Dozens of bottles lined the shelves behind the bar-top, each one comparing and contrasting its neighbors, a visual cacophony comprised of a colorful variety of glass and labels. Wish You Were Beer wasn’t the finest establishment in the city, but class wasn’t Jordan’s priority. It was proximity — down the street, within walking distance of the motel — and crowd — easier to fade into, and hopefully, with lower moral standards. Las Vegas was a weird place, not that she needed to live in the modern world’s equivalent of Wonderland to know just how deep the rabbit hole went. The bar was in excess of a few things: kitschy artwork, garish trinkets, and tasteless neon signs scattered throughout the room. She had to tell herself again and again: This will do.
Or at least it would after a few drinks. Jordan sat at the counter nursing her second pint of cheap domestic draft beer, snug in one of the few sweaters she’d discovered at the bottom of her suitcase. Winter in Nevada was preferable to that of the state in which she had previously resided (Virginia), but the temperature had dipped down low enough for a recent dusting of snow: a remarkable sight, but a nuisance all the same. And so a sweater was a necessity, at the very least, to keep her warm on the walk over. The alcohol would help warm her on the way back. The bar was quiet for a Saturday afternoon, all but empty save for the drifters scattered down the counter and group of twenty-somethings playing pool. On the jukebox in the corner was some old country singer crooning about his long lost love — predictable and, unfortunately, relatable, but the volume wasn’t high enough to drown out the scrape of the stool next to her as a newcomer sat themselves to her right.
“Okay, here’s the deal,” Catalina started as she walked around the store and grabbed few snacks before moving around the counter to grab a few notebooks. “You two are gonna stay here and make sure the store doesn’t fall apart and I’m gonna go make sure our accounts are in order and that you pendejos didn’t fuck it up.” She looked at two of her brothers and slid the books and snacks into her purse before pulling it up on her shoulder. “Please don’t burn this place down when I’m gone. We only have so much inheritance, okay?” She smiled softly, just to let them know she wasn’t completely pissed off. Still, she felt like the store would actually fall apart if she wasn’t around. She knew it wasn’t her burden to bear but she felt a certain responsibility to her family. She didn’t want to see them drown.
She walked out of the store with a wave and made her way safely across the highway and down a bit until she was at the bar. She spotted an empty seat and made her way over, setting her bag on the table as she said hi to the bartender. “Oh you know me, I’m going to start off with a beer and then make my way to tequila once these numbers finally make sense...or don’t make sense,” she joked. She glanced at the woman next to her and gave her a soft smile when she managed to catch her eye. “Sorry, am I taking up too much space,” she said and glanced at the books that she was starting to lay out. “Some people like coffee shops, I prefer bars. I don’t know what that says about me,” she joked and pulled a pen out, setting it next to the books before she started to put her hair up. “What are you drinking? The next one is on me,” Cat started again before glancing around the bar. “I mean there’s only so many people here so I have to have one good deed today by buying you a drink.”
monikademartel:
Monika’s eyes followed Catalina’s every step as she maneuvered about the motel room, saying something about the texting habits about some guy and his Netflix habits? She wasn’t entirely sure what was being said because her attention was fixed squarely on the brunette’s full lips and figure, and the expanse of skin between that was revealed when she shed her t-shirt. This escalated quickly, Monika thought, her gaze roaming Cat’s body. Not that she minded. This was one way to warm up after being locked out. Somewhere between the closet and the chair, Cat has asked a question and Monika had nodded along, unsure exactly what she was agreeing with, but she didn’t care. For all she knew, she could be agreeing to run away and join a cult, but the details didn’t matter, not with the other woman down to her bra and shorts.
“I guess you could say I’m not most people,” Monika replied, finding her voice somewhere in the wreckage of her train of thoughts. Her line of vision lowered when Cat leaned forward, the angle accentuating her full cleavage, only drifting back up to stare as she proposed they share a shower. “Yeah, the universe is really big on water conservation,” she said, sliding off the bed, “and so am I.” Monika padded across the carpet to the chair, lowering herself in front of the woman, her hands set on opposite sides of the seat, on either side of her hips. “We’re in the desert after all.” She moved her hands to uncross Cat’s legs and settle between them, leaning up on her knees, her hands traveling over cold skin as she pressed forward to kiss the brunette teasingly, just as she had done on the dance floor. There was no need for additional commentary as Monika brushed her mouth against the other woman’s once more before pulling away to tug off her own jacket and toss it aside. “You’re cold,” she murmured, her clipped nails raking up Cat’s thighs to tug at the band of her shorts. “We should get you in that shower.”
Cat rarely saw the point in being shy when it came to the things she wanted. How else was she going to have it if she didn’t ask for it? Her night with Monika had been good enough to be memorable and if the woman was going to be living near her for a little while then she figured she might as well make the best of it. “Well I do find it pretty sexy when people care about the environment,” she replied with a giggle as she watched Monika walked towards her. She kept her eyes on her before happily letting her spread her legs. She bit he lip again when she felt her hands and nodded. “We should,” was all she replied as she got to her feet and pulled Monika up to kiss her eagerly. She smiled against her lips as she slid her hands down her side, pulling at her shirt before pulling it off, her lips going to the woman’s neck as the shirt fell. She trailed kisses down her neck as one hand slid to grip her ass. “Mm, let’s see, I think I made you cum..three times last time? Or was that someone else?” She smirked as she pulled away and started to move towards the shower, pulling Monika with her. “I think I can definitely beat that this time,” she continued before reaching into the shower to turn on the water.
As they waited for the water to warm up, Cat turned back to her, letting her undress her before she was doing the same for Monika. When the water was warm, she stepped back into the tub, carefully pulling the other woman in with her as she stepped under the water. “So much warmer,” she breathed out and dragged her fingers along Monika’s sides. “Maybe it’s a good thing your key isn’t working.”
monikademartel:
“Fuck me.” The words tumbled out of Monika’s mouth before she could press her lips together to keep them in. It wasn’t lost on her in the moment that what she’d uttered had been precisely her words to the woman standing before her a few nights before. Cat was her name, that much Monika could remember, along with the dimples at the small of her back to match those that formed grooves in her cheeks when she smiled. “I remember,” the blonde nodded, wetting her lips, remembering the taste of the brunette on them. The dance floor at Marquee had been packed, providing the perfect cover to get closer to Cat, not that she needed an excuse. The other woman’s hips had moved in perfect sync with the music and Monika had been helpless to keep her hands away, her fingers inching under Cat’s shirt, slowly enough to be denied but bold enough to keep her from slipping away.
Monika followed Cat into her room, which was almost a perfect duplicate of her own upstairs, where their night had culminated. “It’s a small world or so I’ve heard.” She toed off her heels and helped herself to a seat at the foot of the bed. The room was preferable to standing outside in the cold and snow, kicking at her stubborn door, and only doubled in preference when Cat began to remove her sweater, her honey-highlighted locks spilling down her back. “I would’ve called,” Monika began, leaning back on the bed, supported by her hands, “but you didn’t leave your number.”
“I didn’t?” She smirked as she glanced back at Monika and threw her sweater on the chair near the window. “I don’t usually leave my number for people I just met. Even though I gotta say, your mouth almost made me consider it,” she teased as she moved around the small room. “Don’t get me wrong, I love a good conversation but I’d rather have it in person. Have you ever felt yourself just increasingly lose interest over someone via text? People’s texting styles can be so unsexy. I mean one time I gave this guy my number and he just thought it meant he could text me whenever to talk extensively about his thoughts on the show he was watching Netflix. Like no, I don’t want to be your friend. I gave it to you so you can let me know when you want to fuck.” She laughed as she glanced back at Monika, “You know what I mean?”
She moved over to her closet and pulled off her t-shirt, glancing over her shoulder to look at Monika again with a smile. “You know, most people have to buy me a drink to get a show like this,” she teased. Cat grabbed a hair tie from her nightstand to put her hair up as she walked back around the bed and took a chair across from Monika, crossing one leg over the other. “I was gonna take off the rest,” she said and motioned to her shorts and bra, “But then it struck me that you’re here in my room and you have hands, you can totally do that for me instead.” She laughed softly and leaned forward, resting her chin in her hand as she looked at Monika. “So here’s the deal. My original plan was to come back and shower before getting ready to head back to work. But now that you’re here, I’m starting to think the universe is telling me that I really shouldn’t take that shower alone, you know? I mean there’s only so much hot water in this place and it needs to be shared.” She shrugged as she met Monika’s eyes, a smile on her face the entire time. “Is the universe telling you that too?”

Ollie glanced over at Cat, a regular and part of the Delgado clan that kept him fed and caffeinated. “Climate change that apparently isn’t even real. It’s all a hoax by China.” He shook his head a few times before looking back up to the sky. Snowflakes were gathering on his beard and eyelashes. He blinked a few time at the coldness of it all. He had to admit, the entire thing was impressive. “Yeah, you’re right.” Noticing that she was only in shorts in a t-shirt, he shrugged out of his oversized coat and held it out for her. “What the fuck you doing wearing that? Put this on before you freeze to death.” He shook his head. It wouldn’t be the drink or drug that got him, but all those around him who stressed him the fuck out. “Yeah, well, I don’t hate the grapefruit, but I can’t bring three of them to work. Lila would kick my ass and I can’t handle it.” He cleared his throat before gesturing with his free hand. “I like it. The snow. I think?”
“I know you’re joking but I was just about to ran about climate change to my dad inside,” she replied with a laugh and shook her head, glancing up at the sky with him. She laughed as he offered the coat. “It’s okay, I’m good. I’m about to run back to the motel anyway after checking in. I was on a run when the snow started.” She pushed back the coat and shook her head. “You’re sweet though. You came to Vegas prepared for the winter anyway, huh? Smart man.” She nodded in understanding and gave him a smile. “Alright well then I’ll just keep writing letters to red bull to make bigger versions of it just for you. And Lila could probably kick people’s asses just by looking at them. It’s pretty sexy, right?” Cat nodded at his words. “It’s nice. It’s a change and sometimes you need that when life gets a little too repetitive, you know?” She looked around them and laughed. “I mean it’s fucking crazy but it’s different. Did you not grow up in a place with snow?” She moved towards the door to the convenience as she looked at him. “Also I’m not trying to cut off this conversation but I can see my brother trying to re-stock and he’s fucking it up. Do you have siblings? They’re the worst and best.”
ursula-atwell:
“Don’t worry, I’m a lawyer, so you can take me to court.” She teased, though the look that hung upon the stranger’s face was not that of amusement. Ursula’s exterior rapidly turned serious, the stoic look that seemed like the permanent facial expression she always wore, residing. “Look, I am sorry, here –” Taking off her coat, an earnest look splayed across the canvas of her face as she walked over to the stranger. Her feet threaded slowly, one after the other – as if a hunter sneaking up on it’s prey. She didn’t want to make any sudden movements, as not to anger her companion further. Handing her the coat, Ursula held up her hands in surrender and stepped back. “Take it, really. I have plenty and you, you’re obviously not prepared the blizzard.” Another crack. That probably wasn’t the right thing to say. “I don’t think I know what elf you’re referring to? Is there a famous one?” She inquired, her eyebrows furrowing and head cocking slightly. The reference was lost to her, perhaps some “meme”, as the kids liked to call them these days. A notion the older woman was still quite oblivious to. “Promise, I won’t throw another one. Besides, it’s not fair to rage war with someone who isn’t prepared. You obviously can’t handle it and that’s okay. I get it. Not everyone can be Elsa.”
“You don’t know the Elf reference but you know Elsa? Okay give me a second to catch up and figure out the way to answer all of those questions,” Cat replied and shook her head, letting out a laugh as she further processed their short exchange. “Have you seen the movie Elf? With Will Ferrell? There’s a big snowball fight scene and he fucks some dudes up, it’s pretty iconic. Frozen is not a favorite of mine and I still hate my brothers for forcing me to watch it. That’s precious time I will never get back.” She shook her head before looking at the offered coat. “I’m okay, I’ll survive. It’s not a frozen tundra out here, but it’s not pleasant and I usually like my clothes to stay dry. Lastly,” she continued and shifted her stance, clearly not as bothered as she was before. She was more amused than anything. “It always amuses me when people think I’m somehow going to attack them whenever I express discontent,” she said and looked Urusla over. It didn’t go unnoticed to her the way she backed away from her like she as a bomb about to detonate. “The whole angry latina stereotype gets a little old,” she said with a shrug. “Actually I do have one more point, if we were in an actual snowball fight, I’d kick your ass.”

⏤ @CATALINA-DELGADO:
Snow. In Las Vegas. What were the odds? A layer of thick flakes floated down from the skies, coating the motel property in white. Monika marveled the scene as she stepped out of the backseat of the bright yellow taxi parked at the front of the building, recalling white Christmases in North Carolina. Such a sight at this time of year was commonplace back home, but in the desert, it was a jarring happenstance. Climate change was really fucking the planet in the ass ⏤ or maybe it was some sort of sign from the heavens above that she was disturbing an otherworldly order by showing up. The decision to make the trip across state lines to Sin City had been driven primarily by the same knee-jerk process that typically led her into precarious situations. But this was different, it had to be. She needed to look her sister in the face and apologize for the strife she’d caused, or at least try to, if Rosaliya would even entertain her presence long enough for her to eke out a few words.
A few people lingered outside, impressed by the snow. It wasn’t anything Monika hadn’t seen before. All she wanted in the moment was a hot shower and a handful of Advil to dull the persistent throbbing in her skull. Maybe even one of the cans of beer in her fridge. “Hair of the dog that bit you,” Elijah used to say. She lost herself to her thoughts, wondering how her older brother was faring since their last conversation, and about Christmas back home. Most of the family had stayed in the Tar Heel state and would inevitably be spending the holiday together as they did every year, this time with a few noticeable absences.
Keycard at the ready, Monika approached her door and inserted the card in the reader. The light flashed red. “What the fuck,” she mumbled under her breath. A second attempt failed, followed by a third, a fourth, a fifth, frustration growing at a rapid pace. She kicked at the door and swore loudly, turning the card over to determine why it wasn’t working. Today was not the day to be locked out. Turning on a heel, she started toward the front office to have the card reprogrammed, but the sight of a brunette approaching stopped her in her tracks. “Fucking card isn’t working,” she grumbled. “That happen a lot around here?”
After spending the morning with her brothers, trying to clear a good path to the store from the road, all Cat wanted was a shower and a quick nap before her afternoon shift. The night before had been spent with lots of friends and family and she hadn’t gone to sleep until after 3am. The snow had definitely thrown her off and while she wanted to spend the day just staring out the window, she had things to do and in a few days the snow would just be another weird consequence to climate change. It was something that she saw as beautiful but it also made her angry for reasons she knew no one really wanted to listen to right now. She had already tried her tangent on climate change and politics on her brother Luis and he had quickly shut her down by holding up his phone to show he was too busy scrolling through instagram.
Cat had just made it across the street, pulling her sweater around her a little tighter as she walked across the motel’s parking lot and towards her door. She was about to reach it when she heard someone coming down the steps muttering to themselves. She turned and raised an eyebrow at the blonde, looking around her before realizing she was the one being talked to. “I don’t know, I don’t work here,” she said and motioned at the door, momentarily put off by the woman’s question. It wasn’t a rare occurrence for her to get mistaken for a motel employee, another complaint she had made her brothers listen to over beers. She looked at the women again before tilting her head. “Wait...do I know you?”
She took a step closer and tried to think more. There were a lot of blonde white woman around, and definitely a lot that she had crossed paths with intimately but this woman struck her as someone who was more recently familiar. “Oh shit, I do know you. Or well...I mean I know your body more than I know you at this point but you know, we were a little busy.” She laughed softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as the memories came back to her. “I met you at Marquee the other night. I’m the girl who made your night by backing my ass up against you,” she joked, hoping that she had gotten the right person. “Uh I tell you what, why don’t you hang in my room so you can get out of the cold and once I change,” she said and motioned to her clothes, “We can see what we can do about your key,” she said with a soft smile, already pushing the door open to her room to let her inside. “Of course you’re staying here,” she said with a soft laugh as she started to pull her sweater off, “Vegas is only so big.”
ursula-atwell:
Delicate snowflakes fell, matting her hair as she trudged out in her shiny, bright Christmas red Hunter boots. The bright colour was a definite contrast to the pale backdrop in which the snow had provided and the lawyer felt a childlike enthusiasm wash over her aura. She had rarely ever had an occasion to wear the shoes, another stark contrast to the five-inch stilettos that usually encaptured her feet – but her sister sent her a pair for her thirty-seventh birthday. An inside joke since she knew Illeana, her youngest sister had stolen hers, fifteen years prior and was finally admitting it. Of course, there was no acrimony between them now, just a profound laugh and a brief phone call, thanking her sister for the gift ensued.
Ursula smiled before bending down to pick up a handful of snow. She let the bite of the cold shock her porcelain skin before packing it in. Icy hues scanned the parking lot for her nearest victim, who’s back was conveniently turned from them and hit the person with the melting snowball. It wasn’t perfect weather to rage a snowball war, the snow being too saturated to make a proper one, but it would do. Who knows when they would get another chance like this? “Oops?” Her features were deadpanned, but then the corner of her lips curved upwards, hinting at a lighthearted action.
It was still hard for Cat to believe that it was actually snowing. She had been sixteen the last time this had happened and it was just as mesmerizing at the fist time. Sure she had seen winters on the northeast but something about the store being surrounded by snow made her heart feel a little warmer. But she was someone who enjoyed watching it all from inside. She wasn’t someone who was made for the cold and her west coast life had made it easy for her to avoid it. She had just stepped outside after finally changing from her shift when she paused to take a call from her mother who just had to tell her about the breakfast she had made with her sister that morning.
Cat was hanging up the phone when she felt something strike her in the back and she immediately turned around with a raised eyebrow. “Oops? What the fuck?” She slid her phone into her pocket and crossed her arms over her chest as she looked at the woman. “Look, I know we don’t get a lot of snow in these parts but last time I checked, it’s not right to hit total strangers with a snowball. For one, we’re not ten, and for two, I don’t even know who the fuck you are, lady.” It wasn’t usual for Cat to jump to getting angry or annoyed but she also wasn’t one to take kindly to strangers causing her clothes to be wet. “You do realize that I’m only wearing this sweater, right? Which means when the snow melts, my back is fucking wet and I’m not prepared with a fucking parka for this shit.” She rolled her eyes as she looked into her bag for her vibrating phone again, “Fucking gringas do the weirdest shit,” she mumbled to herself before looking up. “Are you good or are you going to go full Elf on me while I walk across the street?”

She was just returning to her room after the snow had slowly come to be. Snow. Who would have imagined it? In the middle of sunny Las Vegas—- desert. Who knew when it was the last time that snow had come to be? Lola certainly didn’t know and she didn’t know if the motel was equipped for colder weathers, or if anyone in there was. She knew she wasn’t —- she didn’t have absolutely no clothes for that. It was hard to know what to do. Maybe she should pack on what she could pack, coffee and hot chocolate, which was why she walked across the parking lot to the Grillie, in a bit of a rush, because her father was still sleeping and would start feeling the frost bites soon, but the early morning snow had surely created slippery paths and that’s when Lola (who was walking in some sort of a rush) slipped and fell, hard. “Oh Jesus Christ,” the girl yelped, groaning with eyes closed. “My freaking ass.”
Cat had just finished checking in with her brothers and was on her way back to her room to get ready for the day when she spotted Lola walking through the motel parking lot. She had just opened her mouth to call out to her when she watched the girl slip and fall. “Oh shit,” she mumbled to herself and was careful as she rushed over to her. “Aye, Lola, are you okay? Come on, let’s get you up and out of the cold, okay?” She reached out for her arm and pulled the younger girl up, sliding an arm around her waist once she stood to keep her steady. “That’s definitely going to be sore but you’ll be able to manage.” She gave her a soft smile and rubbed her back. “Where were you headed? I can walk you and maybe get you something warm to drink. And maybe a sweater? I have a few that you can borrow in my room.”
ollieprince:
Snow. White, bright, motherfucking snow. Ollie wondered if he was having an out of body experience when he woke up in the morning and looked out the window. The city seemed quiet, almost as if it was uncertain about the weather outside. He could relate. He was from Australia where the cold wasn’t exactly a worry. And since moving to the States, he’d only seen snow a handful of times when visiting New York. Between the robbery at the diner and now the snow, Ollie thought he was losing his mind. He didn’t even want to think about the stare down with a fox of some sort a few days before. The morning called to treating himself, which meant an extra large can of RedBull – the original so he could actually taste the fuel entering his body. Exiting Delgado’s, he looked up at the sky allowing the snow to land and nestle into his beard. “Is snow a good or bad omen? Because I’m not sure what to make of this white shit.” He glanced over at the person hovering outside the store.
After a weekend of far too much eating and alcohol, Cat had forced herself out of bed that morning to go for a run. It was hard but it felt good to be out again, that was until she got caught in her shorts and thin long sleeve shirt in the snow. Was it really fucking snowing? She looked around and let out a laugh as she looked across to the store, wondering if her brothers had even looked outside yet. She waited for some cars to pass before she ran across, laughing as she heard Ollie’s voice. “That’s a good question. I think it’s just climate change,” she joked and cross her arms over her chest for warmth as she looked up. “But given the holiday season, I’m gonna say a good one. I mean we could all use a good one right about now, right?” She smiled softly and pointed at his red bull. “Getting ready for your shift? I’m telling you, you might really like the grapefruit one. I’m trying to find them in the large size just for you.”
Cat 📱 Fallon
Fallon: That's my girl.
Fallon: Really? That would be amazing. I'll make some flyers up and bring them over. Obviously, only for the hot Cheeto crowd. And you know it!
Fallon: Um, duh. I'm getting you on the guest list for this show. Start picking out an outfit now.
Fallon: The peacock chased you? LOL. Did anyone get video of that by any chance? 👀
Fallon: It's the holidays, Cat. Please check the negativity at the door. I just want to party. So you're with me on this? You'll help me plan something?
Cat: Yeah, of course! I've gotta show my support and as tough as competition is, I feel safe in saying you're one of the much better DJs around.
Cat: Ugh you're the best, I'm already excited.
Cat: Yes, it did. I knew you were gonna laugh at me, you ass. I don't think anyone else was out at that point so thankfully not. I will not have you being entertained at my expense.
Cat: Okay, okay! Fine, the negativity is gone. You want a motel party, we'll make it happen. Yes, yes I will!
