Youth Dreamers, Inc.
One youth led organization is called the Youth Dreamers, Inc. The organization is located in Baltimore, MD. The purpose of the organization is to provide a safe haven for local young people and provides them with the opportunity to engage in positive activities after school. Youth Dreamers, Inc. began as an elective course of nine students. The class discussed issues surrounding the community and how they could be solved. As a result, The Dream House was opened as a solution to help the community and help guide local youth. They engage in activism through workshops and programs that are designed to engage youth in positive activity and community service.
My Music Interview Reflection
The topic I was assigned was music and youth. I interviewed a 23 yr old male and asked him his thought on questions pertaining to the the topic. The male that I interviewed is a teacher and I was surprised by some of his answers. The thing that interested me the most was the fact that he thinks music should not be more censored. I found this interesting because he is a teacher and also a father. Raising a child and knowing that the language and metaphors in music is only going to get worse, I would think he would want it to be more censored in future generations. I learned that everyone has different parenting styles and seemingly everyone uses music to live vicariously in one way or the other.
The above story is about a teenage girl who got into a fight at school. The story is episodic because they focus on individuals at a specific place at a specific time. If I were trying to re-frame the story I would present it as a typical school fight and not include the fact that the girl has juvenile charges.
The photo above shows youth protesting. As it relates to Giroux, "Only a well-organized movement of young people, educators, workers, parents, religious groups, and other concerned citizens will be capable of changing the power relations and vast economic inequalities that have generated what has become a country in which it is almost impossible to recognize the ideals of a real democracy".
Job prospects shrink for Michigan Teens, young adults
My written response is on the Fox 2 broadcast about the shortage of jobs available for teens and young adults. The footage claims are that more youth are in limbo than ever before and are unemployed and out of school. I chose to respond to this piece because my previous post was that of CNN reporting that more jobs are becoming available. The CNN report was in April 2012 while the Fox report was in December 2012- an eight month difference which show contradicting statistics on job availability. Although, CNN focused more on college students and Fox focused on youth primarily as a group not sub group. However, I agree that opportunities for youth are diminished by experienced workers and fewer job availability because is it shown statistically and there are less youth employed.
The above video is about college students in the job market that are under-employed and the rate of unemployment in comparison to available jobs in the U.S.. The intended message of the content is that more jobs are becoming available as baby boomers are beginning to retire. The message is applicable to "college students" a sub group of youth.

The above pictures display youth in action at an academic games tournament. In the first picture you can see them getting help, in picture two you actually see them during game play. This picture tells us that youth are engaging in extra curricular activities that challenge their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
The 1960s might have been called the Sexual Revolution, but apparently they were just the beginning.
The above quote comes from Generation Me written by Jean M. Twenge, Ph.D. I believe this answers the question, "is hooking up a passing moment of the Millennial experience or will future generations continue this practice?". The Sexual Revolution was the beginning of "hooking up", and since has not stopped. I believe this quote suggest that there will be a continuation for generations to come.
The name of the subculture I chose are rappers, particularly N.W.A.. This group is a subculture because they arise in dominant social order and represented a threat to social norms. This subculture was located in California and the participants are African American, males of a low SES. The relationship with mainstream or dominant culture was that people were against their music and lyrics and wanted to band it from the media.
Title: The Millennial Teenager
Source: OnlineSchools.com
This infographic displays statistics on digital/technology usage of the typical American teenager. It starts off providing percentages of teens that have a phone, laptop, ipod/mp3, etc. It then provides more information about the content teens put on their social media pages and how they connect with others through the internet. It also provides answers to common questions such as “does texting destroy good grammar". It ends with statistics on whether too much media is bad for teens, this is done by comparing those teens that heavily use media to those who only use media lightly. They’re compared by grades, how often they get in trouble, and their general happiness.
This infographic pretty much sums up what Joel Stein wrote about in his Time Magazine article, The Next Great Generation. In the article, Stein mentions how connected the millennial generation is. “Now that cell phones allow kids to socialize at every hour—they send and receive an average of 88 texts a day, according to Pew—they’re living under the constant influence of their friends," Stein says in the article. This generation is always connected whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat. In a nutshell, his article depicts what is reflected in this infograph, the fact that today’s teenagers have no memory of life before cell phones and Internet.
I think that this is a creative graphic description of millennials. It breaks down statistics and ultimately defines the average life of a millennial. It also challenges myths with explanation as to why it is false with the use of percentages to provide a range. I would include at least one minimal representation of the baby boomer generation statistic to show comparison and contrast to display the changes in generations over time.

I am 95% millennial. I thought this was interesting because I thought my responses to some of the questions would be different than my peers.
Above listed are three tips for working between generations. Tips are provided for working with millennials such as mentoring, self teaching resources, and giving support to unique career paths.

"People will cooperate and commit to a society only as long as they can choose the person who mediates and voice an opinion on the rules". -Molly Edmonds
"Millennials are a generation mostly of teens and 20-somethings known for constantly holding up cameras, taking pictures of themselves, and posting them online". -Joel Stein
Talking about Youth
"Young people of the past were constricted in a variety of ways, from gender roles to economics, which prevented them from using their late teens and twenties for exploration. In contrast, today's emerging adults have unprecedented freedom". -Arnett 2004
