Just reblogged a post from 2012 - so in 2026 I’m going to ask the question again….
How many Supernatural fans are STILL on Tumblr??
Reblog this once - let’s see how many of us are still here!
(no clothes ver below)
Darrow throwing down at the Gala | Golden Son by Pierce Brown

Out of curiosity, where did you guys read your first fanfiction ?
Ao3
Wattpad
Fanfiction.net
Deviant art
Livejournal
Tumblr
Quotev (wtf)
It was a Twitter threadfic (ok what the actual fuck)
Other
I don't read fanfic
Please participate in my research (also, if you say other, please put it in the tags/comments !)
Geocities, bitches.
WHAT I am shocked that AO3 isn't higher what the hell??
AO3 was founded in 2008.
It did not yet exist when many people first started reading fanfic.
I, for example, started reading fanfic online in the year 1996.
Geocities webrings!
Autocorrect knew *neither* of those words!
Piczo.
My SECOND fanfiction was on FFN but the first was on Piczo.
Forums
independent fandom-specific archives. probably a sailor moon romance.

It's been a looong time since I've done one of these... Thanks for tagging me, @zmediaoutlet!
last song: Dune OST - Dreams of Arrakis
last book: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. I really liked it, despite the suspend-your-disbelief premise. I found it oddly hopeful and comforting, which actually isn't what I usually look for in books, but for some reason this really worked for me.
last movie: I can't even remember, maybe Dune: Part 2 last spring? I haven't really been into movies lately.
last show: currently finishing a rewatch of Gilmore Girls. I was a teenager the last time I saw it, and wow, I'm seeing it in a completely different way now!
last thing I searched: beet spread recipes
favorite color: yellow
sweet/savory/spicy: savory
relationship status: married
looking forward to: the next time my husband babysits and I get to go out, wander aimlessly through my beautiful city and just forget about everything
current obsession: probably nothing; the closest thing would probably be watching figure skating
If you feel like doing it, I'm tagging you - @baronsamediswife, @vesperpharsalius, @thegorydamnreaper.
Shadows of Fear | Red Rising fanfic
Darrow just barely escaped Atlas and his Gorgons unscathed. Still, what almost happened to him is enough to bring back ugly memories. Even in the Waste of Ladon, the Jackal always lurks around.
(Set in Dark Age, starting after the end of Chapter 17: Heliopolis and weaving through the story roughly past Chapter 62: Unremarkable.)
Available on AO3.
Your top fave things about Darrow? 💖
Oh, so many things, so these are just off the top of my head:
1. His willingness to do what needs to be done, even if it's ugly and messed up, and his awareness of it being ugly and messed up. He doesn't delude himself into thinking everything he does is noble and great.
2. His compassion, even if it causes him trouble a lot of the time.
3. His love for his friends and family.
4. His faith in Virginia.
5. His incredible drive and power of will that just keep him moving forward and fighting no matter what. He just won't quit.
6. How badass of a fighter/warrior he is. The way he just mows through his enemies is... well, frankly, it's pretty hot. Or basically his competency in general is really hot.
7. His sense of duty and responsibility to his people, to his troops, to the Republic. How dedicated he is to fighting for them, even at great personal cost.
8. This is a small thing, but I love the "Are you done? Yeah, you're done." thing he does sometimes when someone around him is throwing a tantrum. (Especially since when he's throwing a bit of a tantrum about Lysander in Light Bringer and he gets asked "Are you done?", his reply is "Yeah, done talking." For some reason, I find that hilarious.)
9. cock.
10- tits
11- booty
12. Thighs 🥵
13. Face 😍
14. Those Helldiver hands
Now, could you give Virginia some love too, pls? 💖🤗
Again, off the top of my head:
Her schtick with the boots on the table, eating an apple and being obnoxious, getting everyone to underestimate them and then wiping the floor with them.
Her self-awareness.
How she knows she's smarter than almost everyone but never looks down on others because of it.
Her level-headedness, and how she always keeps her cool.
The way she talked Sevro down from trying to kill the Duke of Hands, convinced him and the Howlers to come back into the fold, and gave Sevro a dressing-down for leaving Darrow behind. It's one of my favorite scenes in the entire series.
Her relationship with the Telemanuses.
The way she tries so hard as Sovereign not to take/use too much power, even when she knows so many things would be much easier if she did.

Darrow's Compassion
It's so interesting going into Red Rising blind cause what I expected was your typical sci fi revenge revolution protagonist who deals in violence exclusively and marks the world through the sword. And while I got that in Darrow, the more important part of him, his true power beyond the gold enhancements and his skill, is his compassion. Darrow just... loves. So much is said throughout the series about Eo's compassion and emotional depth, how far she was willing to go to spark a revolution for her people, that I feel Darrow's capacity for compassion gets ignored at times. Darrow just constantly loves the people around him. He desperately wishes for a better world, where even the people who see him as subhuman can live alongside him. He's willing to forgive and forget even the most brutal of atrocities, as long as he believes there's still an ounce of goodness in your heart. He grows up in this cycle of violence, only to be thrown out into a world that's even more violent and cruel than the one he was born into, and the only thing he can think of is how best he can create a world where that violence has no more place. At his core, beyond all the violence and anger, Darrow is just... good. And in an age when most protagonists of these kinds of YA series are kinda grimdark fuck the world characters, I just so appreciate how much empathy Darrow has for everyone around him.
I feel like Darrow's line from Light Bringer, "Does no mercy go unpunished?", defines him perfectly. The fact that he even asks that, after so many years of war, really shows that at his core, he still refuses to see the world in the worst light.
I miss Ragnar, because Ragnar always had his head firm on his shoulders, not stuck up his own arse. He was the only person who showed care for Darrow in the same ways Darrow showed others. And obviously, Ragnar cared for others as well, he did not get stuck on the mission as much as Darrow does, I think.
Even through tumultous emotions, he took time to really care selflessly when he was able to. That was what made him the best leader for the Obsidians in many ways.
Darrow hasn't experienced this sort of friendship in years, aside from Screwface's attempt in Dark Age. That is heart-breaking as fuck.
RAGNAR WOULD HAVE NEVER ABANDONED DARROW ON MERCURY. RAGNAR WOULD HAVE NEVER HARMED DARROW BY CHOICE. Period.
As much as I love Darrow’s friendships with other people, what he had with Ragnar was absolutely unique, incomparable and irreplaceable. Ragnar did hold him accountable and would speak up (or even act) if he disagreed with Darrow, but more than anyone else, he always showed – with actions and words – how much he cared for Darrow, supported him, and wanted to help him. Not just help the Reaper accomplish his mission, but help Darrow as a person to live a better, more fulfilling life.
Even when they disagreed, it never seemed personal from Ragnar, there were no cruel barbed comments or attacks on who Darrow is as a person. It was always from a point of mutual respect, support, and underlying faith that Darrow is a good person who may just be a little overwhelmed or out of his depth at the moment, and thus not thinking very clearly and making the best decisions.
So yeah, I'm with you... I miss Ragnar so much.
The Minotaur in the Palace | Red Rising fanfic
Apollonius knows the Ash Lord betrayed him, sending him on what will probably end up being a suicide mission. But how can one resist the chance to meet face to face with the Reaper of Mars and get his full, undivided attention?
(Set in 747 PCE between Morning Star and Iron Gold, but contains spoilers for events mentioned in Iron Gold.)
Available on AO3.
Late Night Talks | Red Rising fanfic
On the Archimedes, it is late at night. Cassius and Darrow talk. Or, Cassius tries to talk and Darrow doesn't really listen. It’s… complicated.
(Set in Light Bringer somewhere between Chapter 35: Winds of Duty and Chapter 37: Cacophony.)
Available on AO3.
Remember the Dark Age prologue when Darrow randomly praised the enemy pilot who managed shift their ship so it didn't crash in nanoseconds?
After that he proceeded to go and rescue Orion, but it's so Darrow to take the time to like his very random enemies. I love him, you should too.
It's actually really interesting how often Darrow praises the skills of his enemies, especially in comparison with his own skills. There are so many instances of him thinking his opponent is faster/stronger/better at something than Darrow is. (Usually followed by Darrow besting them anyway, because them being better at one particular thing doesn't help them against the Reaper.)
I don't know where I'm going with this, but it's just something I noticed and sometimes think about. A nice show of Darrow not being at all insecure about his skills and having no trouble giving credit where credit is due, maybe? I love his quiet confidence.
Heyyyyyy Reap 👀 🥵
A little candid shot of the ArchImperator, as a Valentine’s treat 😉
