New Year, New Me
The blonde kept her eyes on the snow above her as she heard the crunching of footsteps. She hoped they’d keep going on their way. She was never that lucky, to be honest.
Another sigh escaped her - her eyes shifted to meet him.
“… At least it’s not unbearably hot. I hate the summer. And I’m not terribly fond of animals. Or lots of sunlight. And most people stay in their homes, so I’m not bothered when I’m out doing something.”
Her last remark was a tad on the pointed side, but her heart wasn’t in it - it barely sounded sarcastic at all.
Though her words lacked edge, they hurt the same, and as a result the fisherman pursed his lips, reflecting carefully on what to say next. “I see...”
Not that he did, as Toby tried his hardest to see his best of most situations, the exact opposite of the few words this stranger had spoken to him. “I didn’t mean to be a bother -- and I apologize if I am being one... I just wanted to give my best wishes I suppose... With it being the beginning of a new year and all...”
After he finished speaking his gaze drew down to his feet, watching the snow pile up on his boots as he stood motionless, expecting another sharp remark like the last.
