Jules eyes examined each finger stroke that laid over the hardback cover within cates grasp. It made the actress wonder if those choices were conscious ones, such small observations, but it seemed nothing was as such when it came to both woman. It was if many nights, events ect. had proven her and cate had mastered the art of sharing their body language by how they studied each other, their own secret verison of passing notes. So even after all those years, Julianna never missed a beat.“you could almost say wine and stuffed animals wins in this particular setting,’ what more could i ask for ? ” with her own nerves locked underneath a warming smile,’ the twinkle in her eyes became prominent to cates silliness,’ a humour Julianna was so fond of,’ the joyful curve in the corner of her lips brought the slightest wrinkles that scrunched upon the corner of her eyes that scanned the memories that laid on the others hands “we were something..” It was the mass of curls that got lost in cate that unfogged the knowing that she most definitely hadn’t wanted to be anymore else in that photograph “Bright eyed and bushy tailed” pointing at herself,’ with a chuckle “you on the other hand, cured a lot of bad days for people with that smile of yours, me included — one of my favourite times” taking in every little detail, Julianna's eyes never left that nostalgic setting that slipped through their fingers.
“I don’t think my publisher would let me stop either” the brunette joked, taking a swig of her red wine. It felt strange.’ to be sat there and hearing those specific words escape behind cates lips. Words that were spoken, dreams that were considered way back when, during a time her written work was only shared with the woman sitting beside her,’ certain particles of work the world would simply never see the light of day, some too intimate for anyone but Cate to have ever read “I—“ she paused “—thank you” there wasn’t enough wine in her system for what she was about to do,’ nor was there enough for her to not feel the heat rush to her face just yet. Maybe it was due to her mini burst of bravery, or the need for air, but once cate pointed her in the direction of the bathroom, her head fell into her hands. Looking into the mirror,’ knowing quite well her lack of conversation was due to the words that laid beneath the first page of the book, they were much more easier to express in words without completely embarrassing herself “Jesus, I need more wine…” she muffled to herself in the mirror. There was so much silence that fell,’ seconds felt like minutes again and those minutes felt like a lifetime. Her steps were light once enterting back into the room, practically halting herself by the door frame, capturing the back of the tall blondes figure, resting by the window. It was if her stomach couldn’t fall fast enough by the relief as cates accent took control of their presence. The words hit like daggers,’ from loss, to remembering such a silent heartbreak in great detail — biting the inside of her cheek felt as if she was fighting a battle already lost “I wish we had too…” the crack in her tone was a whisper, her entire body froze with such an energetic burst all at once as she shook as the emotions that were trying to barge their way in. Taking several breaths, Julianna paced herself back towards the coffee table, grabbing both their glasses in the process “Here —” handing cate her glass, she hadn’t missed a single beat “I missed you too” setting her wine upon the windowsill, Julianna reached down to fill the emptiness within the others hand “you didn’t deserve anything less than special, extravagant and magical — I just hope one single page captured enough to say what i wanted to the second i sent you that text"she hadn’t let their gaze drop, their equally twinkling eyes from the tears that laid behind them both, managed to already say so much more than either could right now.’ It wasn’t an easy situation to begin with.leaning in, Julianna placed a sweetened kiss upon her cheek, the saltiness from her damped skin mixed in between “i’m gonna be honest,’ I regret so little in life,’ but letting you slip away was one of my biggest ones — despite everything i still lost my best friend” her thumb gently rubbed over cates palm, a comfort they both needed,’ yet for Julianna, a very conscious decision “or so i thought”
The emotions were flooding and there was no way Cate was able to hide away how Julianna’s words had affected her. She was hard trying to calm her breathing when she heard Julianna’s steps coming back to the living room, the blond ran her hands over her face to dispel the shocked expression that probably was still drawn over her face but she still didn’t dare to turn around and face the brunette who apparently was approaching her while the actress had still her eyes looking out the window, the view of New York City making the whole atmosphere even more nostalgic because the city was probably the only witness of the special friendship they shared a few years ago that seemed like a century. Cate looked at her side as Julianne broke the distance and also the silence between them, her eyes went from the glass of wine that was being offered to her to Julianna’s face with a subtle smile as she accepted the glass “Thank you” she said more like a whisper and brought the glass to her lips to taste the red wine that now helped her to clear her throat and encourage her to speak “It is really special. I was not expecting something like this —I mean, I know you have something of poet and you know how to make magic with words but this was special more than special” she smiled again, this time with more confidence than earlier. Cate turned around to face her completely “As much as I wish I did not have any regrets in life. I have the same feeling. I constantly think I should have done more; I should have stayed and fight —I thought it would be easy just to erase the past and move on, I even thought it would be easy to remain as friends but it was practically impossible and I am sorry about that. I am sorry for have lost contact with you and I might not be present in every step of the way, but I always was aware of what you were doing and always so proud of you and the things you’ve achieved” Cate made a pause and touched Julianna’s arm gently and fleetingly to pass by and walk over the coffee table where she had left the book, the blonde sat down on the couch opening the book again and smiling “including this... I know I will find out more things to love about you once I start reading even though I am one of the lucky ones to know a lot about you, I think I knew everything until the the start of the new millennium after that, probably everything is going to be new for me and I will love to get to know you again” Cate’s blue eyes were now staring at Julianne “This is a new beginning, right? from now and on I want to get to know you better and that you get to know me again and who I am now” Cate reached out her hand to Julianna expecting her to take her hand as a signal of this new and meaningful moment.
