Fairytale AU: Dean as Peau d’Âne (Donkeyskin).

A king had a beautiful wife and a rich castle, including a marvelous donkey whose droppings were gold. One day his wife died, after making him promise not to marry except to a woman whose beauty and attributes equaled hers. The king grieved, but was, in time, persuaded to seek another wife. It became clear that the only woman who would fit the promise was his daughter.

As a condition to her consent, the princess made an impossible demand: the hide of her father’s marvelous donkey, which was the source of his kingdom’s wealth. Such was the king’s desire to marry her that he granted her wish.

Desperate, the princess had no other choice but flee into the forest, hiding her beauty under the ugliness of the donkeyskin― earning herself the nickname of Donkeyskin.

He shouldn’t be surprised that it ends up being a story. 

It’s more a fairy tale, even, the kind you read to kids to make them fall asleep faster, the kind you whisper to yourself when you’re eight and bored out of your mind because there is nothing to do in the motel room and Sammy is already asleep.

Or maybe he is surprised in a way because he already knows it.

It is a story he made for himself, his personal perfect ending: the one where he has never touched a gun in all of his life, the one where he gets to appreciate Jessica’s jokes, the one where he has a chance of being the groom at his brother’s wedding, the one where he is able to respond “I love you too” to his mom’s goodnight.

The one with no fire, no yellow eyes, no dead mother pinned on the ceiling.

The one where she doesn’t offer him a lifetime of peace, love, comfort and safety only to make him stop trying to wake up.

Maybe Dean should have know: those kinds of promises have never been free. In the end, there is no picket white fence, no pretty girlfriends, no homemade sandwiches.

In the end, there is only death and those who have learnt how to face her without fear.

How would Dean feel if he had a daughter and she had a baby with a demon? So basically Deans grandchild would be a cambion. I would always assume that he would be really conflicted on how to treat the baby. Despite it having his bloodline.

anon, i don’t know if we need a hypothetical scenario as specific as the one you suggested for that.

i’d like to remind you that dean already had a daughter. a non-human daughter. and he seemed prepared to give her a chance and listen to her until sam walked in and shot her dead in retaliation for amy (7x13).

he was also extremely protective of the shapeshifter baby in 6x02 - "it's not really a monster. i mean, it's still just a baby. it's not its fault its dad's a shifter.”.

and that’s just a couple of examples.

now if this is prompted by dean not trusting jack, he had every reason not to as jack is seemingly the world’s most powerful entity and was already mindcontrolling people from the womb to stay alive (consciously or not). and even after jack’s first accidental kill and tendency to go around attacking civilians, he still has not really attempted to execute him, which is more chances than any poor monster-of-the-week is usually afforded by either brother.

Just wanted to say thanks for not stopping but taking a break. I've been wanting to catch up but I'm participating in 2 other events and can't find time to catch up. But now I can! I'm excited to catch up :D
