AsĀ GleeĀ winds down,Ā Chris ColferĀ is creating more opportunities for himself by going deeper into theĀ Land of Stories. The Golden Globe-winning actor and NY Times bestselling author has inked a new five-book deal with publisher Little, Brown to expand the popular childrenās fiction franchise he launched with 2012āsĀ The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell.Ā
That title exploded onto the bestseller list and spawned three sequels, with the fourthĀ Land of StoriesĀ title set to hit shelves next year. Colferās new pact includes the fifth and final book in theĀ Land of StoriesĀ series and a boxed set with new companion volumesĀ Queen Red Riding Hoodās Guide to RoyaltyĀ andĀ The Mother Goose Diaries, to be released in fall 2015.
Colfer is also penning a pair of spin-off pictureĀ booksĀ inspired byĀ LandĀ lore and aimed at younger readers:Ā The Curvy Tree, illustrated by Brandon Dorman and release next fall, and a second original picture book in 2016 highlighting the character Trollbella.Ā
Colferās also plotting a new untitled YA novel for teens following the success of his first tome, Struck By Lightning, which was adapted into a feature film that he wrote and starred in. Tribeca Films released the indie drama in 2013. This new coming-of-age novel alights on a young television actor, who is joined by fans on a once-in-a-lifetime cross-country road trip. Smart move: That set-up is obviously primed to be another starring vehicle for the 24-year-old actor, who rounds out his run on Foxās hit show Glee this year as the series concludes in its sixth and final season.
Colfer first revealed the upcoming slate of titles to his 2.49 million followers on Twitter. Meanwhile, his as-yet untitled fourth book in theĀ Land of StoriesĀ series is heading for shelves on July 7, 2015.Ā
The deal was brokered by Rob Weisbach of Rob Weisbach Creative Management with Little, Brownās Andrew Smith and Alvina Ling, who will edit the new titles. Colfer is repped by Inphenate, Rob Weisbach Creative Management, Coast to Coast, and ICM Partners.
