Original photo by Kendall Redlitz Theme: death: something to fear or a release? I chose this picture mainly because it depicts fire, and one of the many connotations of fire is death. I think this picture is perfect for this question because in the picture one can see the flames engulfing the wood, however the wood is being engulfed in an almost tranquil fashion. It seems dangerous and yet intriguing. Is it possible that fire, like death, can be both terrifying and calming?

THIS IS A COPY OF AN EMAIL I SENT TO A PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY. PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY AND MESSAGE ME IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION. Hello. You work with an extensive pharmaceutical company, right? I’m contacting you on behalf of my mother. I became worried about her a couple weeks ago when I began to notice some strange behavior. She started forgetting things, more frequently and drastically than previously. My mother is getting a little older yes, but not old enough to suffer memory loss to that degree. Whenever I brought this up, she acted suspiciously. She always brushed the accusations off of course, but she always seemed like she was hiding something. The other day, I was rummaging through her things, when I found a glass of pills underneath a radiator cover. It contained pills of a kind I don’t recognize. The medication is called ‘Dylar’. I have searched and searched but cannot find any information on it, what it does, or how my mother came to obtain it. I have sent you a package containing two of the pills, although I thought it best to send this email first, so that you could begin research. Thank you for help. Denise Gladney

In the multitude of my natural friends, I consider the brook by far the superior. It forgives better than any other, Forever flowing along, forever moving on, never halted in anger. It is the truest, For although it always advances, in addition it always stays. It is the fairest, For no creature could overlook its elegance. And, of most importance, it is the most worthy of trust, For it never attempts to hide the darkness within it and always reflects its light out.
We gaze continually at the world and it grows dull in our perceptions. Yet seen from another vantage point, it may still take our breath away

THEME: Order. Does it provide structure or chaos?

I chose this photo because traffic itself is something that is supposed to be very ordered. The lights attempting to prevent collisions, the neatly painted lines keeping everyone in their lane, the crosswalks ensuring pedestrian's rights: they all are little bits of order imposed on us for our good. And yet, all this order and structure creates immense traffic which can be very chaotic and stressful. However, without this order wouldn't driving be mad even more chaotic and unsafe? I think this picture shows the attempted order and the chaos that somehow still ensues because of it.
Dylar Observations
I have been taking the prescribed amount of...a substance daily for the last two months but I do not notice a difference. Should I be worried? Is there something wrong with me and my brain? Was I am idiot for believing that maybe just maybe this solution would at last award me peace from the problems plaguing my brain? Will I ever be relieved of this all consuming fear? My family members are starting to take notice. They see a change in my memory. That reminds me I need to pick my daughter up from school at 3:00. Or is it 4:00? - Bbet444

Another day, another morning in the Rockefeller military base. Jon lies next to me, but he doesn't sleep. With a mother like mine, I always knew my life would never be "normal" but I could have never pictured one like this. I love Jon, but he's so distant. I feel lonely when he's working, but sometimes it feels like being in his company only makes me more lonely. Am I unhappy? I really don't know. What is it to be happy or unhappy?

A Day in the life of Gatsby: I saw her today
I saw her today. Just barely. I arose from a fitful sleep and ran to the window, sometime in the early morning, my soul clenching at the possibility of catching a glimpse of her. I looked through the telescope and there she was. In all her loveliness she radiated against the bright green grass, out shining the sun itself with her rays of light. I saw her today, but I anxiously for the day that she will see me.
