wahhhh hi and thank you!!!! i'm sorry for the lack of skull face posting in forever but i'm so flattered i am still That Skull Face Enjoyer to people <3333 the end of this month literally marks 5 years since i became completely insane about him which is crazy. my brain has been elsewhere for the past while but i miss him so much, i keep meaning to do a full mgs series replay so when i do expect the brainworms to return

hello skull face nation, today we lost skull face's japanese voice, takaya hashi. i know it's the english version of the game we're all most familiar with but in his memory i'd like to share with you some of his incredible work voicing our favourite little man.

this is the japanese version of the mission 30 dialogue:

i find hashi-san's voice for him really embodies the darkness and pure empty sorrow to skull face, obviously i can't comment much on the script and use of language because i can only read it in translation but i think his performance was powerful enough to transcend language and conveys so much about the character through voice and mannerisms alone. much of the contributions to this small fandom come from japanese artists who will always hear this voice in their head and for that reason i think listening to his performance has always been important for my understanding of the portrayal and perception of the character so i think now more than ever i'd like to recommend it to you.

there really wouldn't be a skull face without takaya hashi. i have always wished, half-jokingly, for a skull face cameo in delta but now i wish more than ever that it had happened, just to let him portray the character one last time. i know for many skull face is a small character, and is very self-contained to MGSV itself, but i think his presence and his words will never be forgotten, and i'm grateful to owe a character so characterised by concepts of words and language to such an incredible performer.

so yeah, i kind of failed on the skull face-tober thing and another 31 fics at the length i was trying to write them ended up well beyond my reach

BUT: i felt very evil gatekeeping the ones i have completed, especially since i consider some of these among my favourite things i've ever written so i present them to you at long last and hope they have been worth the wait!

i'm not abandoning this project entirely and i'm leaving it open to come back to and update whenever the moment strikes (and i'll let you know when it does). so for now thank you for still being here and i hope you enjoy <3

I think the message or idea you're trying to push about Skull Face is dangerous because you don't know what unwitting person who hasn't read the lore or lore documents would have any idea and thirst over him. Blocking you may be easy but the idea or what he did as a character simply cannot be ignored

"who hasn't read the lore or lore documents" you mean just... played the games??? everything i create about him gets the same like 5 people interacting, are you implying none of them know? does my incredibly niche content really have the power to make people go "haha what a funny harmless character, i want to fuck him now" without prompting them to do any further research? he's called skull face and looks and talks like That, he is the most obviously evil character in the entire series and more people know about his torture and rape of paz than almost anything else about him.

this isn't information i believe in obscuring, of the handful of people on the entire internet who post about him vaguely regularly you're arguing with the one person most willing and comfortable with talking about ground zeroes. anyone unwilling to face the actual truth of the character is not my responsibility - if it's uncomfortable for people to confront directly then fine, but i don't approve of ignoring its existence and if people do i cannot control their thoughts or actions, much like how you cannot control mine.

do you want a banner on every post that says "this character raped paz"? do i need to insult everyone here's intelligence including my own? i do my best to remove followers i know are under 18 on here so i would expect a bunch of grown adults to be capable of knowing and understanding. any hypothetical "unwitting" people who are thirsting over him without knowing anything about him aren't voicing it to me so what power do i have over something that i don't even know is happening, that is happening contrary to my beliefs? i could say "cut that shit out and go play ground zeroes" as much as i want but there's no way to force people to listen. any hypothetical idiots can take responsibility for their own actions without me somehow being dangerously responsible for them.

blocking is easy so you should do it instead of having arguments that will continue to go nowhere because while neither of us have the power to change each other's thoughts and feelings, blocking is the one power you do have to make sure you don't have to engage with me again. i'm not ignoring what he did, you're not ignoring what he did, you are fighting with people that aren't even in the room with us right now.

as a video game character he isn't real and i think the themes and ideas he represents are very interesting to think about within the constraints of fiction without condoning them or his behaviour in real life

MGSV novel translation: new and updated!

it's been almost 2 years now since i first uploaded a full machine-assisted translation of the phantom pain novelisation, and despite my best efforts at verifying the translation and correcting errors, a lot of stuff slipped through the cracks.

so i'm happy to say i've finally given it another meticulous round of cross-referencing and editing and it's now likely as complete and as readable as it will ever be without me becoming fluent in japanese and rewriting the entire thing from scratch

art vs artist for the year!

despite all the ups and downs i've had with my art this year i've never felt so proud looking at it all. and this doesn't even begin to cover how much i've written this year, and all the other stuff i haven't shown on here - most notably painting two tiny foxes, putting together cosplays, making a plushie from scratch, and slowly chipping away at a very extensive mgs fansite i hope to finally launch in the next year.

so thanks for being here and for being patient with me while my brain pulls me in every direction at once, here's to a year of more art, weirder art, better art, and most importantly: more skull face.
