I know that showing support right now may feel weird to some of you. I know that some people are looking around and thinking, well injustice happens all the time, discrimination happens all the time, blacks aren’t the only ones suffering every day with racism, the system has been fucked since forever. Well, I understand. I understand that some people feel guilty for ‘only now’ staring to say something or for saying something ‘only for black people’ when so many others have been and are still suffering.
Well let me tell you. Revolution, or change or whatever it is you want to call it, has to start somewhere. In history you see major events happen triggered by something that for some reason succeeds in getting people’s attention, or when people are just so fed up with things that they have to start wars. Look around you. How can we have let it get to this point? How can we let discrimination and hate and murder and racism just keep being an every day thing that we’re used to???
You showing support now doesn’t mean you don’t support others, it doesn’t mean you don’t care for others, it doesn’t mean we are more or less important than others suffering. It will hopefully shine a brighter light on this, make people more aware of this, make people more interested in learning. It will help not only take down a system that doesn’t see other colors aside from white, but also, make people self-reflect, make people pay attention, make people feel guilty.
Black is the color of this movement because we’ve all had ENOUGH! Because all our fights thorough history haven’t done it. Because we all saw that video of a human being, being murdered for nothing, for hate and can’t fucking believe that this is still happening. Because racist privileged people can’t keep getting away with killing us! Because right now, right as we speak there’s people risking their lives and going out to try and wake people up and make a change!
Staying silent right now is just not an option. Staying silent is being condescending.
All lives matter is a beautiful concept that black people support. It is a concept that shouldn’t even have to be said, just like black lives matter shouldn’t have to start a war to be heard. We all want everyone to be seen as equal. We all want to help each other and be in the same positions of privileged people. We all want to not have opportunities taken away from us, for what we look like, we all want our kids to grow up not feeling like they’re less than others, we all want to go to a store and not be followed because they think we’re gonna steal, we all want to call the police and not be murdered for being a certain color, we all want to be safe. Of course all of us matter! We shouldn’t have to scream it! But right now blacks are DYING! And need support. Right now the way you can help everyone that suffers racism is by supporting black lives matter, for I see the impact this is having in educating people. It helps bring awareness to color and race discrimination in general. You’re not putting anyone down by supporting BLM, you’re helping everyone.
So don’t feel bad. Speak up, use your voice, use your platforms, get informed, inform others, even if it’s just inside your house with your family or friends. You don’t need to go out or put your life at risk, but you have a voice and it doesn’t cost you anything to make use of it. It doesn’t enter my mind that this is even a question. That openly talking and expressing yourself as being against racism is even a question!
You ‘knowing’ that you’re not racist isn’t enough!
Don’t be silent. Don’t ignore this. Show where you stand. Show your support.
