A wonderful cat wedding by comedy pal and friend Andy Rocco!
My friend Anoush is pretty darn cool. She’s a cartoonist, a performance artist and a fashion designer, and while she never stated what’s going on here, I am assuming that these are two cats on their honeymoon. You know, just hanging out in a laundry basket. That’s cat Hawaii.
I had no idea my friend and Snap Impression co-creator Ramsey Ess was such a good artist. He sent me this, and I was like, “Zorp!?!” When I showed this to my dear fiancee, she said, “Whoa, can that be our wedding invitation?”.
Hey, here’s a cat wedding that I asked Cloudfather to do back when this was still something I was doing with my old sketch group Wrestling Team. Two psychedelic cats just tyin’ the knot!Â
More cat weddings coming in the future!
This is JZT's cat wedding. I don't know John very well, but I think he's a funny guy. That's basically the bonds of our friendship. Once we got together and thought up some stuff we could do for Channel 101. The best idea was an action-packed detective series with a 70-year-old private eye. I'd still like to do that some day.
Will Storie directed a musical a friend and I wrote in 2012, and while we were rehearsing one day, I saw some drawings of his in a notebook, and asked him to make a cat wedding. The male cat in this pretty much captures the existential fear that comes along with the acknowledgment of the fact that there's a possibility of change in all human endeavors and emotions, and we are helpless against the onslaught of this irreducible fact about our predicaments.
Here's another older one from Jesse PS, host of the Podawful podcast. Jesse can be a somewhat controversial figure, but I like how his cat wedding was sweet. I want to believe these two cat-people were alone for a long time, and spied each other across the cafeteria at a hospital (he was there visiting his father who had a bladder operation; her first husband was in a coma). They comforted each other, and two years later, after her husband was declared permanently braindead, they decided to have a small civil service at the local courthouse.
This is a "cat wedding" from improviser and artist Rocco Marrongelli. I should say, I asked him to make this while we were both at the party for the Del Close Marathon years ago when I was way too drunk, and apparently that, plus the loud party around us, made it sound like I was asking for a "cat writing". Let's just say that he's writing out his vows for his wedding this evening.
Here's a fun one my friend Joe Stanton made! Joe's a stand-up and all-around funny dude, and you can check out his Tumblr here - and you should!
This is a fun one created by Dan McCoy of The Daily Show and the great podcast The Flop House.
This one was made by Shannon Dry, who was always one of my favorite improvisers around the scene, and for a time she kept a Tumblr of comics she was making. I dug them a lot, so I asked her to make a cat wedding. This, of course, predates all the Red Wedding/Billy Idol memes that were flying through the cybersphere, and hey, a Red Wedding/Cat Wedding mash-up wouldn’t be bad!
This is a fun one from friend Anoush Froundjian. I really love Anoush's drawings, and she's done some really rad/weird art projects, all worth your attention.
This is a cat wedding by Graham Mason of Sunset Television. This is actually the first cat wedding I ever commissioned. I think I had asked for a stabbing in the background, but maybe that was just Graham's addition. The true answer is lost to the sands of time.
This is a cat wedding my friend Adam drew for my old sketch duo Wrestling Team. Adam's a great comic artist - you should check out his stuff!
