As a titleholder within the Miss America Organization it is always important to portray yourself in a positive light. The link above is a project I created for my New Media class regarding how to correctly use social media to promote your best asset- yourself! When used correctly social media can be a great way to make connections and spread the word about yourself the things you are doing within your community and student life!
Through my May New Media class I have learned how to successfully use social media! As an ag student hoping to combine the two fields in a future career this link helped me understand ways to better use social media to market your own personal brand!
Women are breaking the glass ceiling, or should I say breaking up the fields for planting. This article, from "Feed the Future" details how much women are involved, how they are measured within their involvement, and where someone can see how much they are involved. Great news for a young woman who will soon be seeking a career in the Agriculture Industry!
Recent storm damage taken in Whiteside County in Illinois. While the sight of a storm rolling in can be a majestic thing, it can also be a devastating foreshadow for many farmers. Whether it be laying corn flat in a field, ruining outbuildings, or hurting livestock, a storm rolling can be seen as a loss in the financial statements of a farmer.
Being an Illinois native, I stay closely connected to the happenings of Illinois Agriculture. This is a link to the Illinois Department of Agriculture's website detailing a farmer's market returning to the state fairgrounds for the 6th straight season. I have been both a participant and a buyer of farmer's market, all over Illinois! We have a small garden in our backyard at home, and often when we receive a good garden crop will take some produce to a local farmers market. While we don't make enough to quit our day jobs, we walk away with enough to buy some more seeds plus some extra! And if my family and I are driving along and happen to see a sign for a farmers market, you can bet we will stop!
Every Dream Starts Somewhere- If I had not been a part of 4-H as a young girl, I would not have the opportunity I do today. Being a member of the WTAMU horse judging team is a dream, with the ability to become a certified judge is a reality I never thought was possible. Being exposed to professionals within the industry is one of many ways to gain insight and understanding on how to become the most beneficial positive asset I can possibly become. This fall I will set my sights and goals high as I compete in both the Quarter Horse Congress and World Show Judging Contest! Just one more step on the path to not only my career, but my passion as well.

As a young girl, I knew my passion was Agriculture. Growing up on the family farm only instilled the values and responsibility one can only learn living and working off the land. Whether it be watching Grandpa plant corn from the kitchen window, or prepping my show horses or goats for the county fair, I am proud to have been raised on the family farm. This year the Robb Family Farm was granted the Illinois Centennial Family Farm Award, which means the farm has been in the Robb name for 100 years. So for 100 years, my family has considered Agriculture as more than just a living- for us it is a way of life.
Events happen daily in the Agriculture industry which influences all those with Ag-related careers. Whether it be working as a financial analyst for John Deere or harvesting with a John Deere Combine, everyone involved in Agriculture must be aware of what is going on in the industry. This link details the happenings of the 2013 Farm Bill and what changes will be happening, and what will not be changing.
As a student who is striving, and paying, for a career in the Agricultural industry, it is always good to know the field you are aiming for is strong. This article details not only why the Ag industry is strong, and provides some statistics as to why it is strong. Next stop for me? Paying off my student debt with a career in the field I actually obtained an undergraduate degree in!
