BOY LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS CARELESS IIIIIII COULD BE TORN BETWEEN TWO ROADS AND I JUST CANT DECIDEEEEEE
The animation of Shouto's action movements in "More" (from Jason Yao)
I really love how Jason Yao conceptualised pro-hero Shouto's movements as an adult. There are a lot of little details that show the precision and increased control.
First, I note how in the "skating part" Shouto is not moving on pure ice , but on small blasts of phosphor coming from both feet, depicted green, rather than the blue of his ice. This technique allows Shouto to move fast without leaving ice residue on the road.
I also love how his movements are similar to a speed skater rather than the kind of "ice surfing" pose he used to have
His technique also allows to seemlessly transition from speed to power as he winds up his move with a 360 turn stop, using the momentum itself to power and shape his move
He doesn't just mindlessly lob the ice in the van's direction. The compress-release method is visible as he's aiming with his new gauntlet. The compression is depicted with the same star-shaped sparkles as used for Bakugou's cluster. The circle shows how Shouto's aim is precise, like a sniper's. This all leads to a controlled release. The way he bursts with power is visible in his forearm and fingers.
It's really cool how we switch afterward to the ice's perspective. We can see that starting the move from a turn actually makes the ice also curve around. It gives time for the other three to jump out of the way and it targets the van in a very precise line. The way Shouto's teammates are moving even without looking back shows that they know exactly where and how the ice will hit and they don't need to worry being caught up in it.
As a final cool detail, I want to mention the green arcs of flashfire that we see - reminding us that Shouto's movements are not ice only, but firmly powered by his two-sided movements, first seen in Shouto origin
I have started to follow in more detail the work of animators in Bones in S4-5 which is when Jason Yao joined the staff. I've always been amazed how much thought he put into his animation concepts and it was amazing to see his incredible growth through these years. I'm super happy that he conceptualized pro hero Shouto's technique for us really going back to the root, but in a way that shows Shouto's control, his use of Phosphor and the way he evolved in the 8 years we didn't see.

THIS MOVE WAS SO FUCKING SMOOTH WHATTTT
this is so cute … they did a commercial together. they had to pose and recite lines together.. they had to smile at the camera and be like “hero work is so hard but at least i have my BAR to keep me energized ..” together
