really like the fresh angle knights of guinevere takes as a disney critique. it's not so much "fuck you disney lmao" like everyone was expecting, it's moreso "there's value in the stuff disney makes, it's just reduced to mush by people that don't value it". i mean shit, guinevere is the representation of this show's thesis -- an entity that's still treasured dearly by frankie, and it had to escape being held hostage by its makers that were literally ripping its insides out for profit

Besides being an obvious dig at Disney, the fact that Guinevere isnt allowed to have wrinkles is another facet of her dehumanisation. She cant frown or wrinkle or express herself, or else she won’t be “perfect”. Her android body is programmed for this.

Despite this, her face displays crinkles and folds whenever she’s having very strong emotions–

–Why is why its so meaningful when she sincerely thanks Frankie for helping, her lovely smile drops. She’s so desperately starved of this gentle touch, she’s literally going against her programming , overwhelmed by her first act of kindness in a long, long time.

(Probably the first time in a long while that somebody touched her to fix her, and didnt painfully take her apart step by step, guts and blood spilling everywhere. God.)

I’ve seen a lot of jokes about Frankie seeing the Gwen android and being like “oh that’s gore that’s gore of my comfort character” but I think it’s really cool how that is not her actual mentality even a little bit. She sees that android and the immediate thing she thinks is “damn I don’t recognize what model she is” like she still has just as much love and care for it as she would for any other version of Gwen cause after all the princesses is the princess even if she’s old and broken she’s still has worth to Frankie and I just think that’s really lovely. Frankie says “That’s my comfort character, though I don’t fully recognize her it’s unquestionably her so I’ll give her the love she deserves.”

I can't help but think about how ironic it is that Frankie seems like the ideal Park customer who believes in the magic to the point where she doesn't see the darkness underneath, but when you think about it, she didn't get the magical park experience that Park Planet sells, because the Gwendroid she met was defective. She had a visible mechanical flaw, and Frankie repaired her, and in turn she got what might have been a genuine emotional reaction from the Gwen as opposed to the pre-programmed Park messages.

The corporate canon is perfection. No wrinkles, symmetrical eyelashes, file off the points. Imperfection is too real, too messy, so we prune it ruthlessly and throw the trash to the surface. But Frankie....Frankie got something real, and that's why she keeps coming back to it.

The joy I feel at Frankie being a wide eyed idealist who wants to be an engineer working towards making children's dreams come true, has adorable earrings and a fun hacking frog, who has fantasies about saving princesses and talking to her little mechanical toys... Is also a beautiful fat person who bites people, drinks, steals, swears, and whose adorable hacking frog twerks as it hacks.

None of those aspects are contradictory. She is all of this and more.
