i know i post a lot of ooc when it comes to this blog but i just? love analyzing this absolute fuck and his motivations? technically he has every reasonĀ to behave as he does, even if itās not an excuse; after all, the only world heās known is one thatās dead and cold and where being brutally efficient and powerful are two of the best methods to survive, unless youāre the cowardly type that can avoid being noticed. he started off as the latter in my headcanon but became the former later, over quite the extended period of forcing himself to become stronger so heāll be more self-sufficient and capable. however, in the process of doing that heās lost almost every shred of empathy and compassion he once had, which has left him a hollow shell with naught but his loyalty to primal dialga and an inability to believe that anything could change.
itās been a quiet headcanon of mine ever since i first played the game that he was, in fact, affected deeply by visiting the past and realizing just how different and how incredible it is, but couldnāt let himself acknowledge this or the possibilities it brought - being rendered into nonexistence by altering history itself was not something he could ever accept, even if he had next to nothing to live for.Ā all heās got is aforementioned loyalty and determination - no, stubbornnessĀ - to survive no matter what, even if said survival is completely devoid of living with actual meaning or potential. striving to maintain and continue existing, no matter how pointless said existence is, became such a focus that he lost sight of anything else, which then leads to the events of the side episode, in which he slowly becomes aware of precisely what heās become and how deeply horrifying the reality heās left himself with actually are.
define me by three things; the agony I have endured, the agony I have seen, and the agony I have given.
[ ... ]
Nope. Not going to ask.
fun facts that seem like they go by under the radar for dusknoir: he spent literal years [ or, as close as you can get when time doesnāt move ] studying the past in order to be more effective at traversing it and taking down people trying to travel back and change it, which means that heās incredibly well informed about the poke.mon and events that occurred. this also means that heās come across many, manyĀ stories from other times and duly noted these down as well just in case, though since thereās so little left of the human race much of what they know is lost, even for him. when in said past - as long as the future he knows is held true and unchanged - he can predict things ridiculously well and uses this to his advantage, as well as knowing much of who or what he might potentially run into.
i also feel like the fact that heās killed a lot of people goes underestimated as well, but thatās probably a discussion for another time. heās a cruel, merciless bastard thatāll do anything to keep the future as what it is, even if it makes everyone suffer horribly, himself included.Ā
misanthropecopy:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āAnd you know what peace is, I take it?ā Psyche telepathically chimed in, seemingly to have appeared out of thin air. Normally she would not come and show herself this blatantly, even towards a fellow PokĆ©mon. However this particular one was something clone never FATHOMED that she would have to deal with, outside of possibly Celebi or Dialga.
A time traveler.
Ā Ā Ā Ā From the depths of ghost-typeās haphazardly mind Psyche had seen things she could only DREAM about, along with some events that would disturb her to no end. A world where humans were practically nonexistence; it sounded like a place which experiment could truly experience full freedom, but also made her question what exactly happened to mankind? There was also the matter as to what role this particular Dusknoir played, in his lifetime and why he was here now. As a result, Mewtwo regarded him with an unamused countenance as tail swayed in suspicion.
Oho, now wasnāt this interesting?
Consider him surprised, which was rare enough in itself; heād been contemplating the differences between this time and his own before the other showed, allowing a short and rare moment of reflection that he probably shouldnāt have, so the question caught him off guard. He really ought to keep an eye out for these sorts of things, shouldnāt he? Particularly since he only had the one, but never mind that line of thought. Dusknoir took a moment to look her over, doing naught to hide his interest - yes, heād heard of her before, but mostly in scattered ancient tales that dated back millennia in the time heād come from, and which well warned him of both how strong she was and how woefully unprepared heād been when coming here.Ā
Still, that didnāt mean he didnāt have his own talents.Ā
ā Not really. āĀ he replied honestly, now crossing his arms.
He did nothing to hide other thoughts, reflecting quite openly on the state of things in the time from which heād come - a world swathed in darkness, one in which time was frozen and even the slightest of breezes was nonexistent, let alone the dappled light filtering down between the trees or the trickling of what he suspected to be water off in the distance. A world in which all plant life was dead, all movement ceased, only Poke.mon that could survive - like ghosts, for instance - and few small, scattered groupings of people left that dwelled underground and somehow managed to produce their own food in spite of the situation. But there were so little of them now that it wouldnāt surprise him if they disappeared in time, and this too he shared; he even let slip the fact that his role was a subservient one to Dialga, though didnāt linger on that.Ā
And, then, he offered a shrug - his body language was nigh unreadable but the wistfulness with which he noted how beautiful it was here was blatantly apparent.
āĀ I suppose every time has its problems, doesnāt it? But ours are particularly devastating. You wouldnāt happen to have come across a human and a Grovyle traveling together, would you? I need to find them.Ā ā
It was then the ghost let one other thing slip, slightest of smiles making his eye crease: I know you can read my thoughts. Perhaps for another this would mean little, but for him it meant a number of things - since he knew this he could focus on whatever he wished and drive more pertinent detail further down, mask it with whatever else he wished to be thinking on at that moment. Truth was, he really couldnāt deny that he found the challenge quite invigorating; how much actual information could she glean from even his own mind? Perhaps that ought to be put to the test.
random little things i thought about [more tbh] today:
the pmd games being set far in the future from the main series games [this also means that the darkened future is even further along timeline-wise]
humans are an endangered species and some cataclysmic event ripped their society apart
without said event poke.mon wouldnāt have started creating their own societal structure and towns
instead of just being thrown off course grovyle, the hero, and dusknoir end up being flung waaaaaaay into the past, back into the time when humans were in charge
hero and grovyle end up traveling to try and figure out how to get to the right time period; dusknoir follows them and lowkey convinces gym leaders and other people in power that theyāre planning something terrible
hereās one of the things that fucks me up about dusknoir: heās the second to last boss you fight in the pmd: eos main storyline, right? and, yet [for me at least] his battle felt awkwardly easy if you had the right strategy in place. his moveset was atrocious, he seemed like he ought to at leastĀ be a little higher in level + more challenging. but, tāis a game for all ages, so methinks that got toned back a bit to make the fight, you know. doable.Ā still, youāre not even allowed to tryĀ to fight him directly earlier on. grovyle even gives up and admits that itās hopeless at one point; thatās a discussion for another time, though.
tldr i was a little disappointed so for this blog iām going by personal headcanon when it comes to exactly how strong he is and how intimidating he is on top of that.Ā
early morning concept: a verse where there are rumors about a mysterious ghost-type poke.mon wandering various regions thatās said to be particularly powerful and potentially uncatchableĀ
ēµ”ćæé
so, a few little things:
iām going to be updating the rules at some point, theyāre severely outdated
an about page and a [brief] verses page are also in the works; iāve yet to decide his level or current moves, let alone what point the mainverse is going to be set at. if there are few / no pmd blogs i might just set it in an au where he ended up in the wrong universe due to shenanigans
iāve got a job now! this unfortunately means iām quite busy, so iāll try to be on when i can. you can also find me at revexant or hivcminded if iām not here
ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦workin on some pmd stuff
