with a heavy thud, she plops herself down on the seat with a grunt. it was annoying that she had to come here. for such a small, itty bitty mistake. i mean, killing the wrong guy is just a small little mishap! nothing wrong. a little push under the rug &. wipe your hands, all is forgiven. "we need to talk." she mocks him lightly. "you know i didn't mean to do it."
Narrowed blue eyes look at up her. Usually, he let the cutesy behavior of hers slide, amused by it more than anything else. What wasn't so cute was her recent act of incompetence. She failed to nail the right guy, slaying the wrong one in the process, which was leading to big problems on ole Dally's part.
Azalea had her usefulness. Dallas was a sucker for a wolf in sheep's clothing. The more inconspicuous, the better. Her slender frame and pretty face did not scream killer. However, her recent fuck up, was being screamed about on every news station, every paper, every shared social media post throughout the state. Drawing lots and lots of unwanted attention. See, the wrong guy wasn't a nobody. He was an officer of the law. A police sergeant. A beloved member of the community who apparently did a lot of good, Dallas read on quite a few Facebook posts. Husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, hero, blah, blah, blah. A man who was already missed. The kind of man who had friends in high places, friends who had many questions. They'd grab their K9's and get them sniffing, looking for whatever they could for an answer. Who knew who long it would take those mutts to catch the scent of Azalea... and then ultimately lead them knocking on Dallas' door.
Azalea fuck up and it could lead to him getting fucked over. Simply put, Dallas wasn't having any of that.
No sound could deafen like the quietness in the room the two found themselves in. He let her sit in it, letting the coldness in his eye freeze her over. Until finally, he spoke.
"I want you to tell me why you killed that nice policeman."
Levi felt sick the moment someone whispered into his ear as he sat at the bar. He'd been in the middle of charming some older man into buying him a Rolex. The blonde lingered in the doorway for far too long before his gaze dropped to the chair. He can tell by the others expression this isn't something he can talk his way out of. Levi knows Dallas isn't easy like that. Not for Levi at least. He sits down and immediately shifts in the seat. He feels very exposed, vulnerable, sitting beneath the others gaze. "What's wrong?" He asks softly in a way he saves for clients. "Has something happened?"
Tender and sweet or nervous and cheap? Dallas tried not to think much of the whores who worked under him. They were a means to an end; an additional stream of income to pay for the lavish things of life. Something about Levi though, something about him made the thoughts linger. Dallas could sometimes be kinder to him than he was with the others. Sometimes, he was harder on him.
Dallas didn't immediately divulge into his suspicions. He was a man who took his time. A man who chose his words carefully. A man who liked to watch the other squirm when he could. Instead of speaking, the boss pulled out a pack of reds from his pocket. He stuck one in his mouth. Flicked the lighter a few times to get it to light up. Inhaled. Exhaled. Blew the smoke right into his face without so much of a second thought. His eyes looked right into the boy across him.
"Do I look like a fool to you?" Dallas flicked the cigarette some. "Like I've got my face painted and a big ole red nose along with it?" Another inhale of smoke. Followed by an exhale. "Do you think of me as a clown, Levi?"
following ( his ) order feels like chewing on copper wire, but after a second or two he sits; splays out with two firm plops of grimy boots, bracketing whatever this is with an unspoken 'alright, i'm here.' he takes a pull off the cigarette he walked in past the no smoking sign with. waiting.
Not everything meets the eye when it comes to Dallas Bennett, there was a heart somewhere deep inside that body of his. As a boy, he'd often come home with stray animals. Dogs, cats, whatever his then small hands could get hold of, offering a type of kindness only a stranger could behold. Over the years, life took him in the direction it did but, Dallas still had a habit of taking in strays.
That's how he ended up with ole Elvis here.
Kindness came with a price, cause you don't get shit for free with Dallas. Elvis was given an opportunity, if dealing drugs could be counted as such. If he was smart, Elvis wouldn't fuck this up. The older man didn't know just how to categorize him yet.
"You're short." His voice was flat. A straight shooter, he never missed the target. "Why?" Dallas had no time for bullshit.
