective action.

A huge thanks to the Foxhill community for welcoming us into your home's during the production of SAVE FOXHILL.
