As though the university wasn’t saturated enough with booths a sorority of all places had to have taken up shop in front of her apartment. Kiki was loading up on sarcastic remarks or quick fire Shona that she could throw at them as she tried to pass by without engaging when a stunning girl spoke to her. Disregarding all of her annoyed thoughts, she reached out to grab the treats the girl offered her with a bright smile. “Thanks! Is there a limit to how many cookies I can come out here to grab or should I think of a better excuse to keep seeing your beautiful face?”

Catalina smiled at the new girl as she accepted the refreshments from her perfectly manicured hands. “Oh of course!” She waved with one hand after the girl had thanked her. Of course, Cat was used to having members of her sorority and the rest of community going about and praising the other girls, but there was something about this stranger’s compliment that Cat knew wasn’t that type of a compliment. She was being hit on and quite truthfully it was the first time coming from another female. Not that that bothered her, she just wasn’t interested. Her glossy smile in place, Cat shrugged her shoulders with a soft giggle. She could just play this off. “Well aren’t you just so sweet! Take as many as you want.” she offered, side-stepping a bit to show that the girl could help herself to the table. “I’m Cat, by the way. Recruitment chair of Delta Zeta. Since you’re here and enjoying some of my delicious homemade cookies would you be interested in learning a bit more about our amazing sisterhood?”

this was the last thing vanessa needed today. the air was damp with humidity, her skin sweaty from her workout and baby hairs sticking to the back of her neck. anyone who had known vanessa parker-santos for more than five seconds would know that she was not a SORORITY SISTER, and would more likely jump into a vat of acid than be one. she had enough family as it was, she didn’t need a gaggle of ( mostly ) white girls with monogrammed everything in all of her business. akatendeka and veronika were enough for her, if not too much. and so, needless to say, she was a bit more than annoyed by this public display of philanthropy, which didn’t seem, at least to her, philanthropic. it was a recruitment tactic;; the same way she’d been taught to appeal to the jury in court. the jury, of course, did not take lemonade bribes. 

                     “dios mío,” vanessa said under her breath,                       hoping to slip by unnoticed and failing                       miserably, as she often did when the ever-                      persistent catalina was involved. the lawyer                       ran her palm over her forehead, pushing                       back hairs that had strayed from her ponytail                       at the front. “are you serious with all this?” she                       asked, gesturing loosely to the provisions                       catalina had extended but not taking them.

Dear God, of all of the people to walk by at that exact moment it just had to be Vanessa. It took a force of nature to stop Cat from rolling her eyes so far into the back of her head, but somehow by the grace of God, she abstained. As if Cat couldn’t understand the muttered Spanish words under the other’s breath, she chose to ignore them. She had to bite her tongue so hard when Vanessa questioned their generous gesture. Now not only did Cat know Vanessa personally (just from passing by in the complex, things of that sort) - she knew of her. She was a GDI (a god damn independent - as the Greek’s called the non-affiliated persons) who dated a frat boy and hated every thing that had to do with Greek life. Swallowing for a moment before plastering her smile back on her face, Cat dropped her hand but not her facial expression. “If you don’t want the snack then nobody is forcing you to take it. Forgive me for offering,” she laughed out a faint fake laugh, turning around to replace the cup and napkin back on the table before turning back to face the other girl. “Were you curious about recruitment? I noticed you’re still standing here,” she asked, same smile intact.

While some people thought those students involved in Greek Life to be obnoxious partying people who wasted their parents’ money failing classes and getting drunk at all hours of the day - Catalina liked to believe she was the living proof of why that wasn’t the case. She loved her sorority - from the sisterhood to the philanthropy, Cat was proud to call herself a Delta Zeta. Cat was serving as recruitment chair for the upcoming semester’s rush and there was no better way to advertise than tabling - a sorority girl’s tried and true. With a few of her sisters in tow, Cat set up a table outside one of the most popular apartment complexes by campus. “Hi there! Happy move in day! The sisters of Delta Zeta are offering free cookies and lemonade for everyone! It’s definitely a hot one,” She grinned her sorority-perfected smile as she held out the napkin bearing a cookie and small plastic cup.
