raúl castillo & he/him/cismale ‷ watch out, castel velázquez has crash-landed into roswell !! they look forty four years old and celebrate their birthday on november 18th . they are from reynosa, mexico , reside in greystone complex and are currently working as plumber . one thing you should know about them is that he did a three year prison stint for gang related crime.
born and raised in reynosa, mexico. a particularly bad part of mexico known for gang violence. his father shot and killed when castel was only 11. he quickly became the man of the house, taking care of his mom and little sisters.
shortly following the death of his father, the family relocated to the US - his mother getting a job at a hotel chain thanks to a friend who had moved to corpus christi just a few years earlier.
the move to the US didn’t bring with it what his mother had hoped. castel was used to a life in the streets, and found himself in the same sort of trouble as he did back home.
basically lived in corpus christi from the age of 13 until recently, when he came to roswell following his best friend.
did a prison stint for about 3 years in his late twenties, early thirties.
he’s not a bad guy ?? just hella protective and will do whatever it takes for the people he loves. he often goes about it in all the wrong ways
bad luck magnent
working as plumber but he’s not actually certified sfkdsl but handy af so you’d never know he doesn’t have the schooling behind it
big bromance with @alevfm djkkjs usually ends up putting him before his own wife, and blood related family. hence him now being in roswell
Chiba turned to the stranger, an eyebrow cocked. “Ah, but I wanted actual good coffee, I wouldn’t call what they serve at Crashdown coffee. There’s more water than taste in that one,” he said, shaking his head in annoyance at the Nebula. He liked this place, it was cozy and dumb and he could get a shot of caramel in his coffee, which to him meant it was fancy, since he usually drank his coffee black. But where his mother - in her words - appreciated her ancestry and good quality tea, he wanted good quality coffee.
as he had said , beggars couldn’t be choosers . castel , himself hadn’t been picky . as long as it was warm , and dark enough you couldn’t see the bottom of the cup , he’d drink it . typically he made his own coffee at home , but when struck with a little extra time , he’d splurge . so the wait was no sweat off his back . ❝ guess you’re stuck waiting then . you been out here a full hour already ?? ❞
status: open to anyone @roswellstarters
location: alien gulch — roped-off area of desert ; home to alien gulch skate shop/park & paintball rental.
word on the street was that it once used to be the landing site of a ufo. more likely than that, it had been a disused quarry that got filled with concrete with the plans to build something there, but those plans never came to fruition. it felt apt somehow that archie now worked here, in a place where dreams fell through, but the loss of another was his gain. in the few months they’d been renovating it, it had gone from a lowly bowl of tarmac surrounded by broken glass and beer cans to an actual decent spot where a scene was beginning to evolve. new kids showed up, board in hand, every day asking for new wheels, a fresh deck, the loosening of their king-pin, a one-to-one training session on how to drop-in. even the paintball course that ran through frazier woods had one day been just some bong-brained idea which the locals had thought would never make it out of a shitty hotboxed car. it’s days like this when the sun is low in the mid-morning sky and he’s wiping the sleep from his eyes as he potters about the skatepark, sweeping up the debris, that archie feels a swell of pride in his stomach. you did something, dude. right on.
he’s so swept up in a warmth for what they’ve built here, that it isn’t until he looks up he notices the figure standing by the house, a disused bungalow they’d turned into the skate shop slash office slash diy music venue, splattered wall to wall with camouflage paint. skating over, archie skids to a stop a few feet in front of them. “yo, sorry, bro! we’re not actually open ‘til eleven, but feel free to stick around here until then.” it’s only fifteen minutes or so, though there’s nothing stopping archie from opening up the makeshift reception centre now. “i can go book you in now on the ipad though. were you here for paintball or the skate park?” he starts, fiddling with the keys on his wallet chain as he pats down his pockets for his employee card. “or did you just need to use the restroom? we don’t need to book you in for that… there’s a whole bunch of portapotties about fifty yards thattaway.”
theres about at least twenty years slotted between the usual clientele of this place and castel . but that hadn’t stopped him from at least checking the place out . he’d seen it in a bifold , given out by one of the many hotels around the parts , before he planned on actually hunkering down . sure that this desuetude town was only meant to be a quick pitstop , and not the next place he’d call home .
anyway , he’s got a steady arm and trigger happy fingertips , and while the shooting range sounds more up to speed , he can’t deny the price of a couple of rounds of paintball . it takes a bit of pride swallowing to ask the kid who rolls up as if he owns the place , the one who calls him bro . ❝ paintball , ❞ he responds at first in short , pulling the crumpled bifold from his back pocket . ❝ well , i just had a question , actually . about how many people you need to round up to be able to play ?? ❞ he hadn’t known too many folks , so maybe it was all a waste of time .
❝ wanna quit standing there looking pretty and hand me that mallet ?? ❞ castel urges , head nodding toward the toolbox on the ground as his hands balanced a fence picket from toppling over . when one of his elderly clients spoke about needing her fence fixed , the least he could do was oblige and enlist in some help . it would be easy money if they managed to get the job done .
“Lies. Just lies.” Chiba said as he looked at the sign to the cafe, it was said to open at 6.30am on every week-day, yet here he was, 7.30am on a Tuesday, and the place was closed. Again, he’d been there several times the week before to get some coffee, yet no luck. “Can’t they just change the sign if they don’t plan to provide me with coffee when I need it?” he asked a random person.
he’d been delayed from a job nearby . the main reason castel was stood outside such a hoity-toity establishment . he didn’t care if his breakfast muffin came with a side of gluten or not . gaze peers up from his phone, to take a gander at the sign now that it was brought to his attention by the other person waiting with him to get a cup of joe . ❝ beggars can’t be choosers . ❞ he mumbles, through lips that hardly seem to part when he speaks . small towns like this didn’t provide many options . ❝ that diner , in town - ❞ really the one and only . ❝ opened hours ago if you can’t wait . they serve coffee . ❞
“yeah so i told the guy he just can’t possibly think that getting her name tattoo’d across his neck was a sane idea.. like that’s totally unhinged..right?” sage blurts out as they dig out a pack of cigarette’s from their back before slugging it over their shoulder. pulling one out it finds a home between a set of pearly whites, eyes diverting to their pockets as they move to pat around for the one they’d been holding onto. “shit..” they mutter before rolling their eyes, another one bites the dust.. sage pouts a bit before letting out a huff, tugging the cigarette back between long fingers. “hey, got a light?” they ask with a tilt of their head.
unhinged . why had they said it like that ?? castel’s arm raises , pointing to the name in gothic font , written down his neck in black ink . ❝ totally unhinged . ❞ he repeats back , mocking , cigarette clinging to the chap of his lips . it was his wife’s name . inked as an apology . a packet of matches is dug from his pocket . stick strikes across the match book , lighting his own smoke before handing it off to the other without so much as another word .
they can’t help the laugh, but she knows that he means it, “of course you would,” they tease, but it does feel like a relief because they know he means it beyond just what he’s said literally. “banging the babysitter is a wet-dream trope,” she pulls her cardigan around her shoulders a little more, the chill sweeping them as november begins.
“no, no, i mean babysitter thing aside. you’re gorgeous, stell.” what gabe lacked in filters, paid off in compliments, and you could at least count on him for saying exactly how he felt. “no cap. you gonna keep that red thing goin’ for awhile or is this a limited run?”
the logical part of her brain tells her she should say no - turn him down, just like she always did when he started flirting with her again, but she’d never been the type to listen to logic. because tonight, she just wants to forget, to embrace this liminal space they’ve found themselves in, even though she knows where this will end. her hopes rising, attachment, before it all falls apart again. but… she can’t bring herself to care. not when it feels so good to be with him, here, right now.
she only hesitates for a moment before she leans across the center console of the car, brushing a slow kiss against his lips, a shiver trailing down her spine at the sensation that’s still so familiar after so many years. “thought you’d never ask,” she muttered softly. at least, he had asked before - but the difference was that this time, she wasn’t angry. wasn’t ready to lash out, like she usually was. her fingertips trailed down his chest, curled just enough so that her nails scrape against his chest before she’s slipping out of the passenger door and into the backseat just as quickly, shooting him a challenging look as she does.
the reaction is not what gabe had expected. taken aback by the kiss as the blonde leans across the front seats. if only he had the ability to recognize that this was such a bad idea, or the ability to care. hand’s quick to raise and oversized fingers part through blonde locks as he takes every moment to enjoy the kiss - for once, she doesn’t seem pissed off, so he’ll savour every moment to enjoy it in the event she shuts it down.
gabriel takes a different approach to entering the back seat. wasting no time in sliding over the seats and plummeting down in the back, shoes kicked off into the drivers side in the process. movement’s fluid and he’s back to closing the gap between them. “i missed this,” husky voice whispers against the small gap between them before closing it again with a kiss, thumb resting on the curve of her jaw.
“ how did i know that was coming ?? no , no – i’m gonna be right back at it as soon as i can . i can’t let you think you’ve won , “ already the increase in jaden’s physical activity had performed wonders on his physique , let alone the innate skill that had been hibernating for the best part of two years . “ that’s a super cute gift . fingers crossed they turn out a little baller like their dad . then you’ll have double the competition , “
“i just know if i had a kid, i’d want them to have some pretty sweet kicks.” there’s a pause, and he trips over his words to speak again. “glad i don’t though. you can be the one to keep poppin ‘em out. congrats by the way. and just so you know, i’m not above schoolin’ a baby, either. i could try to wrangle up my sister to play so we’re at least kinda even.”
“yeah, can you believe that? i can’t. like, i came up with the whole costume – just got a cat woman’s mask. it was a last minute thing, as my best friend wouldn’t take no for an answer.” not that they didn’t have fun after all, but still, she could appreciate the rest. “i don’t think i will be able to drink that much. 100 dollars bar tap is.. a lot of drinks, no?”
“you probably just look really hot in a cat woman mask. a hundred dollars does sounds like a good night.” what was that, like, ten to twelve drinks? “don’t tell your friend or they’re gonna want a slice of that win.”
“i was at starlight earlier, getting some snacks and this woman nearly broke my toe with her cart” hana tells the other. “it was super heavy, almost overflowing with stuff for thanksgiving” she pauses to take a sip from her coffee mug, “she didn’t say sorry”.
“did you run over her right back? i would have.” or at least let the cart slip out of his hands, or let his sister push it into the woman. by accident of course. “people get like, rabid or someshit at holidays. i don’t get it.”
“ seriously , i knew nothing about it – our friends arranged the entire thing . “ it was hard to believe , with how perfect the celebrations had been and would continue to be for the entirety of the evening ; cyrus and zef had done an incredible job . “ – now i’m not gonna judge you if you didn’t bring anything , but which gift was yours ?? “
he’s stood, arms folded, not even entirely sure why he came. probably to land chicks, which had been the only reason to cross gabe’s mind. chicks loved babies. “you’re not gonna use the whole dad thing as an excuse to stay off the court are ya? take a wild guess, man.” head nods to the tiny nike box stacked on the table of unwrapped gifts.
So Skye knew when the conversation had begun that Gabe really had no intention of coming around for pie. She’d still made some, though, had enough pumpkin to feed an army, which meant there was slice ready for him when he arrived, whether he wanted it or not. Amy was around at Owen’s, no doubt being kept occupied by both her real uncle and her pseudo uncles, which meant she had the place to herself for the evening.
She spent a little too long in her bedroom making sure she looked presentable, and then turned her attention to the apartment instead, idly fluffing up pillows and adjusting items on the coffee table. Seriously, as if he actually cared. Then, when she heard the knock at the door, she was up and pulling it open within seconds. “Hey… good evening…”
the promise of freshly baked pastries wasn’t the reason gabe was going over to visit skye. there were always ulterior motives for the pair to hang out, but he had voiced them loud and clear as far as he was concerned. if he walked the halls of aurora to her apartment to find that there wasn’t any pie involved after all, well, he wouldn’t be upset.
oversized knuckles barely have time to finish wrapping against the apartment door before the door is pulled open, greeted by the woman on the other side. a brow raises inquisitively as she answers. “were you standing at the door eagerly waiting for me, henderson?”
there’s something about all of this that makes winter feel like she’s in high school again. and with the way he touches her, if she closes her eyes and pretends she’s not who she is because of what gabe did, it almost feels like they really are. happy - or at least, she’d been happy with him back then - with her happy as can be being the pretty blonde girlfriend at his side. there’s something in the way her heart pounds, tempting and impossible to ignore, as she leans her cheek into his touch almost unconsciously.
“make it sound like we couldn’t be again if you just asked.” she doesn’t know why she says it - maybe because they’re in something that feels like a liminal space, or at least what she’s read them described as, where time moves differently. where the past few years had never happened, and she was just the silly younger girlfriend who loved him more than anything. because winter carver had always been the kind of girl who loved with every piece of her - or, at least, she had been until she’d had it proven to her time and time again that no one loved her the same way, and not just by him, really. the kind of girl who would do and be anything if it meant making the one she loved happy. she pauses for half a heartbeat before adding, her voice softer, “sometimes when you’re actin’ like this, i forget why i get mad at you the way i do.”
its probably a trap - he knows he shouldn’t ask, but he was never good at being his own voice of reason. part of the real reason they’d ended things the way the did. why he couldn’t just live with the idea of being monogamous. she’s in a position of vulnerability and mouth should keep shut and power on the car to drive her home, but of course for gabriel decker, that isn’t the way it goes. “acting like what? drivin’ you home? i wouldn’t have made you walk.”
head falls against the head rest and gaze lands on her an extra minute or so before continuing to speak. “if you hold off on being mad for a second, we can put that energy to good use.. y’know, in the backseat. if you want?” theres a pause before speaking again. “that’s me askin.”
