this scene is so funny to me. kirk incorrectly assuming that spock bullied others as much as he did as a child. spock's amused totally not there smile. spock being like haha silly captain, starting to walk away, then realizing kirk most have done all those things he just described. the look on spock's face when he realizes. and kirk seeing spock react like that and smiling like THIS. turning around and smiling to himself, parting his lips and breathing open-mouthed like the love is just too much to contain. closing his mouth and raising his chin to regain his composure before the feeling is gone, because it'd be weird to linger on it any further.

I love the “captain’s log” mechanism in Star Trek as a method for time skips and exposition.

I am, however, devastated that we never got an episode where any captain’s voiceover is strained and slow. very precise about the events they’re describing. While the screen itself is showing the most batshit insane events and making it clear that the captain is trying VERY HARD to keep everyone involved out of a court martial.

But like ... how have so many writers had the chance to help tell the most poignant love story in the universe, and not one of them has been like "let's just let them smooch. Even if aliens or spores made them do it"??

in the 60s it would be a scandal and in the 2020s they're too far gone trying to make spock as straight as possible. besides, the 2000s-onwards no longer have the leisurely pace and lighthearted modular stories that star trek shows used to.
