It takes a moment for Ghost to realize exactly what the ring on Jamie’s middle finger (because of course it would be on that finger) is. And then a smile slowly spreads across his face, grinning widely at the unorthodox engagement ring.

He’s so happy, even if his granddaughter is showing off her engagement ring while still sporting the injuries of a high-speed chase.
Jamie’s scarred, freckled face flushed red, her GrandPare’s congratulations bringing back the memory of Hecate giving her the ring, explaining how it would allow the Elder God she called a Girlfriend. (Fiancee now, Jamie realised with a start) and other, less polite terms of endearment, to sense her across any distance, and how Jamie had responded flippantly with a “You’d have to get rid of me first Hex”
“*Yeah, it is pretty Cool*”

Apart from single-handedly putting down an invasion of nuke Obsessed Insectoids who are a few centuries behind us, getting engaged, taking apart four slaver/pirate networks, fighting a dragon, wrangling a Cyborg-thresher maw, and the robbery that just happened, my month has been pretty light*”
Jamie’s hands were a blur, trusting in Ghost’s synthetic mind and senses to be able to keep up with the massive information dump.
While the speed of Jamie’s signing would have likely been lost on anyone who lacked proficiency in sign language, Ghost can parse each individual sign just as quickly as Jamie can make them. Making the signs himself isn’t difficult either, but the rather mechanical, punctuated movements he makes while signing betrays his lack of experience using it naturally.

Ah, the joys of a physical body. Jamie hugs him the way he’s used to a krogan hugging him, affectionate strength and sometimes his feet leaving the floor. It doesn’t help that he’s short to begin with.
Jamie gets a one-armed hug around the shoulders in response, the other arm looking a bit useless at the moment.
He’s always heavy.
He’s half a foot shorter than she is, but his Synthetic form makes him way as much as large turian, or a tall man in armour.
Jamie lets go of Ghost and pulls the warped remains of her hearing aid from her ear and fed it into her Omni-tool to be Taken apart and reassembled.

She signs, still grinning, before putting up her hands to indicate that her next gesture wasn’t meant as a sign.
She held her right hand up in front of her face, palm facing to her, and pointed at the ornate, wooden ring Hecate had given her. It’s grain fluxed and changed like the shaoes of clouds, and, as would be expected considering her relationship with Hecate’s nature, it was on her middle finger.

Trust Jamie to go into a fight underequipped, outnumbered, and overconfident.
Well. Scratch the overconfident part. She’s just as confident as she needs to be, considering that she’s currently knocking on Ghost’s door which means she isn’t dead.
Possibly deaf as hell, from what she’s saying, but alive nonetheless.
Ghost opens the door, eyes her up and down, and raises an eyebrow.
“Um,” he says more to himself than to her, then brings his hand up to chest height to sign.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid
Jamie had really meant to have a nice, simple N7 day.
Lunch with her GrandPare, Some quick check-ins with some old C-Sec friends, dinner with her parents, Niko and Hex, then some nostalgic sight-seeing before heading out on the TatterHood in the morning.
But then some group of Morons decided that the distraction of N-Sevenbrations was a great cover to rob Presidium stores for all they had.
And then a dashingly attractive Spectre had decided to give chase unarmed beside a pocket Shield-Generator, a heavy pistol and the most powerful biotics in the galaxy, on foot, against a dozen thieves with the latest weaponry in a skycar.
Net result: Jamie was knocking on her GrandPare’s door, with her Jacket half burned, covered in cuts, her hearing aid melted, and her good ear ringing.
“Hello!? Grandpare! You home? You’ll need to open the door cause I can’t hear a thing!”

“No problem. Any reason it got delayed?”
He asks, wondering if something had been unexpected with the shuttle. Or if work tasks had piled on each other, forcing something to be left aside while more urgent matters were finished first.
Not that it really matters in the end, but Ghost is always curious.
“We had a short this morning in our diagnostic system, and it set us behind for the whole day. We prioritized yours, of course.”
She was nervous. This was Shepard, after all.
“Ah, no problem. Whatever needs to be done to get everything back on track.”
Would it ever be possible for him to stand in front of people and not make them nervous? Nah, probably not. He’s more or less accepted this, but he still tries to do his best not to be so intimidating.
“Hopefully your system stays fixed. Er, it is fixed, right?”

Hey Grandpare. It’s been a few Days Since I said I’D be dead if you didn’t hear from me in a few days, so this is the message saying, uhh, I’m not dead. Duh. So, yeah, I win. But, I have to push back visiting you on accounting of being really, really, really radioactive right now. Like, I could probably sterilize an Omega hotel room. I’m fine, Hurray for excessive Gene-mods and all, but I’ll poison most people I get near until It’s over, So, I am stuck going through de-radiation cycles for the next 92 hours. Fun. So, I will see you as soon as I stop making stuff glow. Unless something else comes up. Which it probably will. Love, Jamie.

Fuck. The relay in question'a already been activated. The only thing stopping the Tadzin from having attacked already is the fact that their ships are still using explosions to move around and are stuck at sub-light speed. Thanks anyways GrandPare. Hey, grandpare. Is there a way to turn deactivate a Mass Relay. Maybe a way to password lock one? No pressure. But there are a few billion lives hinging on this. Not that I can't handle it. But a yes Answer would make my life a lot easier, and more likely to continue past the next ten hours. Hex & my parents say hi.
It feels odd to receive messages this way; nobody, almost nobody ever sends messages. An infinitesimally tiny blip of information that barrels into his view, into his knowledge, carrying with it the personal thoughts of a living being.
That of his granddaughter, in this case.
It always comes to the forefront, the most important, the most attention, the most energy devoted to it for the brief moment it takes to parse and understand the contents. For Jamie, the reply she will receive will come almost immediately, faster than any person could read, understand, formulate an answer, type out a reply, and hit send. For Ghost, he will have spent almost no time at all either. His replies take only as long as it takes for him to ruminate, and he doesn’t tend to take very long doing that either.
Roughly two seconds after Jamie sends the message, she gets a response. The delay is only caused by the limitations of the omni-tool on the receiving end.
The only way to deactivate a Mass Relay is by destroying it. But it’s always possible to block someone from getting to it in the first place. Hello to them too.
