Exhibition prints are ready for hanging, a big massive thank you to legends Kirsty Macafee and Colour Factory for sponsoring us.
Our show is on at Fitzroy Town Hall this Tuesday 6 September from 6pm - 7:30pm.
Week 7.
Public art.
For week 7 the students and I pasted up their selected images created over the last 6 weeks to the exterior wall of my studio in Vere St Collingwood. The wall is located in the same street as Collingwood College allowing the students to view their work and show family and friends when travelling to and from school.
Despite the terrible weather conditions all of the students showed exceptional commitment and enthusiasm during our session.
Please feel free drop by and check out their brilliant work.
Extra special thanks to Dulux for donating the vibrant blue paint for the wall.
More portraits created by the students over the last 7 weeks.
Week 5.
Vist to NGV international.
For week 5 the students and I visited NGV. We were lucky enough to witness the exploding of Steve Carrs watermelon, you can see the work here: https://vimeo.com/125964478
All images attached to this post were taken by the students at NGV.

Making a mini studio, colour and objects.
For week 4 the students learnt how to set up a mini lighting studio using a cardboard box, a lamp and fabric, we looked at artists Elad Lassry (image 1) and local artist Lydia Wegner (image 2) for inspiration.
Check in next week to see our images from this session.

Week 3.
Natural and urban landscapes.
For week 3 the students and I discussed representation through images of the natural and urban landscape with a focus on local artist Siri Hayes (image 1) and Rosemary Laing (image 2). We walked the streets of Collingwood capturing images of the students ideas around how they see the urban landscape they exist within.
Check in next week to see our images and progress.

Week 2.
Portraiture and selfie.
For our 2nd class today we discussed the selfie and portraiture with a focus on local Melbourne artists Salote Tawale and Clare Rae. Students are encourage to make a selfie over the next week thinking about how to use the camera and their body in unconventional ways that could describe their alter ego or personality.
We also watched an ABC documentary from the series Hello Stranger: The Darkest Spray Tan On The Gold Coast about Kirt Coleman a self proclaimed selfie super star. You can watch it here: http://iview.abc.net.au/programs/hello-stranger/LE1518H001S00
Image 1: Salote Tawale: The Princess and the Prince 2013: represents the Pacific diaspora of which she is a part. Its combination of disparate elements from European colonial archives, Pacific Island design and photographic self-portraiture, are brought together through collage and photomontage to reflect on the relationships that occur over time when cultures intertwine. As is implied by the title, the portraits address and play with notions of gender as well as social, political and religious models of colonialism and modernity. Through its hybrid form, ‘The princess and the prince’ embodies and advances the dialogue between photography and various other mediums characteristic of our current era.

First session today with these legends.
It was windy and bright hanging out on the CCP wall but we covered some good basics and after a quick photo shoot the students headed out to take photos of photos on and around Smith St.
The average Australian consumes over 1000 images per day.
Over the next 2 weeks the students are consciously looking for images everywhere they go, on the street, in the supermarket, online, on clothing, in books and magazines etc. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the images they find and discussing their new found levels of consciousness.
Next session is on Tuesday 26 July, we cover SLR camera settings, portraiture and the selfie with a focus on local artist Salote Tawale.
Week 1.
Photography is magic.
Lauren and the students discuss the magic of photography, inspired by images and texts from Photography is Magic by Charlotte Cotton http://aperture.org/shop/photography-is-magic-3227
