some of you weren’t around for the fan fiction dot net purge of 2002 (when they banned explicit content and mass-deleted thousands of fics) and the livejournal purge of 2007 (when they deleted hundreds of blogs, disproportionately targeting queer & kink content) and it shows
The irony of this new breed of self-righteous AI hunters on AO3 is that they're all just copy and pasting peoples fics into AI detectors, which are all operated by AI and therefore THEY are feeding people's work into the algorithm without their consent and in some cases no doubt circumventing the locks people put on to avoid getting scraped...
Don't copy and paste anyone's AO3 work into third party websites, you're not the good guys in this situation?

Fic:
Cali sat at the table, rubbing her temples in an effort to hold off the oncoming headache as her brothers argued with one another over her current ‘mission’. She knew this was what would happen by pushing back the inevitable of telling the other two what her and K had been up to.
“It’s been two years now, we still don’t have answers. We’re watching her lose herself, for what?!” Lux shouts angrily as he slams his fist down on the table.
“I-I’m with Lux on this one. I want to help Stitch out as much as possible and I’m always down to piss off the UNSC but, what are we actually doing?” Bird asks, nervously glancing between the two.
K casually and calmly remains in his chair never breaking eye contact with Lux, “As of right now, I’m wait-”
“Waiting for the green light-whatever the fuck that means,” Lux huffs with a roll of his eyes, “I’m tired of hearing the same thing over and over. We have enough information from Freelancer to end this. What is going on?”
“I can’t do this.” Cali mutters, slowly standing up.
Let me show them.
Cali lets out a sigh as she sits back down, keenly aware of everyone watching her. She takes a deep breath before meeting each one’s gaze, “K already knows, but, if anyone else finds out, I’ll know who to kill.”
“I’ll help hide your bodies.” K adds sternly.
“I’m concerned now, are you in trouble?” Bird queries as his concern and worry lace his tone and fill his chocolate eyes.
Cali shakes her head, “No…not anymore than usual. Just…just-just things at Freelancer are fucked. And, at this point I’m willing to get who I can out and let Freelancer fade into obscurity.”
“Stitch, how bad?”
She swallows the lump in her throat, “Long story short, I pissed off the Director, he killed me - I think, and now-”
“Now, I’m here and if you two fuck up all the work we’ve done, I’ll personally fry your brains.” The A.I threatens sweetly as she materializes in the middle of the table.
“Holy. Shit.” Lux breathes out.
“No fucking way.” Bird states in disbelief.
“Do you two idiots get it now? Do you finally get why we’ve been so secretive?” K asks, glancing between them.
Bird nods as he tries to poke the A.I.
“You should’ve said something sooner. I’ve got a cousin who can help.” Lux states as he smacks Bird on the back of the head.
“I have things in place for when we’re ready.”
“No. We needed to be ready two years ago. The three of us need to be gone before her ride takes off. There’s more and more leaving every day. We leave now, get everything set up and ready to go that way when she calls us, all we have to do is go get her.”
“How can your cousin help?”
“He has…connections and can help us. He offered last time I spoke to him. Less you know the better.”
K nods in acknowledgement, “Sounds good to me. We’ll all meet up once Stitch burns Freelancer down.”
“I’ll stay close. In case anything happens.” Bird suggests as he stands.
“It’s settled then, Lux and I will handle the ground. Bird will be close by if you need help. And you…you do what you do best, survive.” K states looking over at Cali with a stern but slightly worried look in his eyes.
“I’ll be fine. Like Chief, I’ve got dumb luck on my side.” Cali jokes more so to calm her own nerves.
All three groaned and rolled their eyes.
“Please don’t try to play Chief again. Last time you nearly lost an arm.” Lux reminds her.
Cali chuckles softly as she stands and her A.I disappears with a small wave, “I’ll be fine. Tex is there and she’s damn near indestructible. And, Bird will be close by, I’m sure I could sneak him on as staff if I truly needed.”
“I’d feel better if we all were together, but I get it. This is something you have to do.”
Cali nods, with a small, soft smile, “I know. I can handle this. I’ve gone through worse.”
“That doesn’t make it better.” K sighs deeply, pinching the bridge of his nose and closing his eyes for a few moments.
“It’ll work out. It always has with us. We’ll be a group again. I promise.”
You can’t promise that. The A.I warns softly.
“Alright, get over here. You’re not leaving without a hug.” Lux smirks as he holds his arms out.
Her shoulders drop as she reluctantly shuffles over, “You know I hate these.”
“Only because you’re a fun sized Spartan.” He chuckles, leaning down to hug her.
“Careful, I’m closer to your knees than you are.” She teases with a light laugh.
“Careful, I can just toss you over my shoulder and there’s nothing you can do to stop me.” he returns softly, leaning down to hug her, giving her a small squeeze, “Don’t forget you’re not alone in this.”
“I know.” She whispers, slowly pulling back and looking up at him.
“If you need more help-”
She rolls her eyes as she takes a few steps back, “I know. Call.”
“I really don’t like you being there alone. Even with Bird close. I haven’t been a fan of this since they chose you.”
“No one’s been a fan of this.” K reminds him sternly, “Now we can do something about it and get our lives back.”
“More like start living.” Lux states under his breath.
“Come on, before they start fighting over plans again.” Bird lightly nudges her as he walks by, calling over his shoulder, “I’ll be sure to keep in touch.”
“Lux, don’t start.” K growls.
Cali takes one look at both of them before scurrying after Bird, “They like that often?”
“Ever since you first said you were doing this.” He returns softly, keeping his gaze straight ahead as they walk.
“When I agreed to go? I didn’t have much choice.”
“I know. They know that. Lux just–Lux wishes it was someone else, anyone else. Hell, either one of us would gladly take your place if it meant you were safe and out of harm's way.”
“Why?”
“I know you think being short has given you some kind of advantage - and it does to a point- but, being all five foot four inches, also just makes you easier to target, especially as a Spartan. We’re not exactly liked or disliked by the universe, and I–all of us can’t stand the thought of losing you to anything for any reason. You’re our little sister, Spartan or not, we want the best for you.”
She looks up at him as he speaks. She’s never known Bird to be so…sentimental and worried. “But-what if what was best for me was to let me go?”
He stops, looking down at her, “What’s her name?”
“His name is Wash, Washington. He’s also a Freelancer, and no there’s no actual labels so I can’t really say he’s my boyfriend but…he’s–he does make me happy and makes being there a little better.”
“Does he feel the same?”
“I-I…I think so. Even if not, I’m okay with it just lasting as long as Freelancer does.”
“No. No, no. Not gonna happen. You two will stay together even if I have to kidnap both of you and take you somewhere else.”
She softly laughs, “Bird, I don’t think you need to go that drastic. We’ll be okay. Whatever happens.”
“I’ll kill him if he hurts you. I don’t even care if you break up with him, I’ll end him.” He warns trying to sound scary, only sounding like a kid pretending to be scary.
“Mhm, you’ll have to get in line behind Lux and K. and that’s if there’s even anything left.”
He snorts as they continue walking down the hall. “That’s true. Plus, I could comfort you and make them jealous that I got some good good Stitch cuddles.”
“You guys are the weirdest brothers.” she states with a laugh, lightly shaking her head.
“We love you. Now, go, I’ll catch up later.” He leans down, giving her a tight hug before giving her a little shove towards the ship that would take her back to Mother of Invention.
“I love you guys too. Be careful.” She whispers as she returns his hug before going up the ramp, stopping to take one last look at Bird and giving a small half-hearted wave and continuing to board the ship.
This isn’t going to be easy anymore. The A.I states with a hint of weariness in her tone.
fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didn’t grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like “bro what is this 😭.” why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.
“college is absolutely nothing like this” “why are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one game” “so tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!”
if you don’t like a fic, and if you can’t suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you don’t have to read it. you don’t have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you don’t have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. it’s not giving baby’s first fandom anymore, it’s giving entitled asshole and it isn’t as cute as you think it is.

Cali sat on Washington’s cot, his blanket over her lap as she massages her temples in an effort to banish the oncoming headache. She knew it was from not sleeping and stress, she was just struggling with time management and taking care of herself, among other things.
Should’ve gone to sleep when I suggested.
She lets out an annoyed sigh.
“Got a headache?” Wash asks as he turns in his chair at his desk to face her.
“A small one, yeah. Haven’t been sleeping well.” She admits softly as she meets his gaze.
“I can fix that.” He offers a soft smile as he stands up, grabbing the spare hairbrush from his drawer.
“Fix a stress or tension headache with a brush?” She questions with a little chuckle.
“Yes, smartass, with a brush. I’m taking that lazy braid out and redoing it for you as well. Scooch up.” He motions for her to move up.
She playfully rolls her eyes as she moves up, giving him enough room to sit behind her with his legs stretched out on either side.
“It’s not lazy, just loose.” she giggles softly as she pulls the hair tie free.
“Please,” he scoffs lightly, gently undoing the braid and combing his fingers through her hair, “I used to do my sisters’ hair all the time. I know a half-assed braid when I see one.”
She chuckles lightly, “Okay, half-assed, yes. But I did my best this morning while half awake with a headache. And it was covered by my helmet.”
“Mhm. If you say so.”
“So mean to me.” She playfully pouts.
He gently guides her head back and presses a kiss to her forehead, “If I’m so mean, why do you keep coming back?”
She thought about it for a second, desperately trying to fight the smirk as she spoke, “The sex. Definitely the sex.”
He lightly rolls his eyes with a small hint of a smile, “Now it’ll be for the massages and sex.”
“Can’t wait.” She giggles, looking straight ahead and closing her eyes as he runs the brush through her hair.
Wash brushes her hair till he’s confident all the tangles are gone before he starts gently but firmly massaging her scalp, starting at her forehead and working his way back and around.
She lets out a barely audible moan, relaxing completely under his touch. She couldn’t remember the last time someone played with her hair.
He slowly guides her head forward as he massages the back of her head and neck, faltering slightly when he brushes up against her implant scar.
Her eyes quickly opened, breath catching, as she quickly tried to come up with an excuse for it.
Don’t ask me for help. I got nothing!
He parted her hair, draping each half over her shoulders, lightly touching the scar again, “When did—“ he cleared his throat, “Did this happen when you fell…?”
She softly shakes her head, unable to make herself speak. The words were there; she just couldn't get them out.
“So before? And I never noticed till now? Even with—”
“Wash—“
He lightly places a kiss to the scar before placing her hair back over it and going back to massaging her scalp and occasionally combing his fingers through her hair to help with tangles.
Her eyes fluttered shut as relaxation flooded over her and any attempt at words was lost. All she could think about was how good this felt, how relaxed she was, and how tired she was becoming.
She could feel his fingers moving through her hair. Barely registering when he switched back to the brush and began braiding her hair.
“From now on, don’t braid your own hair. Come to me.”
“My braid really offended you?”
“No, but I can just hear my sisters throwing a fit for letting that happen and doing nothing.” He chuckles.
“Fine. When I want my hair braided I’ll let you do it.”
“Thank you.” He returns softly, letting her braid rest down the middle of her back and pressing a kiss to her exposed neck before wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close against him.
A smile graces her face as she places her hands on his arms and leans into him, “Almost anything for you.”
“Almost? Why almost?”
“I do think there should be a limit of some sort. You’ve already jumped into a pit for me, not sure how I could top that if it means massages and free braids.”
“I’m sure we could work out some kind of barter system.”
She laughs as she rests her head against his shoulder, “You braid my hair in exchange for what, cuddles, sex?”
“Pretty much.” He laughs, giving her a small squeeze.
“Mmmm, I’ll think about it.” she teases with a small laugh.
“I can also sweeten the deal,” he whispers lowly in her ear, slowly sliding his right hand down her body to her thigh, giving it a slight squeeze.
She bites back the groan in her throat, “Don’t make a promise you can’t keep.”
“Have I let you down yet?” He nips at the base of her neck.
“..no.” She breathes out, leaning her head to the side to give him more access as she reaches back, tangling her fingers in his hair.
“Give me some credit then.” He gently bites her neck, softly sucking and licking the skin eliciting a sultry moan and tug on his hair.
She starts to shift her body to face him more as he kisses the hickey he left, trailing wet kisses up her neck and along her jaw when a quick rap on the door popped the bubble they’d been in.
“Please be clothed, I don’t need to be scared like that again.” North teases as he walks in, shielding his eyes.
Wash lets out an annoyed groan, placing her braid over the fresh hickey, “No one’s naked.”
North cautiously peeks through his fingers before lowering his hand and closing the door, “Thank god. I’d hate to have Wash sex dreams.”
“More like nightmares,” Cali chimes in with a laugh as she gently squeezes his hand.
“I hate both of you.” Wash huffs.
“Love you too, bud,” North chuckles as he walks to his cot and sits down. “What’re you two doing other than hiding from everyone else.”
“I have a small headache and an offensive braid.” Cali answers with a smile, lightly touching the braid.
“Oh and I ruined the headache part. My bad. I can leave.” he jests with a smirk.
“Already ruined it,” Wash grumbles.
Cali lightly smacks his arm, “He’ll live. Why are you hiding?”
“Oh, South pissed Carolina off again and I just..can’t do it right now. I love my sister, but she's a lot.” North sighs. “It’s not hard to piss either of them off. South just has a shorter fuse. I’m trying not to let her bullshit get to me-create some kind of boundary or something. I can’t keep picking up after her.”
“But you’ll continue to do so.” Cali returns softly.
“Yeah, I know.” North lets out a deep sigh as he lays down, “One day.”
Cali starts to say something but stops herself, looking over her shoulder at Washington before lightly touching the now overly sensitive spot on her neck.
Wash offers a sheepish smile, whispering, “Sorry.”
“When I get a mirror.”
He chuckles softly as he pulls her down with him, pulling the blanket up over their heads and giving her a matching hickey on the other side.
yall ever start writing a fic in a certain mood and the next day youre not in that certain mood anymore so now you gotta wait until youre in that mood again so you can continue writing the fic ??
